Ghostly Friend

Arriving in front of his new sister, he practically begged as he asked, "Hey, Alexa, can you please just randomly talk to me because I don't want to talk with… Vient."

Hearing her brother use that tone, Alexa decided to accept his request as this was his special day, "Ok, I guess, but you owe me something later. To begin with, I have been getting better at drawing, adding in more shadow into my style of…" Alexa continued to talk about her new artistic style, and Lucras figured out quickly that the ones that decorate their house was most likely hers.

Finally getting a chance to talk with Ava again, he asked, 'So what about this ghost?'

A blue screen popped up as Ava explained, [When you originally entered to this body, the original Lucras had almost left for the next plane as he had been ejected from his body. And although that other system was idiotically made, with all of its broken functions, it was good at capturing souls. Did you really think that it would get you memories just out of thin air? No, it was going to extract memories from that soul and put it in your soul.]

Frowning, he thought, 'Ok, So you're telling me, that instead of moving on, that soul is now stuck with me? Is this permanent, or can he move on? And will he be able to talk with me?'

The blue screen rapidly changed as Ava explained, [Currently, he is receding in my soul core, as I don't need all of the space. It is allowing him to recover as the old system did a lot of damage and his soul was originally injured. Also he is stuck with us for now as the passageway to the soul realm is closed, so he is going to have be staying with us. When he recovers more of his soul, he will be able to interact with the world. ]

Shocked about this brand new information, Lucras decided to push and get more information, 'What's the soul core? Also, can he use the system to talk like you do, or is he too weak?'

[I am a soul, which you named Ava and I live inside of an artifact that is the main component of your current system and was trapped inside of the old system. Also the ghost is currently too weak, but I can interact with him. He can currently hear you but he won't be able to interact with you for a hot second. If you want him to recover faster, look for a soul type treasure or something. Or let time deal with it. ]

Happy with his new information, Lucras replied happily, 'Great. I am happy he is recovering and isn't gone. I would have felt horrible for that. Also, do you have like a system shop or thing like those light novels? Also, you got to put more in the status so I can tell my progress.'

The screen changing again, as Ava lazily explained, [I currently don't have a shop, but quests will come up that can allow the system to upgrade itself. So maybe in the future, the system could have a shop, but that's only if you do a main mission, and side missions will just get you some items or increase status. Also, you need to give me a standard to get more information on your status and what you want to measure]

After a moment of thinking, Lucras thought, 'Fine. When can I get a mission? Also, measure in reference to an adult in this world. And can you measure my strength, speed, stamina, and my physical health since those are useful.'

The blue screen shrunk as an automated voice bleeped our, [[Currently Generating Stats and Updating Status Screen]].

After the generating stats screen closed and chimed at him, he smiled and thought, 'Status.'

After looking through the stats he got, he noticed that besides his speed, he was a lot weaker than other adults, but decided to give himself some slack as they were adults. But Lucras decided to first work on his abysmal stamina when he can as that will only kill him in this new probably dangerous world. He then looked over his effects and thought, 'Thank you for the new status screen, What's the <hidden> about? Also what does the Ghostly Friend effect do?'

A new light blue screen popped up as Ava teased, [Guess you'll just have to figure that out. And and adult in this world counts as a 14 year old… so low, poooor you! Have fun, love ya, don't die!] Giggles follow after that message rang out in his head. Again, he tried to get more out of Ava, but he got nothing in response besides giggles which just brought out an annoyed feeling in him.

Then a voice brought him out of his head as his sister said with a worried expression, "Are you ok? Your expression keeps changing and it's distressing. Are you about to go insane with the wait? It's only a few minutes before the assessment starts."

Seeing his new sister worried filled Lucras with a feeling of warmth as he replied, "Oh, yeah sorry, I was thinking about everything that brought us up to this moment. So what's the test again?"

His sister then shook her head like she expected this weirdly from her idiot brother, and stated, "The assessment tests the attunement of magical essence you have. Magical essence allows you to produce spells. Usually, people have around 40, and the highest ever seen was about a legendary 295, coming from the mage god. This legendary being brought the world together and ruled over everything for 500 peace filled years. In the test, you go up and touch the orb, and the orb lights up little stars inside, and the more attuned with magical essence the more stars you get. And the amount of stars are the numbers that are used in measuring your magic potential. And you best get a good number or I'll get the chance to bully you, 'cause I am going to be legendary with a one million stars and rule over the world."

Wind seemed to pass by him as he got a strange warm, happy feeling and replied, "Oh, yeah, I remember now. I am not that stupid to forget, but thanks and don't worry, your brother will be fine and get at least a two million stars and …"

As he was about to add something else to his statement, A bell rang out, and the crowd instantly became quiet. A brown robed man walked out of the Tower door. In his hand was a case, riddled with curved lines that seemed to simmer in the light. He briskly walked out, and at a sufficient distance from the Tower, he lifted his hand, and everyone quickly backed far away from the man. After the man's hand glowed slightly and he mumbled a few words that Lucras couldn't understand or hear him. Around his hands, symboled seems to appear in a circular pattern, before a stage-sized area lifted out of the ground. It was complete with stairs that connected the ground and this new stone stage-like area. Then the mage's voice rang out in the crowd, "Welcome everyone to this local Mage Tower's 452nd assessment test. My name is Darren, and I will be the mage residing over the test. Now to begin, I will call a name up, then you will come up and touch the orb, and if you have more than 50 stars you will be able to join the Mage Tower!"

Then the mage Darren opened the box and revealed a black orb, a deep blackness that looked like an empty void. Maybe when there are some stars, it would look beautiful.

Darren then started called out some names. As most went up and tested, they didn't even reach that 50 stars, but most did get above 30 making some mediocre star systems that just seemed like they are randomly placed. Time passed quickly, and the new morning poured into midday as the large group slowly got tested, when Darren finally called out "Vient Javs!"

Lucras watched as Vient ran up to the stage with excitement on his face and in his eyes. After reaching the stage, he looked toward Darren before he reached out to the orb. As soon as he touched the orb, the orb seemed to light up. What looked like a beautiful complete star system lit up inside of the orb. Darren went into shock at the beautiful star system like the rest of the crowd, but after a second of recovering, he counted the stars quickly and announced loudly to the shocked crowd, "Congratulations to Vient Javs for getting 135! Would you like to start your legendary story at the Mage Tower Vient?"

Vient excitedly shouted at the top of his lungs, "Yes! Absolutely, thank you!"

Darren nodded at his response and out of seemingly thin air another robed mage appeared. Darren took a moment to talk to the mage before turning back around to test. The new robed mage then walked Vient into the Mage Tower through its massive doors as Vient just follows in shock. Then Darren continued to announce names, out to the star shocked crowd as the had just witnessed a Legend in the making.
