"The flowers are quite beautiful," Alexander said as he saw the lilies of the valley in her hands. He casually assumed they were a gift from a classmate to Purple Summers.
Purple took the white rose from his hands and lowered her head as she got into the car.
Perhaps it was a coincidence. She wasn't sure, but once she started associating them that way, the bouquet she held felt like a hot potato, uncomfortable in her grasp.
Alexander said, "Mom made a table full of dishes you love and even bought a cake to celebrate for you. Next year, how about we move to Kingsley? After you graduate from the Judicial Training Institute, we can move back to Clearwater."
"I would miss seeing Zara and Jane McCain," Purple said, somewhat reluctant to leave her friends behind.
Alexander tapped her forehead, "Silly little pig, they will be going to university too, and by that time, they might not even be in Clearwater!"
"Oh, right." Purple was slow on the uptake.
