Felix's words caused a sudden panic among the warriors and mages, who had been working together smoothly to defend themselves against the orcish wolf riders. Their minds began to wander from defence to desperate thoughts of escape.
In an instant, an impregnable defence collapsed. Aside from the warriors at the front who fought as they retreated, the mages and archers panicked and fled in all directions.
Han Shuo had grabbed Fanny and Lisa's wrists and was dragging them with great force and haste to where the battle horses were stabled. Behind Han Shuo, Gene instructed the other necromancy students to follow close behind.
After a few rounds of fighting to the death, Han Shuo was no longer naive or terrified when faced with danger. He quietly thought about what he should do next as he calmly moved forward.
Also retreating with Han Shuo and the others were a few other mages and archers. Had these people blocked Han Shuo's forward movement, they would have been pushed aside without a moment's hesitation.
The archers and mages found it difficult to increase their speed in the chaos of the crowd. Somehow, with Han Shuo as their flesh shield, they managed to rush forward after a moment's work.
After fifteen minutes, Han Shuo had finally dragged Fanny and Lisa to where the battle horses were stabled, with Gene and the others following far behind. The master of the place had also gone to the southern streets to observe the earlier events, leaving only a servant inside to watch over the horses. Han Shuo immediately broke down the door and pulled Fanny and Lisa towards the stables in the back.
"What are you doing? What are you doing?" The elderly servant immediately stood up in panic when he saw Han Shuo breaking down the door and rushing towards the stables. He shouted angrily at them.
"The orc wolf riders have already fought their way here. If you stay here, you'll only meet death. We've come to collect the battle steeds we've stored here. If you want to live, then hurry, choose a battle steed, and flee!" Han Shuo explained calmly as he rushed towards the stables.
By this time, the old servant had already heard the chaos and commotion from outside. He blinked for a second and then made a beeline for the stables as well. It looked like he had accepted Han Shuo's suggestion.
Han Shuo finally let go of Fanny and Lisa's small hands and his eyes searched the surroundings. His eyes landed on a handsome battle steed and he leapt onto its back without another word. He was on the horse's back in a second, swinging the dagger in his hand and slicing through the ropes that held the battlesteed in place.
Turning his head, he saw that Gene and several of the light-major students had also made it to the stables. Panting, they joined Fanny and Lisa in searching for the horses they'd stabled here last time.
"Are you all idiots? The orc wolf riders will be here any minute, what are you looking around for? Not to mention, the battle steeds we stabled last time were all inferior beasts, there were only six of them... do you want to die?" Han Shuo could no longer contain his impatience and suddenly shouted when he saw that these people were still looking around the crowd of stabled Battle Beasts.
Han Shuo's violent roar echoed throughout the stables. The necromancy students and teachers who were looking for their battle steeds were all taught a lesson. They all froze at that moment - Han Shuo had called them idiots! It was a bit hard for them to accept!
"Then what do we do?" Lisa froze and then asked Han Shuo as she looked at him.
"Pick out the best, strongest battle steeds. We'll each take one. The lives of the others have nothing to do with us. If you all want to die, then keep looking for the inferior battle steeds we had!" Han Shuo's face darkened as he shouted with determination.
This was originally a simple concept, but the pity was that these necromancy students and teachers had always functioned in the necromancy major, which encompassed a multitude of rules and customs. For them, following the rules was the natural thing to do. They hadn't considered that all rules could be broken in times of crisis.
The faces of these people all froze under Han Shuo's curses of "idiots", which then turned to pensive frowns as Han Shuo continued in this vein of not caring about the lives of others. His words caused another round of shock to these students and teachers who were used to following the rules.
The commotion outside grew and they made quick decisions when faced with a crisis of life and death. No longer hesitating, they ran towards the fiercest and most brave of the fighters, their faces filled with determination.
When the necromancy students and teachers had all occupied the best battle steeds in the stables at Han Shuo's urging, they rushed out of the stables. At this point, the academy's light-major students and other clear-headed mages and archers finally made their way to the stables.
"Damn it, they're riding our battle horses." Irene's sharp eyes immediately noticed that the handsome battle steed Han Shuo was currently riding was the one she had ridden just a few days before. She immediately let out a loud complaint.
However, at that moment, Han Shuo and the others were already riding the fiercest battlesteeds in the stables and had rushed out with all due haste. Ignoring the curses from Irene and the others, they left only silhouettes behind as they retreated further and further away.
