Prologue-The System That Got Devoured By The Feast On The Plate

Shao Qian stared blankly at the sea of stars before his eyes. When he had been killed, he binded himself to a system called 'Resurrection' in order to survive. He had completed the tasks assigned to him diligently, all in order to return to the past when he has yet to be killed, and subsequently avoiding his imminent death. Although he didn't have anything tying him to that world and wasn't reluctant to leave it, he never expected to die from some unknown cause.

For years, he had worked hard and completed his assigned tasks. Even when he was humiliated, mortified and died as a cannon fodder in those so-called novel worlds, he never had the thought of giving up on returning to his original world. After all, right now all he had was that mere goal to strive towards, nothing else.

The result? After he completed all his tasks, the system had unexpectedly drawn upon its own energy and was intending on devouring him. He would be resurrected if he completed the tasks? Those were simply the system's deceptive words. What it had truly wanted was for him to travel across various, different worlds and complete all kinds of tasks, allowing his soul to grow much more enticing and delicious.

The so-called system was exactly like a glutton, except with taste buds of a higher level. As ordinary souls were no longer able to satisfy it, the system gathered souls and tossed them into various worlds it believed could he used for seasoning – similar to the act of stir-frying for flavour. It would wait until the 'heat' was sufficient and when it felt that the gathered souls were 'tasty' enough, it would enjoy its feast.

However, after Shao Qian had passed through countless of worlds, he gradually began to feel that the system's true purpose wasn't as simple as it looked and had secretly raised is guard against it. Therefore when the system had trapped him within the sea of stars to devour him, he had already prepared a method to drag the system down along with himself. But he never imagined that the one who survived would be him.

No, it wasn't that he had survived. Unknowingly, the him who was undoubtedly heading towards his death, had somehow devoured half of the system instead. Examining the system's menu, he discovered that its appearance had changed. There were no longer anymore loathsome tasks, nor were there anymore red fonts that would pop out to threaten him from time to time.

Lifting his right hand up, Shao Qian noticed a pattern on the back of it. He let out a bitter laugh. The system probably never expected that in the end, it would be devoured by its own food instead.

However, now that he had devoured the system, what should he do? After going through this sort of situation, he didn't really have much thoughts on returning to his world. As for the other worlds…

As he had been killed in every world, he didn't have much of a favorable impression towards them. There was a time when he had even thought that if he ever got the chance, he would definitely take revenge on those so-called male and female leads…

Eh? Shao Qian thought about his current situation seriously. Although he was currently a soul, he was also half-system at the same time. Moreover, he was able to decipher a piece of information from the strings of data within the system after devouring it: A system seemed to require energy. No wonder the system always forced those tasks onto him.

Though, since he had nothing better to do at the moment, should he return to those worlds where he had done those tasks and take revenge on those people who gave him past grievances?

He took his newly formed idea into consideration. All the worlds had been mapped out by the system before. And although it was just half of what it had been after being devoured, the coordinates of those worlds fortunately still remained. Though he wanted to cross over to another world, there was a problem with his energy. He was naturally clear about the fact that his body's current energy was barely enough to cross into a single world after he devoured the system. However, he simply needed to rest for some time before he could cross over into another world.

Sitting cross-legged within the sea of stars, he began smoothing out the disordered soul energy within him. And gradually, the body of his soul that had been full of bumps and holes after he devoured the system, returned back to normal due to his slowly recovering soul energy. Sensing the abundant soul power within him, Shao Qian revealed a rare smile.

At this moment, he could somewhat understand why the system had been so obsessed with gathering energy. His soul was filled with energy, to the point that it felt like it was overflowing, causing him to feel satisfied and unparalleled in the world.

Shao Qian stayed within the sea of stars for a while to regulate his energy. When he woke from his daze however, his pair of eyes were without spark as he stared at the twinkling sea of stars before him. After a moment, they regained their previous vigor.

He kept feeling as if something had left him, to the extent where he felt as if he was missing a part of his soul. It was like… It was like something very important had left him.

This overpowering and uncontrollable feeling caused him to feel unwell. His chest ached dully, as if something had been gouged out from his heart.

In the end, Shao Qian couldn't figure out what happened. After waiting until he felt better, he reached towards a speck of light conveniently floating by his side and left the sea ofa stars.
