Flynn? - Chapter 4

Thursday went by in a blur. It's Friday and I'm sitting in Biology, staring dreamily out the window at the football field. Shirtless guys without shirts are jogging on the field, sweat running down their shirtless bodies, in shirtless perfection. Oh, did I mention, they're not wearing shirts?

"EMILY!" Miss Grundy shouted with her shrill, annoying voice. Jumping out of the daydream I was in before I was so rudely interrupted, Miss Grundy continued, "this is a Biology class, not a class designated to creating fantasies about a relationship that will never happen." I looked up at her wrinkly, 64-year-old face and thought, "Well, I was studying a sort of Biology, Human Anatomy."

Next thing I knew, the whole class was snickering while Miss Grundy had a horrified expression on her face. In confusion, I asked the girl next to me why Miss Grundy looks like she saw a ghost. What I found out was unexpected, my whole face dropped and my eyes widened. I said that out loud. In the corner of my wide eyes, I saw Miss Grundy walking to her desk and she wrote something in a small book.

She tore out the piece of paper and walked towards me. "Not even one week and you're already sitting detention" she said with a disappointed tone in her voice. I looked at her with disbelief and angrily folded up the detention slip. Saturday is going to be so fun; note my sarcasm.

The rest of the day went by in a blur as I mentally prepared myself for what was to come later today. My thoughts flashed back to the night of the phone call.

***

"Hello?" the voice said. I didn't reply and the voice asked, "Are you there?". My voice wavering, I asked, "Flynn?" "Yes..." the voice, whom I now know is Flynn's, said. "Who is this?" he asked with confusion lining his tone. "It's Emily. I found a note attached to my bag with this number and your name written on it." I told him. "Oh, Emily." he said with recognition in his voice.

Suddenly, a loud voice boomed in the distance from his side of the call. "Meet me at the McDonald's closest to your school at 4 on Friday evening." he said in a hurried whisper. After that, all I heard was heavy, distressed breathing as the line went dead.

My mind flooded with questions and I knew that the only way I would obtain answers to these questions was if I went to go meet him on Friday evening.

***

I snapped out of my daydream when I realized that I was facing the place where I could finally get answers to the questions that has been haunting my thoughts ever since. I nervously approached the door to go into the inside of the McDonald's. As I got inside, i awkwardly stood there, not knowing where to wait for Flynn.

'I might as well order something to eat while I wait,' I thought as I went to stand in the line. When I finally got my order, I took a seat at the booth in the corner facing the entrance. Even though I didn't know what he looked like, I still wanted to be wary of who he could be. I started eating my burger and fries nervously, while also drinking my milkshake as I waited nervously for him to arrive.

Next thing I knew, a guy came to sit across from me at the booth I am sitting at. I looked at him in confusion and he finally introduced himself. "I'm Flynn," he said as he held out a hand for me to shake, "I hope you are Emily?" he said as I stared at his hand. I nodded my head, trying to chew the piece of burger in my mouth. I swallowed it and asked him, "Why did you give me the note?" "Well," he said nervously, "I know who and where your father is."

Silence filled the air as I started to become furious that he would say something like that even though I know my father is dead. My mother was the one who decided to abandon me at 2 years-old. I angrily stood up while slamming my fist on the table. "How can you say something like that and expect me to believe you?!" I screamed at him. I stormed out of there, earning a few confused glances on the way, leaving my half-eaten food on the table.

Tears started welling in my eyes as I started running home. Halfway there, the weather wanted to mimic my emotions and it started pouring down onto me. I tried to find cover but luck wasn't on my side today. A car pulled up next to me as I was walking further down the road, shivering in my soaking wet clothes. "Hey! Get in!" the voice said as I looked at the person who's voice it was.

I stood still in surprise that Liam was motioning for me to get into his car, even though I was bound to ruin the interior, and because of that, I declined by shaking my head. "Please?" he pleaded at me as I finally gave in and approached his car and got in. "What were you doing out here in the rain?" he asked. "Couldn't get a ride home" I said as I shrugged. I started shivering again and Liam saw this. He reached to the backseat and gave me his hoodie to wear over my clothes.

I gratefully accepted it and quickly put it on before I froze to death. "So, where do you live, so that I can take you home?" He started driving in the direction of where I live after I gave him my address. "So, you live with the Montgomery Twins?" he suddenly asked me. "Um, yeah... wait, how do you know them?" I asked him in confusion. "I helped to coach Dean's soccer team and Thomas is the smartest Sophomore of this year." he said as he lightly laughed.

"Well, I didn't know that they were that famous to be known by the hottest boy in school." I replied. "You think I'm hot?" he asked with a slight smirk adorning his face. My face reddened as I realized what I said. "I'm so, so sorry, that wasn't meant to come out..." "It's okay, really." he said assuring me as he started laughing. I soon joined him as we pulled up at the driveway of my house.

"Thank you for the ride" I said as I got out of his car. "Anytime" he replied, flashing me a smile. He pulled out of the driveway as I went inside with a wide smile on my face.
