Another Restart

"....."

"Tell me"

"When the sun rises and the stars fade away, will you still be there waiting for me just like how you always did?"

"I should have known…"

"That you're a liar"

"A bastard"

"A promise breaker"

"I shouldn't have trusted you"

"I shouldn't have let you go"

"That way… I wouldn't have lost you, right?"

City of Death, District 7, Territory of the Black Serpents.

Whoosh!

The harsh wind whistled across the streets as it welcomed the night, whilst kindly warning its citizens to be careful.

Under the light of the sacred moon where it bores as a witness to the ongoing cruelty, a group of people donned in all-black attires with full masks on was seen scattered across the dark streets.

What a familiar view...

A hunt had just begun.

It was too bad that unknown to those busy men, down the streets and among the numerous narrow alleys was a figure who had perfectly blended itself into the darkness.

"Arghhh..."

The figure gritted her teeth as she pressed a hand onto the bleeding wound on her right stomach, trying to stop blood from flowing out.

Her other arm stayed limp on her side as thick red liquid trickled out of the horizontal long tear on her upper arm and down to her fingers before it reached the ground, creating a small blood pool that exudes a horrid metallic smell.

The long black coat covering her whole figure was drenched in both sweat and blood and on her left, a mask identical to the ones worn by those men was thrown aside like trash.

[The night was cold and the wind was cruel. Like a dying lamp, the light in her eyes flickered as blood gushed out of her wounds like streams of water from a broken pipe. The poor young lady-]

"CAN YOU PLEASE SHUT THE F*CK UP?!!"

Pulling her pale dry lips into a scowl, the woman growled as she cast a menacing look at the air in front of her.

It was fortunate that no one was there to watch this scene or else they would definitely take her as a young woman who had lost her mind from the excessive pain and blood loss.

After all, in this dark and narrow corner of the alleyway, there merely existed the woman and no one else.

Unfortunately, that other 'entity' does exist and even after all that had happened, he still had the gall to cheekily tease her.

[Wow, wow, wow. Aren't you afraid of people hearing us?]

"Ah, so you still remember we have people chasing after our lives huh?"

The heavily injured woman gnashed her teeth as she spat out, her eyes glaring daggers.

[Well, you're absolutely wrong cause who they're chasing was you, not 'us'.]

"Hah..."

She took a long deep breath, ignoring the man who was practically itching for a fight. If that 'man' was a true person, not just some annoying noise clamoring garbage in her mind, she would have punched the light out of him.

She closed her eyes, not wanting to argue with that man when the voice continued in a solemn manner.

[Xi, you don't have to be so serious. Life... is nothing but a game. Close your eyes and everything will start anew.]

A smile unknowingly graced upon her cracked lips which were now devoid of blood. Rather than the clown-like version of him, she liked this serious and caring one better.

"I know."

She softly spoke under her breath.

"As long as I don't take things seriously, nothing will ever hurt me, am I right?"

[Mmm]

The voice sounded like a satisfied child, soothing the pain of her wounds in a peculiar way.

Was it because she's leaving soon?

Strangely, her heart was calm despite the horrendous state her body was in.

The night was cold and eerie, just like any other night in the city.

The City of Death, just like its name, was a lawless place where death was nothing but a normal occurrence.

In this city where power and evil rule, mindless kindness and naivety will only lead you to death. Little sheeps should know their place and stay within the jaws of the wolves. That's where they should be in the first place after all.

The young lady had her back leaned against the walls as she tried to support her weak body. Power had slipped off her body and she knew her soul would soon follow suit.

'So this is the end, huh.'

She let out a tired sigh, her sight slowly blurring to the point of nothingness.

This was the third time she had transmigrated into a body that belonged to the City of Death. In this lifetime, she was an orphan with the codename 'Lisa', raised and trained only for one sole purpose and that was to be a cold-blooded weapon for the Black Serpent.

As one of the leading organizations in the city, Black Serpent was the greatest lair of assassins where it houses the most and the best individuals in the field.

Lisa was one of the aces of the Black Serpents and when Xi took over, all of Lisa's responsibility was naturally transferred to her. However, as an honest citizen in most of her lives, how could she be able to handle such a great burden? She didn't want her identity to be found out and neither did she want to live off as Lisa the cold-blooded assassin.

And thus, she hastily left and miserably failed.

Now branded as a traitor and wanted by the very organization who had raised her, she could only hide in a dark corner as she desperately grasped onto the last moments of her life.

'Nevermind.'

Xi bitterly consoled herself.

Death is just a number anyway. Why the need to fear when she could always start anew somewhere else? After all, for a frequent transmigrator like her, death just meant a beginning to another life.

It's just that..... To live a blissful life seems to be nothing but wishful thinking that was too far-fetched for someone like her.

Whoosh!

The wind blew her hair, inviting her loose strands to dance in disarray by its rhythm. And following the strong gust of chilling wind was a voice of unknown origins.

"Angeline... I finally found you.."

Just like the whispers of a devil, those cold and unfeeling words entered her ears, sending tremors all over her body and shocking her to the bone.

She was just about to force her eyes to open when a cold metallic item was pointed at her head as it made contact with her skin and-

"Banggg!!!"

All she could see was black.

***

"Hah..Hah...Hah..."

In a spacious dark room, a little girl was seen lying on a queen-sized bed. Her small body was wrapped with a thick fluffy blanket like a cocoon, only leaving her small pale face that was white like a sheet to face the cold alone.

Cold sweat dotted her forehead as she opened her mouth wide to gasp for air. A very bad dream must have graced upon her. The girl kept on struggling, struggling to take a breath of fresh air when her eyes suddenly struck open.

Under the weak light of the moon, a pair of silver-gray eyes filled with flickering lights like stars shone against the dark, looking both lively and yet sometimes, lifeless.

Her life had once again, RESTARTED.
