Regret that will never trully be forgotten

Everyone started running as they saw the huge figure turn into something otherwordly. The temple was filled with cries of help and people running for their lives. Everyone ran towards the entrance, barely anyone made it through, as the crowd made it harder for a single person to squeeze through. Some even were trampled by the countless people scurrying to the gate. The atmosphere was so hectic, it was a total shift from how everyone was before.

The statue started to move, snatching people, running in its way, it crushed their bodies and swallowed the remaining flesh and bone that laid stiff in its clutch.

"Where's Alek?" Orchid asks Racquel

"I think he's outside, that's where we last saw him right?"

"Yeah, thank god." He was relieved that Alek was outside, away from the whole crisis, now his only priority was to get Racqeul to safety and out of harm's way.

The fact that his dad was with the rest of his family made it a lot easier on him, he didn't have to think about his mom and sister just yet, as they were in good hands. Playing everything in his mind made it easier for him to plan out his next few moves. He knew that racing into the crowd would only get them trapped, they wouldn't even be able to escape through the gate and most likely would end up as that things next meal.

He pulled Racquel into one of the rooms that was far from the entrance, hiding there was their best choice of action, it was the only way he knew that they would be safe, it would buy them some time to plan out their escape. He opens the door, to find that several people having the same idea he did. There were at least 20 people within the large room, all of them looked dazed, some even were crying while others consoling them.

They both sat together, closer to the door trying to keep some space between the others and them. He wanted to keep space to get a breather, this was for Racquel sake, he didn't want to elevate her anxiety any further by sitting close to anyone who was breaking down. She didn't need that right now.

The screaming from the other side started to get louder and it suddenly turned into something out of a horror movie, it was as though there was a huge slaughtering going on. The sounds got so horrid that Racquel covered her ears trying to keep the sound out. It then suddenly got quiet, all the sound from the outside suddenly became pin-drop silent. Not even a single person was screaming. Orchid has hope that maybe they all escaped, or help came.

Everyone in the room looked to the door, all having hope that the situation got better, maybe the statue stopped and everyone was alright.

Just as some of them got up to check what was happening on the outside the door creaked open. a smiling face appeared, smiling at everyone. A sudden burst of screams filled the room. Her hands flew in grabbing some, crushing them to blood and bones. Orchid pulled the paralysed Racquel rushing out of the room right through the entrance, where her hands popped out. The demonic statue noticed their attempt to run and tried to grab them.

"Racquel, use it now." she snapped out, pulling out her sword from the back of her dress. She cut through the fabric, making the suit a lot shorter allowing her legs room to move.

"Queen Neffiti, bring her down..."

"Sand storm..." sand rushed through shielding the both of them from the attack from the statue.

"What the hell is happening Orchid, what the hell is that thing?" she asks him

"I don't know but before it gets through that wall, let's go, we need to get out of here."

"We can't just leave them, we need to help them Orchid, they're going to die..."

"Racquel we can't deal with that thing ourselves, we need help, if we go back in we are going to die." Racquel was stunned not knowing what else to say, she knew that what he said made sense, they would not be able to put up a fight with whatever that was. It would only be a means to an end.

Orchid pulled on her sleeve.

"Let's go Racquel we can get someone outside to help us!" as he stepped back he felt something. He looked to the ground to find that he had stepped on a hand of a dead corpse, as his eyes shift, he found thousands of people lying dead surrounded by a huge pool of blood covering the ground.

He turned to stone looking at the sight, the people that lay there were people he knew. The people that he would usually say hi to, it was horrifying to see them in such a manner.

Racquel noticed the state he was in, she took charge realising the dreadful state he was in, she needed to help bring him out of this place, she grabbed his hand and rushed towards the gate.

"Orchid close your eyes, don't look at them." he wanted to do as she said, it was just too painful but nothing could get him to do so, as he walked by each body, he recognised each and every one of them, they were either people that he met through his dad or people that ran shops throughout the city.

A thought suddenly popped in,

'Where are my parents? Are they okay?'

"Racquel I need to find my parents, I didn't think things would be this bad..." he pulled back

"Orchid, your dad is with them, I know they will be fine, he's your dad you know him better than I do, who else would be more capable than him to take care of your mom and sister?"

As the two continued talking the wall made out of the sand right behind them was shattered and the being behind it stood tall targeting its prey. Several arms shot out of its body moving towards the both of them.

Just as the giant statue was about to hold on to Orchid and Racquel, his mother and father pushed them aside, saving them from getting crushed in its hands. The statue looked at them struggling in its grasp before smiling and crushing them, blood dripped from its hands as their bodies snapped into two and just as the life disappeared from their eyes the statue swallowed the couple whole.

Orchid witnessed the whole ordeal and couldn't make a sound as the sight shocked his system. Just before his eyes, his parents had died in a way that was unimaginably gruesome.

"Mom?" Orchid muttered.

"Dad?"

"Orchid?" his sister asks before noticing the huge statue behind her.

"Where's mom" she sobbed.

He ran towards her.

'No, no not her too...MOVE!'

His sister looked behind, her eyes widened, but before she could make a sound she got trampled on by a golden foot. The foot destroyed the girl's body and all that remained below it was a pool of blood.

Orchid could no longer stay conscious past that point and what took over was just as or even more frightening as the rampaging statue.
