A Mother's Tears

"Elijah, you're our only son. What would your sister and we do if something happened to you? Our family isn't as wealthy as others. Who will take care of us when we're old? And if your sister gets married and is bullied, she'll have no one to turn to. What are we supposed to do?" Elijah Martinez's mother burst into tears as she spoke. 

Lying in bed, Elijah's eyes also filled with tears. 

He knew he should listen to his parents and consider their feelings, but how could he stand by when the person he loved was kidnapped and he had the power to save her? 

He couldn't live with himself if he didn't try to rescue her; the regret would haunt him for life.

"Elijah, are you trying to kill me? Do you want me dead before you'll stop putting yourself in danger?" His mother's sudden outburst filled the hospital room with her cries.
