Night in the slums was not safe, not in the slightest. Many dangers lurked in the shadows and dark alleyways were present at every turn. Although it was usually referred to as a lawless place, something like that was far from the truth. There was a single law people respected and it was the curfew. Even if it wasn't an actual law, people knew better than to break it. Even bars and casinos offered accommodations for their guests during night time, as even most delinquents were afraid of going out at such hours.
The sole exception to this was the main streets, those that headed directly to the city gates. Despite that, a small girl walked under the dim light of the streetlights just after sunset, far from the main avenue, far from safety, inside one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the whole city.
