Chapter 23

The group of 3 entered the establishment and Lin rented a room for themselves as they entered it. It was quite spacious as they made themselves comfortable, well, as comfortable as the two girls could be with a man who was known to have been dead for over a year.

Wen sat on a couch while the girls sat on a couch opposite him as they looked at him. Yan has a nervous expression on her face as she looked down. Meanwhile Lin has a slightly nervous expression as she looked at Wen.

"So, it has been a year since we last talked." Lin said to him a bit nervously.

"I guess. My life is going fine now. It has improved." Wen said with a shrug of his shoulders.

"I see. But, how are you alive Wen?" Lin asked him curiously.

"It's Chen. We're not close anymore Lin. So I would appreciate it if you would call me by my family name." Wen said to her seriously.

"Ah, right." Lin said surprised when she heard that.

'I guess what he is telling is the truth. He is not my husband anymore.' Lin thought to herself as she looked at him.

"Sorry, Chen, how are you alive? I had attended your burial and I was sure that your body didn't have any life energy so how are you in front of me?" Lin asked him curiously.

"First off, you seem as spry as I remember Lin. Second of all, I have no obligation to disclose the circumstances behind my revival." Wen said to her with his arms crossed.

Yan flinched while Lin looked at him before looking down as she sighed.

"I know. I... wasn't the best wife and my family also treated you quite badly. And I was also very unfair when I demanded the divorce. I'm sorry about that." Lin said to him as she looked at him.

Wen looked at her and kept his gaze on her as she looked at him back. Yan looked between the two nervously, not knowing what to do or say as she was beyond nervous at this point.

"Well, if you truly regret your actions then I am willing to not hold them against you. But as for the reason why I am alive. That is something that I'm not going to divulge." Wen said to her firmly.

"Fine. It's not like I can force you to reveal it." Lin said a bit disappointed.

"So, you attended my funeral?" Wen asked her with a raised eyebrow.

"Yes. I went there when I learned about the event. You can ask your sister about that." Lin said to him with a nod as she gestured to Yan.

"Did she participate?" Wen asked his sister simply.

"Yes. She participated." Yan said to him with a nod.

"Right." Wen said before he closed his eyes.

He thought about his funeral and about how it would've hypothetically went before he opened his eyes and looked at the two women in front of him.

"How many people did come to my funeral?" Wen asked the two seriously and also a bit curious.

"Not... many. Aside from our family and Lin, there were only a few people who had come to the funeral." Yan said a bit hesitantly.

"Is there anything else?" Wen asked her bluntly.

"No." Yan said with her head down.

"How did our parents react when they heard about my death?" Wen asked her seriously.

"They..." Yan said hesitantly.

"Let me guess, they were disappointed that their useless son died due to drinking too much alcohol and were utterly disgusted by me." Wen said to her calmly.

"What?" Yan and Lin said surprised when they heard that.

They couldn't believe that those were the words that were coming out of his mouth as he was usually someone who was always optimistic.

"What? They would always say that I was a useless son who couldn't do a simple thing. It was further cemented when I wasn't able to get any kind of job after divorcing with Lin." Wen said to them calmly.

"Th-They may have said that but..." Yan said to him as she trembled slightly.

"And what about your family? I'm sure your husband was ecstatic when he learned that I had died alongside your family as well." Wen said to Lin with his arms crossed.

"That's... entirely not false." Lin said knowing that lying won't help her with this Wen.

Her family was quite happy when they heard that as they had said that he deserved it. Not to mention how her new husband was quite happy and pleased to learn that the plebeian was finally dealt a righteous hand.

She will admit that she didn't like it as he was still her ex-husband and she did care for him. The only thing was that she cared more about her own family than her husband.

"Chen, when I had asked you about getting you a job under me. Why did you refuse all of them even when you were in such a difficult situation?" Lin asked him trying to change the subject to something she would be comfortable with.

"It was because of your involvement with my inability to get any kind of jobs." Wen said to her calmly.

"Pardon? What do you mean by that?" Lin asked surprised.

Yan was also surprised from hearing him as she looked at the older girl in confusion.

"After I divorced you I had been trying to get a job for myself in the city. But no matter what place I request to get a job for, I was always rejected. When I had asked about why they were doing that, they simply replied that if was because you had told them to." Wen said as he eyes Lin.

Lin's eyes widened as her jaw dropped at his words as she couldn't believe her own eyes at the things that he had just told her. Yan also sported the same face as she was also shocked and confused at his words.

"I, I never did anything like that." Lin said utterly confused.

"Is that so? I asked many companies and they had said almost the same thing. "It was because of Xiao Lin". They had been told by you to not give me any kind of job and they did as they were told." Wen said to her with a neutral look.

"I..." Lin said shocked at his words.

"Do you two remember that video which ruined my reputation?" Wen asked them with the same calm he had displayed until now.

"Yes. What about it?" Both woman said to him at that as they didn't want to remember the video that had lead to his downfall.

"Well, as it turns out. Your new husband Zhang Huan was involved as he was present when I had gone there." Wen said to the two of them seriously as he revealed the key information.
