If a person expressed the attitude of wanting to kill you at any cost, then the only way for you to live was to kill them before they killed you!
Han Shuo and Florida hadn't seen eye to eye from the very beginning, and the Phoebe matter had only increased their enmity. Florida hadn't just expressed his desire to kill Han Shuo from the beginning, he had actually taken action. Han Shuo would of course not sit there and wait patiently for his death.
A day's chase had now stretched into the depths of the night. The bright moon hung high in the sky like a giant, a cold eye looking down on everything below. Strong gusts of cold wind shook the towering trees, blowing away the thick blanket of snow from the ancient branches, the falling snow whispering in the ears of the people.
Han Shuo stood in the air, holding the Demonslayer Edge in his right hand with a cold expression on his face. His gaze was stern and unemotional, like a high mountain range blocking Florida's path of hope.
Florida only had a chance to live if he could get past Han Shuo!
"If you step aside now, I promise never to fight you in the future!" Caught in the throes of a magical backlash, Florida had expended much of his energy in his desperate flight for life. His injuries were now severe, and his strength far depleted. A hint of resignation coloured his words as he looked at Han Shuo.
A charming smile was plastered across his face, but Han Shuo's laugh was as cold as an icy cave. He looked meaningfully at Florida and shook his head, "Sorry, I think your corpse is much more reassuring than your promise!"
Hearing these words, Florida knew there was no way out for him. His face darkened as he said, "My grandfather is Grand Magus Ferguson of the Church of Light! There's nothing in it for you if you become my enemy! Even if you can kill me today, my grandfather will never let you off the hook!"
Even though Florida was injured, he still tried to create the illusion of strength with these words. But for Han Shuo, with his current strength, not only was he not afraid of Florida bringing out his grandfather to threaten him, he was now even more certain that Florida had nothing left in his tank, otherwise Florida would not have wasted all this time talking to him.
"If I don't kill you today, I'll be in danger from both you and your grandfather. But if you're dead, I'll only have to face your grandfather. Therefore, go and die!" His words icy, Han Shuo prepared to kill.
A pile of stark white bones appeared under the pristine moonlight as Han Shuo chanted. Shining coldly, the bones quickly assembled into a bone prison that was three metres wide and four metres high, rapidly contracting around Florida.
With a merciless expression on his face, Han Shuo suddenly shot towards Florida as the bone prison was completely formed, moving through the night sky like lightning.
Even though his power was greatly depleted, Florida was still a light-major archmage, especially since he'd also dual-majored in thunder magic. Han Shuo had seen everything quite clearly in the distance when Florida had faced Edwin, and he knew that his strength was quite frightening.
Therefore, with Han Shuo's advantage in magic cultivation, the smartest thing for him to do was to close the distance between him and Florida. No matter how strong Florida was, Han Shuo was confident that he'd be able to kill him if he was in close range.
A major light spell suddenly exploded with Florida as its epicentre. The piercingly strong light brought with it the pure, divine power of light. The spell formed sharp waves as it crashed into the bone prison in front of him.
Lightmajor had always been a natural counter to necromancy. When the pure and divine power of Light collided with the Bone Prison, the originally gleaming white bones seemed to undergo a hundred years of corrosion as they began to crumble. The strong defences had become so brittle that they couldn't withstand even the slightest blow, and so they exploded into pieces when Florida struck hard with his staff.
Even though he'd broken out of the cage, Florida's face was even more bloodied than before. It was obvious that he'd used too much mental power and pushed his body beyond its limits. At that moment, Han Shuo suddenly appeared beside him, the Demonslayer Edge glinting with a murderous light. He slashed at Florida's neck, determined to end his life with one fatal blow.
The staff in Florida's hand suddenly exploded with white light as an enormous amount of power erupted from within. Florida hurled the staff at the Demonslayer's edge.
A metallic clang sounded as the two connected, and the Demonslayer Edge's magical Yuan imbued staff tore a large hole through Florida's staff of unknown materials. However, the power within the staff hindered Han Shuo for a moment, causing him to involuntarily falter in the air for a moment.
On the other side, frothy blood was now pouring out of Florida's mouth, running down his neck and staining his chest a bright red. His handsome face was now as pale as paper, and the blood from his mouth made him look even more terrifying. At this point, he wasn't so much flying to the Valley of Sunshine as he was waving his way there.
