A day off

Adriana read the message Chris sent, to have her eyes squint a little wondering if the message was actually from him.

The Chris she had come to know was someone she was sure wouldn't give days off from work because of anything which made her wonder what had prompted him to give her a free day from work tomorrow.

Was it maybe because she had fainted in school and thought maybe she would be too weak to resume work for now? Adriana wondered and the thought only made her want to laugh.

Who knew Chris had a soft spot for sick people somewhere. Thought Adriana but in actual fact, what she did not know was that Chris had only given her the day off because of his own personal interest.

He did not want Adriana meddling in his business and knew having her around would only cause trouble and unnecessary problems which he was trying to avoid.

"Why didn't you bring her today Chris, has your mum finally let you off the hook and stopped her suspicions?" Santiano spoke, playing with the chain on his neck with his tongue running across his teeth.

"I told her to take the day off today, she would just be a Hassle if she were to come" Chris said nonchalantly and that was when Victoria walked in.

"You shouldn't have. She seems cool, she would be easy to deal with" Victoria said convincingly as if she hadn't known Adriana for just a few hours.

"I agree" Santiano chimed but only got a glare from Chris instead which was enough to shut him up.

"Why don't you just give her the free will to stay home however she wanted and that way we won't have to deal with trying to hide the truth from her" it was Zander who said as he now walked over to where the trio were.

"That would be easier wouldn't it?" Grinned Chris hiding the underlying meaning behind his words to his friends who now looked at him suspiciously.

Of course they knew Chris could easily get rid of the girl which only made them wonder why he still kept her around him.

"Don't joke too much Zander you don't expect me to just let her off after collecting our money now do you?" Chris said dryly his earlier grin dropping as if it were never there.

Meanwhile on the other hand, Adriana used the free time she was given to go to the mall. It was all she could do actually, not that there was a way she could trail Vanessa down and finally get a hold of her but for the meantime, she would just have to do other things to kill time.

Adriana's eyes twitched looking at the dresses that were hung on the mall's hanger. She still couldn't believe she had become someone who would have to be checking price tags instead of just picking them at random if she wanted them.

"Relax Adriana, relax, it is just for a while" Adriana breathed in and out before finally picking up a black dress which was in her budget and was definitely her style of dress.

"Vanessa" Adriana suddenly heard behind her but only ignored it. She wasn't Vanessa was she?

"Vanessa…." The person called again and this time, the person suddenly appeared in front of Adriana who in turn gave the boy a glare.

He was putting on glasses and had curly black hair which made sense to Adriana as she thought, those were the type of people Vanessa would have obviously made friends with.

"It's so nice to see you again after so many years haha" the boy laughed as if he had made a joke but Adriana didn't find him funny.

"Move" Was what Adriana replied with as he was in her way and she had wanted to walk to the counter before he showed up.

The boy's eyebrows rose wondering if he had heard right but only laughed after an awkward minute of silence. It was at this time he had used to size up the outfit his former classmate was wearing and looking at her more closly now, his jaw dropped.

"Yo…you look so different Vanessa" the boy commented slightly amused. The Vanessa he had known wasn't the type to dress this sharply and to think that she was this pretty?

"I don't think you heard me before, I said move" Adriana said with a hard glare and this alone was enough to make the boy step away from her as the tone she had used was harsh, but before she could move an inch, a girl had come to join the boy who immediately recognized her.

"Looks like someone has been taking my advice" the girl said, not bothering to offer any form of greetings to her as she only gaped at the new Vanessa who looked absolutely stunning right now.

Adriana didn't have time to chit chat with the two who she had tagged to be pathetic as she walked away from there.

"What do you think? I think she did plastic surgery" the girl whispered to the boys ear once she saw that Adriana was now out of sight.

"What are you talking about? Her features have barely changed although I must admit she looks totally...…"

"Different??" The girl completed the boy's words for him knowing the two of them had been thinking the same thing.

On the other hand, Adriana finished paying for the goods she had bought and went straight home.

Once she got home, she cleaned up the house again even though she had done saw before, it was just one of the things she liked doing and once she was done with that, she went ahead to mark the date she was supposed to meet with the doctor for her checkup and while doing so only made her remember Vanessa and her blood started boiling.

She really needed to do something about the girl. She couldn't just roam around in her body and think it was okay.

She knew the girl was only taking the grace that if she were to tell anybody, no one would believe her. Not even her mum even if she tried. The situation she was in right now wasn't one that someone would hear and not think it was either a made up story or a TV series or they either tag the person to be crazy.

Adriana spent the rest of the day doing other things and when the next day finally came, she got dressed for work and took a taxi to Chris house and while she entered the living room, she met with Mrs Taylor who welcomed her with a warm smile.

"I heard from Chris that you weren't feeling well which was why you couldn't come to work yesterday, are you all better now?" Mrs Taylor asked like a concerned mother that she was and while she had taken her time to ask, she only got a nod from Adriana but by now she was already used to the way she was.

"Shouldn't your son be ready by now?" Adriana asked, rolling her eyes at Chris tardiness.

"You shouldn't ask such questions from your employer. you seem to be growing rebellious by the day which only makes me wonder what type of punishment would be best suitable for you" Adriana heard the sudden voice coming from the stairs and she turned her head to see Chris walking towards where she and Mrs Taylor were.

"You seem to be forgetting you aren't the one who employed me" Adriana retorted back and she could well enough see the grin on his face.

"Are you trying to get another strike here miss" Chris questioned and Adriana could only roll her eyes.

"Stop bullying her Chris, you should know the condition she is in" Mrs Taylor said with a sigh. Even if she told him, would he listen to her though? There were just some things she couldn't control when it came to him.

"Perfect!! Then she should know that if she goes against me again her punishment would be to hold three blocks of brick on her head for two hours, that should teach her a lesson or two" Chris said as he offered her a bright smile which was nowhere reaching his ears while Adriana's knees abruptly froze on the spot she stood.

He wasn't serious was he??