"Bryan, where shall we go now?" Fanny asked Han Shou as soon as they were out of the stables and onto the chaotic streets.
The warriors had already retreated to the city of Drol, and the orcish wolf riders had stormed the city. The defenceless merchants were the first to suffer as their swords sliced through their bodies, often decapitating them.
Since these wolf riders were riding giant wolves, they were in no hurry to pursue the fleeing warriors and mages. They just followed the road and started looting the first shops they found. Large sacks were hanging from the bodies of the giant wolves, and the resources of all the surrounding shops found their way into the sacks of the giant wolves.
"As long as it's not in the direction of Zajoski City, it doesn't matter where we flee to!" Han Shuo surveyed the surroundings and glanced at the eastern road. Noticing that there were fewer people fleeing on the northern road, he called out after a moment's thought. "Follow me, let's go north."
With the city of Drol about to fall, the most heavily fortified city in the southern part of the empire, Zajoski City, became the ideal target in the hearts of the desperate refugees. Han Shuo watched for a moment and noticed that seventy percent of the people from Drol City were fleeing in the direction of Zajoski.
However, of that seventy percent, only ten or so were on battle steeds. When the orcish wolf riders had finished sacking Droll, their first target would surely be this crowd.
With giant wolves for steeds, the wolf riders would surely be faster than those still on foot. With seventy percent of the city's population in the crowd, the orcs were sure to send most of the wolf riders after them. In this way, the seventy percent who fled towards Zajoski were the ones most likely to die.
As soon as he began his calm deliberations, Han Shuo immediately realised that his thoughts were very clear. After a moment's thought, he immediately led the battle steeds with Fanny and the others to the northern road.
With the comfort of the battle steeds, Han Shuo and company moved at an extremely fast pace. Along the way, Han Shuo encountered two swift wolf riders who had come to the northern road. The pouches on their huge wolves were bulging. Ignoring Han Shuo's crew, they were about to plunder another shop.
Coldly snorting, Han Shuo lifted the reins and ordered the battle steed beneath him to change direction and charge at the two wolf riders, who raised their long swords without a moment's hesitation.
The two wolf riders started. It seemed they hadn't thought anyone would dare to take the offensive against them. They drew back the long swords they'd been planning to use on the shopkeeper and turned their bodies, abruptly splitting up. Waving the long swords in their hands, they slashed at the rapidly approaching Han Shuo.
"Bryan, are you crazy?! Run!" Lisa, in the distance, saw that Han Shuo's battle steed had suddenly turned and ran towards the two wolf riders. She screamed in panic, drawing the attention of the necromancy students and teachers. They all involuntarily turned their heads to look in Han Shuo's direction.
With a dagger in his hand as his horse charged, Han Shuo silently chanted a magic spell and a bone arrow suddenly materialised in the air and whistled as it flew towards one of the wolf riders. As the wolf rider brandished his longsword in defence, the dagger in Han Shuo's hand was already hurtling towards the other wolf rider.
The dagger drew a cold arc of light as it sliced through the air, sinking into bone with a soft thud. The dagger had pierced through the long sword's defences, leaving a bloody hole in the wolf rider's chest. At that moment, Han Shuo's battle steed had arrived in all its haste. He clawed at the reins and the horse came to an abrupt halt amidst violent whinnies.
Han Shuo's left arm reached out and yanked the longsword from the already dead orc. Han Shuo's right hand sunk down and a bloody hole suddenly opened in the head of the agitated giant wolf. The raging giant wolf suddenly became ragged as it fell to the ground.
With a flick of his sword, the large pouch attached to the giant wolf suddenly shot out of the fallen wolf and landed directly on Han Shuo's combat boots. After that, Han Shuo's battlesteed changed direction and he charged at the other wolf rider who had just pulverised the bone arrow with a face of cold cruelty.
"Oh my, did I see wrong? Bryan just cast the bone arrow spell. What the hell is going on?" Gene yelled in shock, tugging on the reins of his battle steed. The other students also wore expressions similar to Gene's as they looked at Han Shuo as if they were meeting him for the first time.
"Damn, what is Bryan doing?" Fanny had known that Han Shuo could cast bone arrow magic, so she wasn't too surprised. What did surprise her was Han Shuo's current action of robbing the wolf riders after they had looted the shops.