High-quality staffs could store some of the caster's magic and release it at critical moments. Florida's actions had obviously been that. The magical elements within the staff had acted as a catalyst to cause an explosion and make Han Shuo pause for a second.
At the fence of the valley, the Cairo Mercenaries' Deputy Chief Harris seemed to have received some sort of message and was looking in that direction with a few of his experts by his side. They'd long since seen the battle outside, but they were keeping a cool head and hadn't intervened.
Everyone in the valley knew of the enmity between the Cairo and Rainbow Sickle mercenary bands. The Cairo mercenaries were obliged to interfere as long as Florida set foot in the valley. However, the battle between Han Shuo and Florida was currently taking place outside the valley. Moreover, given Harris' hatred for the Rainbow Sickle mercenaries, he probably passionately wished for Han Shuo to kill Florida.
Pausing for a moment, Han Shuo saw that Florida was about to enter the valley. Behind him, Edwin had also reappeared. Han Shuo immediately circulated his magical yuan to the maximum and shot across the sky, leaving a trail of smoke as he headed towards Florida.
Suddenly, a fire dragon soared into the air and shot out of the valley fence towards Han Shuo. Han Shuo wanted to kill Florida, but was forced out of the way to avoid it. He first used the Dark Mist spell to create cover and then summoned a zombie to replace him in the face of the fire dragon's wrath.
Han Shuo looked down into the dark mist and noticed that a fire mage had appeared at the edge of the valley. In the distance, a rapidly approaching cavalry troop could be seen, also wearing the uniform of the Rainbow Sickle mercenaries.
"Damn it, why are they here?" Harris growled in anger.
"Chief, chief, are you all right?!" The Rainbow Sickle mercenaries immediately surrounded Florida as they approached and asked anxiously.
Still in a state of shock and fright, Florida finally breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of his own people. He turned his head to point viciously at Han Shuo, "Kill him!"
Florida's body went limp as soon as he'd finished speaking. It looked as if the trials he'd endured along the way had caused him great trauma.
The appearance of the Rainbow Sickle mercenaries made Han Shuo realise that he no longer had a chance to kill Florida. However, since Florida had fainted, Han Shuo understood that even if he hadn't died, he was still half dead. It would take him a long time to recover from this.
Han Shuo didn't wait for the Rainbow Sickle mercenaries to make their move, but shot into the valley from above and landed a few metres in front of Harris.
According to the rules of the valley, even if one had the ability to fly, one couldn't enter the valley by flying.
However, Han Shuo's earlier battle with Florida had been fully witnessed by the Cairo mercenaries. The enemy of one's enemy was a friend, so Harris not only magnanimously forgave Han Shuo's actions, but also immediately gestured for his men to form a wall in front of Han Shuo.
"I'm sorry, now that he has entered the valley, there can be no fighting in the Valley of Sunshine, or else our Cairo mercenary band will intervene!" Harris' expression was calm as he clutched his double-headed battle-axe, ready to burst into battle at a moment's notice.
Chief Florida's serious injuries were a huge blow to the Rainbow Sickle mercenaries, not only in terms of strength, but also in terms of reputation. The eyes of the mercenaries all spat fire as they looked in Han Shuo's direction, but Harris had expressed his intention to abide by the rules, so they were faced with a dilemma.
"Let's stabilise the chief's injuries first. You'll pay as soon as the chief is alright!" The fire mage who had attacked Han Shuo earlier glanced at Florida's face and suddenly opened his mouth to speak.
This person must have had a very high position within the mercenary gang, as no one else said anything after his suggestion. They all glared furiously at Han Shuo and quickly left with Florida in their care.
"Friend, you need to be more careful. Florida will not let you go so easily after he wakes up. Even though our men are patrolling all over the Valley of Sunshine, we still can't completely prevent people from making mischief. Do you know what I mean?" Harris' attitude was much warmer than the first time he'd seen Han Shuo. The cold lines on his face had softened as he spoke a word of warning to Han Shuo.
Florida's serious injuries had greatly benefited the Cairo Mercenary Band, and as Florida's rival, Han Shuo was the friend of the Cairo Mercenary Band. No wonder Harris' attitude towards Han Shuo was so friendly.
The Cairo mercenaries were patrolling the whole valley, but their energy was limited. It was impossible for them to be on the lookout all the time. When the smoking Florida woke up, he would definitely seek revenge at any cost. Even if he was in the Valley of Sunshine, he would probably choose the perfect time to make his move, so even within the Valley, Han Shuo wasn't really safe.
