“Well, I was hoping with Pad there, I can tell them.”
Pad coughed and swallowed the water he drank. “When were you going to ask me? I have to get approval from my supervisor since I just transferred?”
“I’m telling you now!” Wayne said, his voice rose. “Do you think it’s a bad idea?”
“I just don’t know if I can get leave.”
“Okay, okay,” mumbled Wayne. “Why don’t you check and put in for it if you can get off. I didn’t mean to yell. I have always wanted someone to take home to the parents for Thanksgiving, and I wanted to take you.”
“Aww, babe. I want to go. I just need permission, plus money. So let’s look at the flight, all right?”
Wayne nodded, didn’t say anything else as Jack got up, after eating the eggs and bacon. “Thanks. Good breakfast. I’m going to shower,” said Jack.
Jack grabbed his empty plate and put it in the sink, leaving Wayne and Pad alone.
“I didn’t mean to spring it on you like that. I was going to ask you.”
