CHAPTER 920: Godfall

Having heard Polo's words, the Godhunters marched forward with mockery on their faces. Slowly, they tightened the circle around Luca and his troops.

Luca's heart pounded. He shouted, "You dare? I'm Lord Logue's most trusted servant. If you touch me, His Lordship won't let you go!" Luca knew he had no chance against Polo and his forces and once again tried to intimidate Polo using Logue's name.

"With all of you dead, he will have no idea who killed you. How will he find out it's me?" Polo grinned maliciously and said, "Besides, what if Logue finds out? Do you think Lord Han Hao would be afraid of him? Haha, my brothers, slaughter away! Leave no one alive!"

Luca had said these words to taunt Bollands, Gilbert and Sanguis after surrounding them. He had not expected to get a taste of his own medicine a few minutes later when Polo mocked him with the same words. Luca couldn't have been more annoyed, but there wasn't much he could do against Polo, who was as wild as he was.

Polo did not give Luca the chance for any more chatter and came at him ferociously. He hit Luca with a Late-stage Highgod of Destruction.

Sanguis was astonished. He looked at Gilbert confusedly and asked, "How could this guy you call Han Hao command such a powerful group of experts? From what you've said, it doesn't sound like he was that strong back on the Profound Continent. How could he recruit so many powerful followers in just a few decades?"

"Well, how should I know?" Gilbert chuckled and said, "But that guy was a strange one all along. He would murder and plunder with Master and has served Master much longer than we have. Hehehe, weren't you just as weak and powerless back in the Abyss Realm? But look how high you are now. Should it really surprise you that he, Master's first disciple, could grow in strength so quickly?"

"That is true. Back then, while we were in the City of Shadows building our House of Han, he was in Ronson Canyon building his Godhunter faction. He was the de facto ruler of Ronson Canyon before he left for the Fringe. It was only natural that his strength and influence would have grown even greater after staying in the Fringe for so long," explained Bollands, who had heard a thing or two about Han Hao.

"I really want to meet him," Sanguis muttered.

In the House of Han, Sanguis had always been the most powerful expert after Han Shuo. Sanguis's strength had grown rapidly over the past few years, and his arrogance had grown with it. It was only natural that Sanguis, a hot-headed teenager, would want to challenge Han Hao, who seemed to have strength and prestige beyond his own.

Bollands and Gilbert gave Sanguis a strange look, but said nothing. They both knew that even though Sangui's strength was growing rapidly, he would still not stand a chance against Han Hao. To fight Han Hao was to knock a stone from one's own feet.

If Polo, a follower of Han Hao, possessed Late-stage Highgod strength, then Han Hao must logically possess even greater strength than Polo. Since Sangui could not even defeat a Late-stage Highgod at this point, it would be impossible for him to defeat Han Hao.

While Bollands, Gilbert and Sanguis were chatting, Luca's minions were being crushed by Polo's godhunters. They suffered heavy casualties in a matter of moments.

"Gilbert, Sanguis, look at the movement and coordination of those Godhunters. Does it look familiar?" Bollands asked suddenly.

Sanguis and Gilbert watched the Godhunters carefully for a moment and their faces twitched slightly.

Surprisingly, Polo's Godhunters knew how to fight effectively as a team. It was obvious from their steps and coordination that they had been taught demonic combat formations. Even though they had not been tempered in the Eight Desolation and Torment Formation for years and were not as well trained as the Han guards, their effective combat power had been greatly enhanced under the demonic combat formation, allowing them to easily crush Luca's poorly coordinated forces.

"This guy has really learned a lot from Master. Haha, no wonder he is so accomplished among the Godhunters," Gilbert said smiling after making his observations.

"He is indeed exceptional. Sanguis has met his match, it seems," Bollands remarked after taking a look at Sanguis.

Bollands understood that Sanguis' temper would change for the worse as his strength grew and he began to look down on others. Bollands thought that it might be good for Sanguis to eat some humble pie.

Besides, Han Hao was also a member of the House of Han. Friendly competition would be good for the Sanguis.

"Let's help them up. Haha, it's not polite to just stand there and watch," Gilbert suggested excitedly after doing nothing for a while.

