The angels had three ways to get their titles. It could be given to them from the humans, from their roles, or in extremely rare cases it could be granted to them by the God of the Bible himself.
Kokabiel was the Angel of the Stars, a title granted to him by his father for the array of light he could create in the sky. Rias had underestimated that title. She believed that her power of destruction could crush all opposition.
"How many are there Akeno?!" Rias shouted in exasperation, a wall of destruction covering the sky above them and sapping away her demonic energy. The Power of Destruction was powerful but to not destroy everything around her was more strenuous than somebody would assume.
"Was I supposed to count?" Akeno shouted back, even her elegant expression somewhat tainted with worry. Kokabiel was insane, that much was obvious when he began talking about war, but he was strong. Overwhelmingly so.
"Haha! You're all so weak! Die and become the spark of a new world!" Kokabiel shouted as millions of spears of light fell onto them. In terms of pure power, he was far beneath both of them but his momentum was unstoppable.
In physical combat he used their allies as shields, in ranged combat he barraged them with weak but numerous attacks. It was like a rat fighting cats and winning because it had eons of experience.
"Are the rest gone?" Rias asked, cold sweat on her brow as she watched her barrier begin to wager. It wasn't from the power or number of the attacks it was only because she was getting tired. It wouldn't take long for it to fall.
The battle had raged on for well over an hour and now they were the only ones left. Rias didn't have a healing specialized member on standby so they were out of the fight completely. Their wounds weren't horrible but they weren't in any condition to continue.
"Yes, and I've requested backup from Sona. She can't spare much but she's prepared to send over her trump card." Akeno replied unsurely, lightning arcing across her fingers before flying toward Kokabiel who dodged it with ease.
"Trump card…" Rias murmured softly. She didn't know Sona had a trump card, it was certainly unlike her. Sona believed in skillful usage of her peerage which was far from relying on one single person or thing to achieve victory.
"It's a last resort." Sona's voice echoed out from the magic circle between the two. "If he's released the school will vanish and most of Kuoh will join it. Unless Damian or an equivalent is here, it's too dangerous."
"Ok. We'll take care of it but be ready just in case." Rias requested with a determined sigh as she turned toward her Queen. "Akeno, could you defend us for a few minutes?" The red haired princess inquired solemnly.
"For about two minutes." Akeno replied with a grimace. Lightning was far from the most ideal element to defend with, its intangible state of being and predisposition to move freely made it especially bad at it.
"That's more than enough." Rias declared, her barrier vanishing as spears crashed all around them like falling stars. In an instant, an extremely dense barrier of yellow lightning stood where destruction once was.
Raising her hands, Rias created a small ping pong ball sized ball of destruction, its surface not crimson but instead pitch black. It was incredibly dense, enough so that blood escaped from her palm just from holding it above her. It was a miniature black hole.
Removing her left hand from the mix the sphere shivered but ultimately kept its shape, the rotation she had added assisting greatly. With one hand freed she destroyed space between her and her target destination, appearing above Kokabiel instantly.
Spears of light pierced her flesh, her skin burning upon contact as she winced in pain. Yet she ignored it, merely dropping the ball of condensed destruction. It flowed slowly, yet in the view of everyone else it dropped at the speed of light itself.
Time itself was warped in their eyes, the sheer density deforming the ever constant flow of time and bending space itself. Nobody could see it move. Nobody except Rias Gremory. She couldn't move but she could see it, she could see it moving.
'Is this… the domain?' She questioned herself as she stood in what was essentially stopped time. It felt as though she had broken chains that were holding her down, it almost felt like she could run faster than light and jump up to the moon. She felt free.
"Not exactly. It's incomplete, shoddy work. Though, I suppose that's more telling about me than you isn't it?" The familiar collage of voices she had only heard once before resounded through her mind, a small pink spot occurring in the corner of her eyes.
'That voice… it's Damian's.' Trying her hardest to turn toward the pink dot she had no luck, her eyes firmly trapped upon the slowly dropping sphere. There were hundreds of voices speaking at once but the 'main' voice was identical to Damian's own albeit happier.
"You've got it backward. His voice is mine. But that's beside the point. Your little lover boy is going to come back all warm and fuzzy, it's your job to keep him that way you hear me? And tell him that he doesn't need the crown. I'll take care of it." The voice commanded almost lazily.
"Wait what? What crown?!" Rias shouted aloud, finally able to move in the domain of her own will. Turning her head she didn't see a person but instead a fading pink sphere flicking in nonexistent wind.
"Sorry, no time. Tell the kid, I'm proud of him and that he's already surpassed me. That dragon heart idea was pretty damn good. Shame it wasn't possible in my time. Oh yeah, tell him to bring me some sweet treats if he finds me. Thanks~." The voice requested before fading away.
"You had plenty of time!" Rias shouted angrily as her attack finally struck Kokabiel, the age old Fallen instantly turning into nothing more than ash. At least, that was what she had assumed would have happened.
