Or will he succumb to his own power and become the ultimate villain? Find out in this thrilling and hilarious story of fantasy gone wrong. -------------------- Author's Note 1: This isn't cliché, it's a PARADOX! …That Totally Went To Waste.

After changing myself in an empty room inside the guild, I look proud of myself.

'Now, I'm truly a full-fledged adventurer,'

I stood in front of a mirror and looked at myself once again. My rough black hair that doesn't obey my command, my oval face with black eyes that were not too handsome but also not bad, my medium 5.6 feet height that's considered normal, or even short in this world, and lastly, my body without that much of muscles.

All the while looking like a true adventurer with my new getup and a sword hanging at my back, I checked my status and felt fulfilled.

My status wasn't good, but I knew that some protagonists in the novel I read had it way worse than me. My adventurer's card only showed my <Basic Status>, <Quests>, and an empty slot for <Party>. Just like System, Rinrin had told me that they would also evolve after I started to rank up.

Finally, saying goodbye to Rinrin and Lafa, ignoring the other blue-haired girl, who was with them, I walked out of the guild. "Good morning, Sally..." Once again, ignoring the voices of the mob, I went to one of the beginner's areas of the forest to kill low-level slimes and complete my beginner quest assigned by Rinrin for today. She had also given me a small map for easier navigation.

I was lucky and didn't encounter any other monsters, and I got a little… crazy, and before I knew it, I killed all the slimes I found in a brutal way like playing a game. Those low-level slimes were no match for my quick brain. I slowly killed each slime with different attacks.

I found 5 level 2 slimes that gave me 10 Exp each, and the 19 level 1 slimes gave me 5 Exp each. The day was beginning to end, and I was satisfied with my progress. I knew if I went any deeper into the forest, I would encounter stronger slimes, but I refrained, thinking that I would enjoy it after gaining more experience.

Now, I was on level 3 with 25 Exp remaining to become a Copper level 4. After collecting the final core of the level 2 slime I killed, I started my walk to return to the guild and sell these cores.

But…

Suddenly, I saw a man in a stylish black coat fall in front of me. Despite the fact that I had just killed all those slimes in a brutal manner, I couldn't help but feel compassion for the man and rushed over to assist him.

The old man appeared to be over 70 years old, yet he still exuded a sense of coolness and handsomeness with his square face and white beard. I offered him my hand and helped him up, then guided him to the nearest boulder where he could rest for a while.

As I took in the expensive and stylish coat that the old man was wearing, I couldn't help but think that he was probably a noble. I calculated that there was a 120% probability that the old man would reward me for my selfless help, just like in a hidden event in a VR MMORPG or video game novel.

"Thanks, lad," he said, his gruff voice.

"No problem, sir," I replied, hoping that my kindness would be rewarded. The old man gazed at me intently, studying my face.

'Now, what should I ask him? Gold or silvers? Maybe a weapon or something rare, *hehe* no matter what, I have to benefit from this situation, *hehehe*'

I went to my calculating mind but soon was interrupted by the old man.

"Lad, I'm missing something or maybe lost it here. It's some equipment I think. Will you find it and bring it for me?"

"I'll gladly bring it to you, sir. Just tell me what it is and where you lost it."

I made a proud declaration.

"I don't remember, lad… I don't remember anything."

When I looked at the old man now, I saw pain on his face. His eyes were colorless and deep, filled with his life experience and past regrets. I understood all.

"What happened, sir? Are you tired? Do you want to drink something?" I said with concern.

"No, lad. But, why are you helping me?"

"I don't need a reason to help a senior, sir."

When the old man heard my reason, his painful expression softened and a smile appeared on his face. The more I talked and looked at the old man, the cooler he started to become in my eyes. He may look old and tired, but I knew that behind those expensive coat and old body, there was an ocean of experiences in life that I wouldn't be able to achieve. He was the perfect ideal type of old man that I wanted to become in the future.

"I'm glad I met you, sir," I said, feeling grateful for the unexpected encounter. "You must be experienced in fighting, right? I recently became an adventurer."

"I see, lad. Don't give up. Never!" he replied with a reassuring smile.

"Never," I echoed.

We sat in silence, watching the setting sun and enjoying each other's company. The peacefulness of the moment was soothing, but it was soon interrupted by the old man's voice.

"You see, lad, I made a promise to my friends that I'll come and save them a long time ago. But now, even though I'm still searching for them, I had already forgotten the faces of all my friends."

I listened to him without interrupting, wondering if his friends were even alive after all these years. Still, I admired the old man for never giving up on his search. He was truly worthy of my respect.

"No matter how much I try to remember, those memories are never coming back. Those days when we traveled and fought together were the best days of my life, lad. Having precious comrades was as good as having another brother or sister, remember that too lad, choose them wisely."

In the middle of their talk, something strange suddenly dropped near them. The old man didn't react but Sally felt something was wrong.

The old man was closing his eyes and trying to remember something, so I got up quietly and went to that place. When I was near, I saw a type of hat and a long piece of black cloth.

But, when I took them in my hands, Cold sweat started to run down my forehead. The type of hat that I was holding was a typically pointed mage's hat and the black cloth was actually an old dusty cloak.

That means,

"S-sir, the thing you are looking for, was it h-hat and a cloak?"

I said without looking at the old man.

"I remember!! Yes, lad, it was my hat and cloak. Did you find it?"

"Find it my foot!"

Throwing both of them into the ground, I ran as fast as my legs offered, cursing loudly at that old man.

"Fck you, fck you, fck you, old man! I'm never going to become like you! Just die!! Bullshit and dogshit my damn LUCK!!"

I cursed and ran without looking back, but I heard the old man talking to himself. Maybe the influence of my Skill, Comprehension. I could understand everything he said as if he was sitting near him.

The track I was running turned 180 degrees and arrived in front of that old man.

"Is it true what you said? Do you really need someone to draw a Legendary Sword? Tell me!!"

I tried shaking the old man, but damn! he didn't budge a muscle.

"Yes, Thanks to you lad, I remembered that I was also looking for a worthy person who can wield a Legendary Sword. But the place where it located was filled with powerful monsters that no one ever returned after entering"

'It's all a big misunderstanding! He isn't kidnapping people; he's actually giving trials for those people. It's once-in-a-lifetime chance for me to acquire a legendary sword. My luck isn't shit'

"Old man, can you give me that trial too?"

"Didn't you hear me, lad? That place was filled with high-level strong monsters that you can't defeat them. You'll die as soon as you step inside it"

"I DON'T F*CKING CARE. SEND ME RIGHT NOW"

"Eh? … I like you, lad… I like you."

Nodding to himself, the old man continued.

"Don't worry lad, I'll send you right now, but don't ever give up you hear me?"

"YES"

With burning passion, Both Sally and the Old man disappeared from that place.

Maybe my creative mind is getting creative ideas for chapter names.

The real fight and adventurers will bigin on the next chapter. SO, don't forget to support the book : )
