Family of the Sunflower

Ever since Alektrona watched a movie about faeries, she always believed in supernaturals. When people told her there are no such things as supernatural, she always replied, "If there are no such things as supernaturals, where did the myths and legends come from? Imagination? Hallucination? I don't know! But I would love to know and meet one," She says it with a bright smile but, once she meets their confused gaze, she looks back at them with the same confusion as them. "I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who believes in spirits and faeries... right...? " And look at them expectation in her eyes. Her answer makes others fall speechless apart from her grandmother, who loves Greek mythology. Although Alek believes in the existence of supernaturals, she's never encountered one. God knows how many books she's read about Supernaturals. Alek talked to everything she sees and asks them, "When will you guys finally show up to me and start a conversation? I wouldn't tell anybody! I just want to meet you guys so that I couldn't die happily. So I'll be here, waiting for you guys to show up and talk to me." *********** Alek sneakily entered the room and was greeted by a boy facing toward the window opposite the door that she just entered. She thought he was Kai. She prepared to scare him. But before she tried to do anything, he snapped his neck to where she was standing. She was caught off guard. But what she saw next was enough for her brain to stop functioning. "What the..." Alek could not continue. The boy looked like her dead brother, Aether. *********** "They are not friendly, especially the Shiwasu." Astraea told her niece. "If you can't prove that you are able to replace her, then we are all doomed." Everyone was listening to her with serious faces, even the youngest looked like she knew that would be the end. "I will prove it." Alek spoke with determination in her eyes. ------------------ This is the story about shape-shifters and some parts are written in Japanese in roman alphabet as this book contains a little bit of Japanese culture and tradition. Was It The Right Thing To Do?

After being scared by her parents, Alek asked them if they could shift. She already saw her siblings in their modern form and, she wanted to see her parents in their forms too, rather than just hearing how they would look like. A picture is worth a thousand words. And of course, Panacea and Robin said yes and, Robin asked her which one she would want to see.

"Both!" Alek exclaimed as she looked at them in excitement, rolling off her entire being.

"Okay. Then I'll show you my original one first." Robin answered before he shifted into a huge, black scorpion right in front of his exciting daughter. He didn't need to concentrate like Bia as he was used to shifting and practising. Shifters take less time to shift when they are used to it.

His scorpion wasn't like the normal animal scorpion. His size reached around a metre with his tail curled back and, Alek could see how sharp the claws were. She felt like that could cut and squash her throat anytime. His legs and claws were light compared to the body. Robin uncurled his tail and waited for something to happen.

Alek was amazed and, she asked if he could extend one of his claws so that she could touch it. She as kind of getting in the middle of claws and getting hurt by mistake as that was a huge probability because Alek was clumsy. The scorpion extended his arms slowly so that Alek would see every moment and finally reached her outstretching hand. The scale was hard as a rock and, Alek could see that soft hair covering some part of the body.

Alek tapped the claw for no reason and moved to get a better view of her father's body. Robin retracted his claw and stayed still in the position, cautious if any of his movement hurting his precious daughter.

It was hard to crawl on the ground to see, so she stood up and went around the giant black scorpion. Alek came back to her original position after five minutes while everyone watched her move and sat in front of her father again. She was carefully now and asked her father if he could shift into the other modern form, which was chameleon.

Robin stepped back a little before he shifted into his human form to again shift into a chameleon. Again, the shape of the chameleon was not the normal size like the ones Alek saw in the zoo. It was almost the same size as the scorpion. She didn't feel like this with Kai as she thought that was how crocodiles were. But this scorpion and chameleon are not.

This chameleon was colourful compared to the previous scorpion as the colour of the skin was vibrant blue with dark stripes. The eyes were the same colour, and it was interesting.

Robin started taking the colour of the ground with grass and, soon, he looked like he didn't have any legs and was flying. It was more than what an animal chameleon could do and, this was more than amazing.

Alek gasped and touched where the legs were supposed to be and grasped what seemed to be an invisible stick. She couldn't believe her eyes. Her eyes were telling her that the chameleon in front of her was floating but, her hand told her that there were legs under. It was confusing but truly a sight to be held.

Robin brought back colours on his legs and changed them transparent. The whole time, Alek kept her hands on one of his legs and, she could confirm that his legs were there. It was now transparent, clear as glass and, she could see the other side, unlike when his legs were green. The clear legs didn't leave any shadows on the ground even when the sun was shining over him.

