Anyone that wanted to do business with a player always went through the players agent. The agent was in charge of all business dealings of the player.
The player was usually to be involved in only the sporting side of things, while the agent ensured that the player got the best in any deal.
The agents fee was a 10% cut on the income of the player. And even when there was a player transfer, if the agent helped to process the transfer or negotiations over a player he would also get a fee as a bonus.
Players usually had agents coming up to them in other to represent them once they believed or it was obvious that such player would have a bright future.
Tony had only entered the sights of the professionals when he got into the academy at the age of 18. So it was normal that he had yet to get an agent, so when he got his first contact with a person that claimed to be an agent he was kind of happy.
"Hey Good morning Mr Tony Lane, I am James Lake." A handsome man with average height who was sharply dressed in a black suit gave Tony a business card as he approached Tony at the gates of the academy.
Tony and John were just driving out after training when they were approached by the football agent who gave him a business card through the window.
"I am a football agent and representative and my agency has been monitoring and watching you for a while. And after doing some findings we discovered you don't have a representative as we are very interested in becoming your representative due to our believe in you and your incredible talent."
"We want to help you in securing have a very brighter and more promising future. We would have your best interest at heart in all your business dealings, so feel free to contact us when you make up your mind."
The agent quickly gave his pitch to Tony whose car was still on the way out of the academy. After the agent had said what he wanted to say and had gone away, Tony continued to drive off as he and John continue to ponder on what had just happened.
"You are really lucky to be approached by an agent as it shows that people now have more belief in you and you are expected to be a success in professional football." John said as they drove home.
"Don't think about it too much, it might just be a person who is looking to make some quick bucks from me." Tony casually said as they drove, He wanted to belittle the importance of the meeting with an agent as John was yet to have an agent, but he was seriously pondering on the issue of an agent as he drove to go drop John off.
After thinking about it for a while, he remembered his mom was a banker when she was younger and would still have an understanding of contracts and business dealings than even some other agents.
He felt his mom was the best candidate as she would genuinely always have his interest at heart and would not derail a good deal for him because she wasn't paid properly as her goal would mainly be his.
All she had to do was brush up on a few things and study the football world and dealings a little and know how it was being run.
When he got home he told his mom about his meeting with the agent before he suggested to his mom about she becoming his agent and representative.
"No problem as it is still early days, i can easily manage it as you are still early in your career, but when it starts getting difficult we might have to find a more reputable agency as a replacement."
Tony's mom answered but she immediately happily began to use her phone to brush up somethings about football dealings and businesses.
Tony's mom was happy to be involved in her son's professional career as she could ensure he wasn't cheated and she would also be busy and not be totally idle anymore.
She began to read up on some of the things a player needed and could also use to generate extra income in addition to there standard contracts with a club.
Most football players also used their family members as there agents to represent them. Some players used there wives, parent or even a sibling as long as the person had the necessary experience and was trustworthy.
Tony's mom was definitely the best person for him, he didn't have to worry about being cheated or anything like that. And his mom will naturally have his best interest at heart.
Tony's mom informed him that she would be following him to the academy in the following week, maybe on the Monday. She said she wanted to properly introduce herself to the Manager of the Under 18s team and to some other important members of the club who needed to have her contact in other to contact her in his stead.
After that Tony he went into his room and did some other things for the rest of the day until the next day of training.
The next day of training continued as the groups were reshared and each group had a mini post that they used in attacking and defending against each other.
After training Tony went to his arcade centre and conducted standard interviews for the people that had been sent over for the jobs.
He chose the workers he needed and later notified them when he got home and have them time they were to resume working close to the launching of the arcade centre after he had saved there informations.
After that Training went on smoothly throughout the week as the players continued to defend and against each other with different teammates and against different groups of players as opponents.
