I promise

Eva snorts as she rolled her eyes. She glared at the maids and they run out of the throne room followed by the limping guards who as much as they were hurt, didn't want to be part of whatever was happening or was about to happen..

The last time, these two battled, several lives were rendered useless.

Shirmona calmly stands sweeping her long garment which was curled on her throne, down to cover her flawless legs.

Looking at Shirmona you wouldn't believe she was a mother not to mention a grandmother as well.

She looked so young and fresh looking, it was hard to tell who was the youngest between she and Eva

There were ten steps leading up to the throne. Shirmona didn't wait for Eva to step up, instead she leaped down the steps, landing gracefully on her knees and one palm placed to the floor.

The other was outstretched and with a dangerous glint in her eyes, she muttered something and before Eva could realize what was happening, the sword in her hand flew towards the queen's hand and she quickly closed her hand around it while standing up.

"I'm in no mood to play one of your childish games this evening Evy dear" Said Shirmona throwing the sword to a far corner and waving her hand as if waving off a pesky fly. "So pick up your toy and leave my sight now that you're still in one piece"

Shirmona's eyes were closed as she talked but it flew open when she felt a sharp blade close to her exposed stomach.

She smiled a small smile.

Eva had one of her daggers close to her navel and she looked at Shirmona with spite in her eyes.

Shirmona was barely moved and just stared at her.

"Stay away from me...and my mother" She whispered dangerously.

Shirmona pretended to be surprised while gasping.

"Evy... she's my daughter...how can you possibly expect me to stay away from her huh?"

"Your daughter???" Eva pushed the dagger forward so that it pierced her stomach harder but not hard enough to draw blood. "You've attempted to take her life several times. Now you tell me what type of mother would do such a thing"

Despite the pain, Shirmona smirked evilly.

"I don't know what you're talking about, I love my daughter as much as I love you"

Eva calmly shook her head.

She smiled back at Shirmona. A sad mocking smile.

"You and I know the one person you care about...and that's you"

Suddenly and very swiftly, Shirmona grabbed the dagger and threw it aside, then she lifted Eva into the air, above her head and threw her down to the floor like she was a light object.

Eva countered her attack, cartwheeling in the air and landing gracefully on her feet.

"Sweetie if I don't care about you do you think you'd still be alive after attempting to stab me with a dagger" The queen said.

Eva growled in anger and frustration.

The queen starts climbing the steps back to her throne, not even glancing backwards once to check if Eva would try to attack her.

"Now....since you're here..I've actually been feeling lonely and I need someone to talk to" Shirmona made herself comfortable on her throne.

Eva snorted again and starts leaving.

"Talk to your throne then....you seem to enjoy sitting there a lot"

Suddenly her legs start moving on their own and they carried her off to face Shirmona and stayed still so that Eva couldn't move her legs.

She glared at her grandmother.

She grunted as she forced her legs to move but they wouldn't bulge. Suddenly, she fell to the floor.

She stared wide eyed at Shirmona who was tapping her long nails on the arm of her throne.

"You're lucky I paralyzed just your legs" Eva shuddered knowing now she was defenseless against her. "Now be a good granddaughter that you are and tell me what happened at school today".

Eva sighed as she made her way into her mother's room.

It was actually the smallest room in the house.

Yeah...Shirmona treated her daughter like trash....

Tears formed at the rims of her eyes as she saw how pale her mother looked despite the smile she forced on her weary face.

You would think she was Shirmona's mother and not the other way round.

"Evy .." She said when Eva pulled her close to her chest and hugged her tight.

"Does she know about your new school" Joann asked pulling away to look at Eva while wiping the tears that were falling down her daughter's cheeks.

Eva shakes her head.

"She still thinks I'm attending witch Prime academy" Then Eva squeezed her face. "But mother...why that school..... I'm the only witch there and everyone is treating me like I have something against them...I know you have your reasons but..why?"

Joann placed her cold palm against Eva's cheek.

"I know it's going to be hard settling in but just know that I mean well for you".

Eva pouted. "Everyone hates me"

She smiled weakly.

"That Elve who hugged you earlier meant otherwise"

"Okay...not everyone but you know what I mean mum..no matter how hard I try to prove that I'm not a threat, they would still hate me because I'm related to Shirmona"

Joann closed her eyes and sighed.

"Eva I love you" She suddenly said "And I don't want you to end up like me"

Eva held her mother's hands in hers and she looked into the dim eyes that had died many years ago.

"Then let me kill her"

"You can't" Joann said with a weak smile.

Eva pouted.

"You took my broom, my spell book and my wand...of course I can't. All I'm left with is my stupid weak powers"

"Believe me Eva, even if you combine them all together and form a horde of witches like you, you would only be going on a suicide mission....I've tried more than just casting spells and trying to kill her but nothing really worked...I tried finding her weakness but when I did, it was too late for me"

"Shirmona has a weakness???" Eva gasped and Joann covered her mouth with her hand and used the other to place in on her lips.

"The walls have ears Eva. She can be eavesdropping on us right now..but I want to make this clear to you. I won't tell you her weakness but I will tell you to be the best at school. They train young Latimums like you into brave and independent warriors...I want you to learn every fighting skill and ability you could possibly learn...no slacking Evy and please don't get into trouble there"

Eva just looked at her mother.

She wanted her to learn martial art?

What good will that do..

She just rolled her eyes.

"Yes mum. Sure. Whatever. Can I have my things now. I'm going back to school tomorrow and I don't think I'll be leaving the school premises any more"

"Evy just promise me one thing"

Eva didn't answer her immediately.

Her mother was sounding strange as if...

"Mother" She held Joann. "Are you..dying"

Joann just smiled. "Of course not dear. I'll never leave you. I'll always be here" Then she placed her hand on Eva's chest where her heart was pounding. "with you"

Eva didn't understand what she meant but she frowned a bit....

"Promise me ...that when you rule over the witch kingdom, you'd be nothing like your grandmother"

"Mum how can you even say something like that. You know I can never be like her"

"I'm serious Eva. You and I know the reason you throw tantrums and get into trouble is because you possess alot of her traits and genes"

Eva suddenly felt scared as she remembered the time she lost control of her powers ....she almost wiped half the entire witch kingdom..she killed alot of people...

She lowered her gaze but Joann drew her head up so that they were facing each other.

"Promise me.. please"

Eva nods, almost choking on her tears.

"I promise"
