He was only half right…
The out-of-control car was redirected to where my brother was standing. The girl got pulled back up onto the sidewalk. At that moment, only Taka remained on the road. The speed of the car and the inertia on it made Taka fly back many meters. When he landed, his head landed onto the hard road.
Despite the misfortune, there was also some luck. The car stopped before it ran over his unconscious body. Screams resounded throughout the area. All the eyes were fixed upon Taka. I had no idea what to do. I did not know how long I was standing there, stunned. My senses came back when I was trying to get to my brother’s body and was stopped by a police officer’s arms.
I called his name countless times. No matter how loud I screamed, no matter how many times…Taka did not respond.
He was taken to the nearest hospital. The operation took hours. Finally, the doctor came out of the operating room. What he said hit us hard, but it gave us hope.