Before Bollands could speak, red lights flashed from Sanguis's eyes and he charged at the enemies, an intense stench of blood emanating from his body. Having Han Hao as a strong competitor seemed to have motivated Sanguis. Somehow, he seemed to have made another breakthrough in his cultivation of the Bloodgod Mantra.

"Holy crap, his blood aura has intensified. Don't tell me he's made another breakthrough? Sanguis is absolutely insane!" Gilbert was familiar with Sanguis's strength, and they were standing nearby. He exclaimed as he felt the blood aura around Sanguis grow more intense than before.

Bollands nodded gladly and smiled proudly. He remarked, "Sanguis is indeed talented. At this rate of progress, he may even surpass Han Hao in strength one day."

"I doubt that. Haha, you have not met Han Hao yet. This guy is even more terrifying and even more callous and heartless than you. There is no way that Sanguis could progress as fast as he could in terms of realm status," Gilbert said after thinking for a moment. He felt that Sanguis lacked something that Little Skeleton had.

"I can't wait to meet him," Bollands said. He also seemed very interested in Han Hao.

"Come on, let's kill these bastards!" shouted Gilbert before charging at Luca's minions.

Polo's forces had the upper hand over Luca's. As Sanguis, Bollands and Gilbert joined the massacre, Luca's minions perished at an even faster rate. One by one, they let out pitiful screams and perished, their divine energy drained.

In a matter of moments, the more than one hundred midgods Luca had brought with him were gone. All that remained was Luca and a few Highgods fighting for their lives. But it was clear that they wouldn't last much longer.

"There is no escape, Luca. It's a damn shame you don't cultivate destructive energy. Otherwise I could have had a real feast today," Polo said haughtily as he beat Luca up with five of his Godhunters.

"Don't worry, Polo. You may not be able to absorb his energy, but we can," a Highgod of Death remarked as his eyes, glowing with ravenous, savage light, fixed Luca. Saliva dripped from the corner of his mouth as he grinned.

Luca grew more desperate as he listened to the godhunters discussing how to divide the divine energy in his body. Whenever he tried to use a particular item in his space ring to escape, the firepower fired at him increased many times over, forcing him to defend himself and preventing him from using the escape tool.

As the battle continued, the injuries on Luca's body became more severe. Suddenly, he noticed that his eyelids felt incredibly heavy and the cognitive ability of his divine soul was diminishing.

"Poison? You... you have the complete upper hand and yet you use... poison?" Luca felt lethargic. He could barely lift his arms and legs as they felt as heavy as lead. Luca stared discontentedly at the sneering Polo as he shouted, "Despicable, how despicable! You... you will die horribly!"

"Hehe, we know that given your strength, we will have to suffer some losses if we were to kill you by normal means. But luckily for us, the House of Han makes medicine. Our weapons have been laced with a colourless and odourless poison called 'Godfall'. It is said that Lord Bryan himself created it. Accept your fate," Polo replied with a most treacherous smile.

Polo and his godhunters had attacked Luca, but not with a fatal blow, to keep him hopeful and prevent a kamikaze attack. However, they would make moderate cuts on Luca's body with their poisoned weapons, slowly poisoning him.

Godfall, a poison made by Han Shuo, was not only odourless and tasteless, but it also didn't activate in low doses, so the victim had no idea that he was being poisoned. The poison would slowly work its way around the victim's divine body, penetrating every cell. When the dosage was sufficient, when the victim felt the effects of the poison, it would be too late.

The poison would affect both the divine body and the divine soul. No matter what they did, they wouldn't be able to gather their energy. They would be incapacitated and a sitting duck. It would be impossible for them to do anything, let alone launch a kamikaze attack.

"Wahaha... Master is indeed becoming more despicable! This Godfall poison is wonderful! Hahaha, I must ask Master for some later. It is damn useful for massacres! It's like slowly pushing your enemies off a cliff without them noticing until it's too late! Hahah!" Gilbert called Han Shuo despicable, but it seemed that he used the word not as an insult, but as praise. He seemed to be very admiring and proud of Han Shuo.