Nodding, Han Shuo said with a slight smile, "Thanks, it's not that easy to kill me either!"
Edwin had also made it over by this time and landed on the ground near the border. His gaze was fixed firmly on Han Shuo as he said, "I want to enter the valley, what procedures do I need to take care of?"
Han Shuo's head began to throb at these words. The arrival of such an old freak was even more of a threat to him than Florida. But the Valley of Sunshine also had its rules, and they wouldn't turn away such a god of wealth.
"Kid, your name is Bryan, isn't it? There are fewer and fewer people who can inflict injuries on my body as the years go by. I'll remember you!" Edwin rubbed his aching back as he went through the appropriate procedures. He flashed a ghastly smile at Han Shuo, the various cracks and crevices on his face scrunched together to look rather stern.
"You'd better forget about me, I don't want to see you again!" Han Shuo smiled ruefully in response and walked into the valley with a headache, thinking about how to prepare appropriate measures.
Edwin came from the Church of Calamity and had the strength of a Dark Grand Magus. He was a force to be reckoned with on the entire Profound Continent. The fact that such a character had not been killed immediately meant that he would be in almost unimaginable trouble in the future. Han Shuo was now plagued with an enormous headache and wanted to leave the valley immediately. Everything could wait until he returned to the Cemeteryof of Death through the Transportation Matrix.
The end of the night had unknowingly arrived and Emily was quite tired when Han Shuo returned to the Dark Mantle.
When she saw Han Shuo reappear in front of her, the slightly confused look in her eyes slowly cleared. She said happily, "You're all right! Have you seen Trunks?"
Nodding, Han Shuo said in surprise, "How did you know Trunks was here?"
"The Dark Mantle has a small intelligence network within the valley. Trunks entered the valley on his own shortly after you left. I know the two of you are close, so I spoke to him when he entered the valley. When he heard that Florida was making a move against you, he left immediately and rushed towards Valen City. I didn't go with him because I had to stay here and wait for news from my superiors," Emily explained.
"Elaine is dead. I fell into a trap and was almost killed!" Han Shuo sighed and sat down.
When she heard about Elaine's death, a sad expression appeared on Emily's beautiful face and she became very quiet. After a while, she sighed heavily and said quietly, "Although Big Sister Elaine didn't know how to fight, she was very capable. She'd run her little hotel in Valen City for many years and had given us valuable advice on many occasions. She helped us so much, but she's dead because of us!
If Han Shuo and Emily hadn't appeared, and if they hadn't handed Belinda over to Elaine in their haste, Elaine wouldn't have died either. Because Han Shuo didn't have a deep relationship with Elaine, he wasn't affected by any particularly tragic feelings. When he saw Emily's sad expression, he lightly patted her shoulder and spoke a few words of comfort.
Emily's mood improved as Han Shuo comforted her in a low voice. It was then that she remembered the real task at hand, "What exactly happened?"
Han Shuo recounted the events in great detail, making Emily shudder with fear as she heard of the dangerous events on this journey. She cheered for Han Shuo's escape and prayed for him during his dangerous encounters.
Still in shock from what had happened after Han Shuo had finished, Emily lifted his trouser leg to see the now clotted wound. "Don't take such risks in the future, if Belinda's arrow hadn't landed here, you would have been in great danger."
"Don't worry, if the direction of her arrow had been more dangerous, I wouldn't have sat there to be hit by it. I would have immediately moved and fled as far as possible." In the end, his actions had paid off. Edwin's back wasn't as badly injured as Florida's, but it would be enough to keep him down for some time.
"We are in trouble now. Florida is a difficult person to shake off, and now we have Edwin to deal with. He has a high position in the Calamity Church and is quite vicious and brutal. You've even hurt him, I don't know whether to be proud or worried for you! Emily sighed with a worried look on her face.
"Don't worry, if it comes to it, we can return to the cemetery of death. As long as we stay in a place where no one can find us, we'll be able to defend ourselves or attack after we set up the transportation matrix!" Han Shuo was quite optimistic as he smiled to comfort Emily.
At this time, the old man who was guarding the Dark Mantle stronghold walked over and knocked on the door, "Mistress Emily, Chief Laureton of the Cairo Mercenary Band requests that you and Master Bryan pay a visit."
"Understood, Grandpa Camby!" Emily replied easily and looked at Han Shuo. "It looks like we might have allies!"
