Agape

Agape — the highest form of love. Selfless, sacrificial and unconditional love; persists no matter the circumstance.

As the sun rose on Saturday morning, a heavy sense of foreboding settled over me like a suffocating blanket. Today was the day—the day Dr. Avery would marry Dr. Torres. The realization struck me with a force that knocked the breath from my lungs, leaving me gasping for air as tears welled in my eyes.

I lay in bed, cocooned in the darkness of my room, unable to face the harsh light of reality outside. Every beat of my heart echoed the pain of a love lost, a dream shattered before it had a chance to bloom. The weight of his impending wedding pressed down on me like a crushing weight, threatening to suffocate me with its unbearable heaviness.

Chelle and Joy were by my side, offering words of comfort and solace. The raw ache of my unrequited love laid bare for all to see.

Avery's POV

It was the morning of my wedding. As Dr. Torres made her way up the aisle, arm-in-arm with her father, resplendent in white, I couldn't help but cast my mind back to the first time I saw her. She was beautiful, there was no denying that, but her beauty paled in comparison to the radiance that shone from within Miyah. With each step she took, my resolve wavered, my heart aching with a longing I could no longer ignore.

With a trembling hand, I reached for hers, ready to speak the vows that would seal our fate. But as I opened my mouth to speak, a voice echoed in the depths of my soul—a voice that spoke of freedom, of redemption, of a love that knew no bounds.

"As I stand here before you, in this moment meant for celebration, with more sincerity than any I've ever felt in my life, I confess this to you. You are the ideal woman of every man's dream. With such elegance, beauty and mindblowing talent."

I saw Torres blush hard before I continued.

"But my heart belongs to someone else. Marrying you would a betrayal to my heart. I can't ignore the truth any longer, Tory. I hope you forgive me someday."

My confession echoed through the room, met with stunned silence and gasps of disbelief from those gathered.

And in that moment, I knew what I had to do.

I walked out and headed straight to my car, my mind consumed by thoughts of Miyah. Ignoring the voice of reason that warned against reckless behavior.

Outside, it was pouring heavily, the rain drumming against the windshield with a relentless intensity. But I paid no heed to the weather, my only focus on the image of Miyah's face, her expression etched in my mind with a clarity that defied the storm raging outside.

Each step on the accelerator brought me closer to her, the memory of her smile and the warmth of her presence driving me forward with an urgency I couldn't ignore. I sped off with an alarming speed, the rush of adrenaline fueling my determination.

The road blurred beneath me as I pushed the limits of speed and recklessness, my only focus on reaching her, on seeing her once more.

With each passing moment, my desire to see her grew stronger, overshadowing any sense of caution or restraint. The thought of being apart from her, of letting her slip through my fingers without a fight, was unbearable.

For in that moment, nothing else mattered but the overwhelming need to be with her, to make things right, no matter the cost.

From the moment I first laid eyes on her, I was captivated by her ethereal beauty. Her eyes, like pools of liquid amber, held a depth and warmth that seemed to draw me in, casting a spell that I found impossible to resist. And though I tried to maintain my composure, to keep up the facade of indifference, I was powerless against the magnetic pull of her presence.

In those stolen moments when our paths crossed, I found myself struggling to maintain my sanity, my every instinct urging me to reach out and touch her, to hold her close and never let her go.

And yet, despite my best efforts to conceal my true feelings, fate had other plans in store for us.

Our first date—the simple yet profound act of sharing a meal together—had revealed a connection that transcended the boundaries of reason and logic. As we sat across from each other, her extreme nervousness made her even more adorable.

And then there was the piano—a moment etched into my memory with the indelible ink of longing and desire. As I stood behind her with my hands over hers, guiding her fingers on the keys, I felt a surge of emotion wash over me, threatening to consume me in its fiery embrace.

Then there was when I smashed my lips against hers. The taste of her lips, the softness of her touch, the intoxicating scent of her skin—it was a symphony of sensations that left me breathless, my heart pounding in my chest with a fervor I had never known. Nothing in my life was more fulfilling than how she moaned my name while I pleasured her.

I knew that I could no longer deny the truth that burned within me. I love her—I have always loved her—and I could not bear the thought of spending one more moment away from her.

Miyah's POV

"Miyah, you have to eat something," Chelle said gently, sitting on the edge of my bed with a plate of toast and fruit.

"I'm not hungry," I mumbled, turning away from her.

"This isn't healthy," Joy added, her voice firm.

A tear slipped down my cheek as I hugged my pillow tighter. "I just can't, Joy. It hurts too much."

It was pouring heavily outside which reminded me of my first night at his house, and made me cry even harder.

The rain continued to pour down, a relentless reminder of the turmoil inside me. I was lying in bed, lost in my thoughts, when I heard a commotion outside. Voices, muffled by the rain, but growing louder.

"Miyah! Miyah, please come out! I need to see you!"

I sat up, my heart pounding. That voice—it was Avery. I rushed to the window and saw him standing outside, drenched to the bone, screaming my name. My heart skipped a beat, torn between hope and confusion.

I hesitated, overwhelmed by a mix of emotions. "I don't know if I can face him," I said, my voice trembling.

Chelle grabbed my morning coat and handed it to me. "You have to go. He's out there, in the rain, for you."

"I... I can't," I stammered, my feet rooted to the floor.

Joy and Chelle exchanged a determined look. "You're going," Joy said firmly. They each grabbed one of my arms and practically dragged me out of the room.

"Come on, Miyah. This is your moment," Chelle insisted as they ushered me downstairs. My heart pounded with every step, and my hands shook as I walked downstairs.

There he was, standing in the pouring rain, looking desperate and determined.

"Avery? What are you doing here?" I asked, my voice wavering.

"I couldn't do it," he said, stepping closer. "I couldn't marry her. I realized that I can't live without you, Miyah."

I stared at him, trying to process his words. "You walked out on your wedding?"

"Yes," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "I followed my heart, and it led me to you."

"We can't... you're my supervisor." I said as tears started rolling down my cheeks.

"I'll quit working here. I'll transfer to another hospital. I don't care. Heck, I'll bring down the heavens to be with you. " He stated. His eyes filled with determination more than ever.

Tears filled my eyes as I took a step back, my mind racing. "Why should I believe you?"

"Because I've never been more certain of anything in my life," he said, his voice breaking. "From the moment I saw you, my heart has belonged to you. I've tried to deny it, to push it aside, but I can't deny the truth any longer. Every beat, every breath, it's all for you. I love you, Miyah Anderson. I always have."

For a moment, I was silent, the rain pouring down on us. Then, slowly, I stepped forward, closing the distance between us.

"I love you too, Steve Avery," I whispered, my voice barely audible over the sound of the rain. And in that moment, as our lips met in a deep, passionate kiss, the world around us faded away, leaving only the two of us, lost in the intensity of our love.
