The Mysterious Healing Ritual for Dad's Eyes

In the second year of junior high school, one night, my dad said his eyes were stinging, and it seemed like an illness. He couldn't open his eyes, and when he did, they would tear up and sting. He asked my mom to give him anti-inflammatory injections and put various anti-inflammatory eye drops, but it didn't work. Eventually, he went to the hospital.

But the ophthalmologist at the hospital said there was nothing wrong with my dad's eyes. They couldn't find any specific cause for his symptoms despite conducting various tests. So they advised my dad to return home. My dad asked me to take charge of the family and look after my mom. He was desperate, fearing he might go blind.

I had a feeling that everything would be alright, and I reassured my dad that he would get better. My mom and younger brother were crying as if their tears were inexhaustible. My grandmother came over and wondered if someone had cast a spell or poisoned my dad. But the hospital's tests didn't show any poisoning.

My mom was at a loss, so she asked my dad for his opinion. He reluctantly agreed to perform a religious ritual. He told my mom to stay calm, and I noticed my grandmother muttering some words. She placed rice, pomelo leaves, cypress leaves, and incense on a tray. We offered incense and burned a bowl of white rice.

We cleansed the house and cast away any evil spirits by throwing rice all over the house. We threw some rice far outside under a large carambola tree. Then, we lit incense and burned joss paper. After that, my dad's eye pain was relieved, and the next day, he was fine.

He went for a follow-up at the hospital, and the doctor found it quite strange but said he had recovered. However, they still couldn't identify the exact cause. After about a month, his eye problems resurfaced, but in addition to medications, my grandmother performed the ritual again. My dad also drank water with a blessing symbol, and his eye pain was gone by noon. It was truly miraculous, and he hasn't had any eye issues in the past decade.
