He Lanjin did not hear much about what the people inside the house were saying, but what she heard was very intriguing. They said that blood flowed like a river during that year in Jiang City. To avoid trouble, they ran deep into the mountains and used their money to secure themselves official positions.
"Could this be the Qiao family?" He Lanjin thought to herself. Alas, she did not hear much about the conversation. She, however, could not get their words and their faces out of her mind.
He Lanjin wanted to know more, but those people stopped speaking and disappeared into their rooms. This was probably due to the sensitive nature of the topic of their conversation.
He Lanjin stood alone, her back against the wall. She looked at the earthquake ruins illuminated by the bright moon. Not far from where she was were people sleeping by the roadside; the earthquake had rendered them homeless.
He Lanjin's phone rang, disturbing her reverie. She walked to a place where there was better mobile phone signal.
Looking at the caller ID warmed He Lanjin's heart. She smiled as she answered the call. "It's very late, Aunt. Why are you still awake?"
Shen Biqiong's concerned voice came from the other end. "What's this I hear that you went to the earthquake zone? Why did you run towards danger? Where exactly are you? I'll ask your brother to pick you up first thing in the morning."
"The earthquake has passed; there's no danger anymore, Aunt," He Lanjin said. "Besides, my legs are long and I can run fast. How could I be in danger?"
Tang Zhilin informed Shen Biqiong that He Lanjin had gone to the disaster area. The old man almost had a stroke hearing about what happened.
He Lanjin ended the call after reassuring her aunt that everything was under control. The phone call put her in an extremely happy mood. She headed back to her room.
On her way, He Lanjin saw a motorcycle speeding past her. She did not give any thought to it at first, but after a few seconds, she saw the motorcycle turning back.
"Is this person crazy? " The motorbike rider was going back and forth in front of her. He Lanjin was starting to get dizzy.
Nan Feng rode his motorcycle back and forth, circling He Lanjin.
"Young Madam, are my riding skills putting you in a bad mood?" Nan Feng thought to himself.
The motorcycle was going very fast. It had circled her more than 30 times, but He Lanjin still could not tell who the rider was. Nan Feng, for his part, did not really mean to trouble He Lanjin. He only wanted to make sure that no other man would go near his young master's bride.
The rider made He Lanjin very curious; she decided to find out what was going on.
Nan Feng noticed that He Lanjin was walking towards him. He got so scared that he quickly stopped the motorcycle and ran behind a fallen tree. He took out a cigarette and put it in his mouth, pretending that he was not the mysterious rider.
He Lanjin stared at the particularly flashy motorcycle. She did not see it clearly at first, but when she got closer, she saw that this motorcycle could easily be worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.
Nan Feng leaned against the tree to conceal himself. Suddenly he felt someone grabbing his arm...
"What are you doing?" Nan Feng cried as He Lanjin forcefully dragged him out of hiding.
Nan Feng hurriedly covered his face, turned around, and ran into the darkness, but He Lanjin quickly grabbed him by the belt. Nan Feng was frightened and would not stop struggling until He Lanjin kicked him on the buttocks.
Was this retribution?
Half an hour ago, Nan Feng kicked a woman. This time, He Lanjin kicked him.
"Let go, let go." Nan Feng vowed to never give himself up. He crawled on the ground into the darkness, knowing that with his life was on the line. But He Lanjin was quick; she grabbed his feet and dragged him out.
What was Nan Feng to do? Qiao Hanye would skin him alive if the master learned that he was bothering He Lanjin.
"What do you want?" He Lanjin asked. "You've been circling me with your flashy motorcycle. Now you have my full attention. Come, let me see what you look like." Nan Feng cowered, covering his face so she would not see.
Nan Feng became anxious; what would the young master do to him if the young madam ratted him out?
"No, let go of me." Nan Feng was so scared that he wanted to pee. Damn it, he should not have drunk all that water.
He Lanjin succeeded in fully dragging Nan Feng out. She pressed him down in front of the motorcycle and looked down at him.
"Don't look at me," Nan Feng said as he turned his face away. His ears were red and he felt very uncomfortable. He wanted to run away, but He Lanjin was pressing heavily on him.
