Dragon Tears

Secrets. We all keep them. Some tend to protect us from harm. Others tend to lead us to it. While Kayda’s secret is one that haunts her. Kayda isn’t human. She never was. All her life, she knew that. The words thrown at her and the fear filled gazes that watched her showed just how much of a monster she was. But she isn’t what those people think she is either. She’s kept her fair amount of secrets hidden. And she intended to keep them, until her barriers we torn down. Kayda has already had her lifetimes worth of pain and misery along with those secrets she keeps. She spent so long fighting, so long trying to survive, that one day, she finally snapped. Her sanity was shredded by the creatures called humans. She was torn down piece by piece to be used as entertainment slowly corroding away what once was her mind. Only to be built back up again to repeat the gruesome process. So she finally gave up. Now, she is nothing but a beast. At least, that’s what she portrays to be. And she would have continued to play her part as the feral pet, but what happens when Dimitri appears? A cold and calculative man, who appeared in what she thought would be her last moments. A man who seemed to have even more secrets then even her, but was still able to show a side of himself that even she had lost. He was ruthless, cold blooded, calculative, and even, warm? So what happens when he’s out on a mission and meets a creature he quickly wants to dismiss? A creature that he had no interest in until he met her eyes. How exactly is Dimitri going to carefully piece Kayda back together again? And how is Kayda going to react to the unfamiliar kindness shown by a stranger? What’s his motive? ———————- “So, your saying, that because you saved me from death, I’m now in your debt?” Kayda was intrigued but at the same time annoyed, seeing the charming tilt in Dimitri’s lips. And as she stared, Dimitri reveled in her gaze. “You could say that.” His mischievous voice didn’t go unnoticed and Kayda felt a slight twitch at the corner of her lip. With a glow in her eyes, she walked up to Dimitri who was staring her down. “I’ll repay a favor. But I’ll never be in your debt.” Slamming a hand down, she growled. “The Goddess wanted me dead for a reason. You’re lucky I don’t show you why.” Dimitri grinned with amusement when suddenly, his hand snaked its way around her waist. “Even the Goddess can’t take you away from me.” He whispered. ————————————- ‘The cover was not made, and is not owned by me. : Low Born Verman

Maggy had introduced that maid to her the day they met.

She was the maid responsible for cleaning the guest hallway. If she ever needed anything, Maggy told her to find the maid when she couldn't find her.

But she never needed anything so that was the last time she saw that maid.

Tilting her head, Kayda held her chin. Thinking hard about their introduction.

What was her name again?

Amy? Alice? Ariana? No no no. What was it?

While pondering, the woman in red sneered as she started screeching at the poor maid once again about her ruined clothes and who's service she served under at the residence demeaning her between every breath.

When the maid looked up, she looked into the crowd. Her eyes pleading for help, but everyone turned away.

Kayda, still deep in thought, just couldn't remember her name. What was it? She knew it started with an A…

Ah ha! It was Aylin!

Right when she remembered the name, her eyes met Aylin's.

Her big hazel gaze pleaded with her with unshed tears and an uneven face swollen with fright.

She held onto her eyes for a little too long and the woman in red followed Aylin's gaze.

Searching through the crowed, she found a small and pathetic looking little rugrat with pale skin and a scratch etching the side of her cheek with dried blood.

She looked like a sewer rat to her with her skinny and malnourished build and twiny silver hair that barely reached her shoulders.

She sneered. With an immaculately painted fingernail, she pointed to Kayda.

Distain carried in the sneer of her lips.

"You! Does this ingrant serve under you?" She segregated her from the crowd, causing all eyes to land upon her.

Kayda didn't react to the obvious isolation she was putting her in by arrogantly pointing her out like that.

She had dealt with such hauty and callous nobles before. With an obvious superiority complex like that of a five year old having toys and clothes that others did not.

Honestly, now, to her it just seemed like a serious case of immaturity that people had unfortunately not grown out of and decided to base their personality around.

Kayda just ignored the overly pompous noble lady and looked at Aylin. She stared at Kayda with desperate pleading eyes, acting like she was her only source of hope.

"Aylin," Kayda was expressionless, but when Aylin heard her name pass through her lips, she allowed herself to hope that maybe she could save her.

"Go find Maggy and get that treated."

Aylin quickly nodded and ran off at the speed of light like a little mouse with a screeching cat on its tail.

The noble lady was immediately irked by the obvious disregard the Kayda was showing her!

With the clack of her heels, she stomped up to stand in front of Kayda with her polished nail pointing directly at her nose.

"How dare you dismiss that uncouth maid! Do you know who I am?! I can get you immediately kicked out of this residence for the obvious disrespect you have shown me you gutter rat!" Her shrill and high pitched voice made Kayda want to scratch at her ears.

Indifferent, Kayda looked directly at the noble woman and inspected every inch of her face.

Her pale face was covered by an excessive amount of makeup. With slightly upturned eyes and plump lips, she looked just like a prostitute.

With her high cheekbones and sharp nose, Kayda thought she could make it pretty far if she went into the red light industry. Even better if she used the sultry voice of hers to pillow talk those zealous rich douches.

Kayda's silence and dissecting gaze made the noble woman uneasy. When she still didn't get a response, the atmosphere became awkward as the servants' quiet mutters could be heard.

Unwilling to tolerate it, she screamed in Kayda's face. "Are you mute as well as deaf!?"

She inflated her arrogance and once again regained her royal and conceited image.

Kayda seemed to snap out of a daze.

"Oh, sorry." Hearing Kayda apologize, she became hubristic and was about to continue demeaning her when Kayda cut her off right before she could speak.

"I was just wondering that if you were to sneeze, would it cause a fog or a cloud." Immediately there were snickers in the crowd.

The noble lady was obviously wearing a lot of makeup to make her complexion paler and more delicate.

Others had noticed the excessive powder on her face but no one dared to even think of whispering about it because of her heinous personality.

But once Kayda had so obviously pointed it out while she still had her mouth open like a gaping fish, some of the servants that had been punished by her before couldn't help but give a muffled snicker.

The noble lady's face immediately turned monstrous as her eyes burned with bloodlust. A woman's appearance and makeup were a taboo subject. But this uncultured verman dared to embarrass her in front of the servants of this eminent estate. It could only be described as mortifying.

She had never been treated this way before.

Raising her hand, she wanted to immediately shred apart that detached expression from her pale and small face.

Before her hand could make contact with her skin, a large and calloused palm grabbed her wrist in a vice like grip.

With her eyes blazing with bloodlust, she glared dangerously at the owner of the hand that had dared to touch her.

Micheal face was cold and hard. His bright and cheery eyes held no warmth as they glared fiercely at the over confident lady before him.

"Miss Bonneret. I must remind you that you are no longer within your own estate, and offending a guest of the archduke is offending the archduke himself." His voice was frosty.

Lavinia Bonneret cringed as she looked at the hand holding her wrist. With a sneer, she slapped away his hand.

With a snap, her personal maid ran forward and handed her a handkerchief.

Wiping her wrist, she sneered at Micheal. "Vice captain O'Mally. I'll heed your warning this time. But you're nothing but a dirty rat just like your friend here. Low born vermin such as yourselves should know your place."

Dropping the handkerchief on the ground like it was a piece of filth, she stormed off with her personal maid tailing behind her.

"Everyone!" Micheal shouted as he clapped his hands. "Back to work!"

With that, all the servants on the scene dispersed.