When Robin turned back to his original colours, Alek was interested in how the legs gradually turned back. It was fascinating. He then changed the colour of the stripes several times before he shifted in a flash, carrying his daughter in a princess style.

"W, Woah." Alek breathed as her father put her on the ground softly. She was like hypnotised by her father and, she couldn't take her eyes off him even when she was on the ground. "That's so awesome."

Her father smiled before eyeing her mother, indicating it was her turn. Alek turned to look at her mother when she found a beautiful, big lizard on the ground. The colour was deeper and much bluer than her father's chameleon and, it was fitting her mother perfectly.

The size of the exotic blue lizard was around the size of her upper body and, the black eyes of the lizard was like the universe. Alek had an open mouth the moment she saw the lizard and, it looked like it wasn't going to shut any time soon.

The lizard tilted her head cutely to Alek. For a moment, Alek forgot that this creature in front of her was her mother and almost hugged her. She snapped back when she saw the lizard reaching to her step by step. She sat down slowly on the ground and watched the blue lizard get close to her.

When the lizard reached her daughter, she brought her legs on Alek's lap and tapped lightly, while tilting her head. And strangely, Alek knew what her mother was asking. Alek nodded to the lizard and, then the lizard climbed on her lap while looking at her eyes.

The blue lizard looked at Alek deeply before spreading her short front legs and hugged her daughter. Alek was speechless but, she soon reciprocated the lizard hug to her mother.

If one of the neighbours saw this, they would have called the police or something to remove the thing in Alek's arms. It would have been weird to see a girl hugging a huge blue creature in her arms but they could feel somehow feel the deep connection between these two creatures.

Panacea touched Alek's face with her tail before getting away from her daughter to shift back into a human. Like Robin, Panacea didn't need to concentrate or take time to shift back as she was used to it. Shifting was like breathing for her.

"Why have you been hiding these excellent, mind-blowing things from me?!" Alek asked as she jumped up. "I wanna have powers too."

"You do have powers, sweetie. It's just that... it's not the right time, I guess." Panacea couldn't make her daughter feel okay with her being the only one without powers.

"When do you think it's gonna come?" Alek asked quietly while looking at the people around her.

"We don't know." Robin answered the question as the atmosphere turned heavy.

"Do you think I have powers?" Alek asked sadly.

"Of course you do!" Her mother answered without skipping a heartbeat.

"Then how come it's not here yet?! Kai and Bia developed it when they were still in primary school. Why not me then?! All the people in this family have powers except me." Now, Alek had tears and, they were threatening to fall. "Have I done something?'

"Alek, if you don't want us to see in our forms we would never shift again in front of you again. We wouldn't talk about shifting and supernatural world in front of you." Bia cut off her sister.

"No! That's not what I'm saying! I am happy that you guys have powers, okay?! Of course I am. Why wouldn't I be? I'm happy that you are happy." a drop of tear streamed down Alek's face. "It's just that I feel like..." Alek couldn't describe her feelings.

Everyone had now regretted showing Alek everything. Panacea was about to apologise when Alek spoke. "I... need some time to process." She said as she walked away from her family. They all knew where she was going but, she still told them. "I'll be Aether's room."

Nobody moved to follow after Alek and, the air was still heavy as they looked at each other.

"Maybe, we shouldn't have told her." Panacea spoke as clutched her husband's hand.

"No, mum," Kai spoke. "Alek needed this." He then slowly went back to the house. "I think she needs time like she said."

"I don't like seeing Alek like that but, I think you guys did the right thing by telling her. I think this was the best way to tell her." Bia agreed to her brother. She only tells her true feelings to her parents and the grandmother.

The parents had worried faces but believed what their daughter said. Even though Bia tells them her true feelings, she often kept them inside her and, it was uncommon to hear her opening up. Bia looked at her parents before leaving the garden like her siblings.

Panacea took a deep breath before she looked at her husband and told him. "I'm going to call my sister." Meaning she was going to tell her. Robin knew the meaning and, he nodded.

She jumped to the wall of the house in a blink and landed on the side elegantly. She then entered one of the windows that were facing the garden and entered. It was their room. Robin looked at where his wife had walked before he too disappeared into the house, leaving the garden empty.
