Chapter 6

A/N - 1178 words

"Well here I am again" Kenric muttered as he walked through the Gallows of Kirkwall seeing the Templars that had gathered to greet the incoming seekers, it was rare for seekers to come to a Templar outpost considering the number of seekers against that of the number of templar orders, there simply weren't enough of them to be stationed everywhere.

It had to be said in terms of sheer size, Ostwick was incomparable to Kirkwall was Huge walls that climbed the cliff with internal tunnels that dug in to ease the travel from the top to the bottom. The giant chains hanging from the coast could block ships that wanted to enter the harbour, a defence mechanism to keep the invaders out similar to the double walls of Ostwick, a densely populated trade city that severed the connection between the northern kingdoms with the southern kingdom across the Waking sea.

Kenric felt the slight sting on his back as he shook his head, he didn't want to remember it.

"Oi geezer you told me that we will be staying here since you have some work to do, can't you just have someone else stay with you," Kenric spoke as they walked in,

"Who is my student?"

"Me"

"That answers your question"

"But..." Kenric wanted to argue but Darius just raised his hand as Kenric quieted down, even though he could feel where he was allowed to push.

And this wasn't where he could do that,

Aldren was all too aware of what was going on between the Mentor and his student but he had decided to stay out of this as he walked forward towards the old man standing in classic Templar armor,

Knight Commander Guylian, Kenric recognized him quite easily.

"I must apologise for the lack of welcome, High seeker." He spoke with a smile as Aldren just smiled,

"Not a problem, Commander we were just passing through but seeker Darius and his student would like to stay here for a few days," Aldren spoke as he turned to gesture towards Darius and Kenric.

"Of course, it would be a pleasure to have you here" Guylian spoke as he looked at the two before pausing as he looked at Kenric.

Darius stepped in before things could go further.

"Darius Wallenas and this is my student Kenric Trevelyan" Darius spoke as a spark flashed in the knight commander's eyes as he understood why the latter felt familiar.

"Of course, Meredith would help you with your stay here." He spoke looking at the blonde-haired woman, with striking blue eyes who too was looking at Kenric before nodding towards the knight commander.

"Knight-captain Meredith, it is a pleasure to meet you seeker Darius please you would follow me to the guest quarters," she spoke as Darius nodded towards Aldren before tapping Kenric on the shoulder and walking behind the knight captain.

"I don't want to question your methods high seeker but are you sure that having him here of all places would be a good idea?" Guylian couldn't help but ask as Aldren shrugged.

"maybe, maybe not but he will have to face it someday," Aldren spoke, making Guylian shake his head.

"If we had been more alert things wouldn't have turned out like that,"

"It was something that couldn't be helped just covering such an incident was more than what we could do at that time," Aldren spoke as Guylian hesitated before taking a step back.

"Please inform me if there is anything you might need"

"Of course"

'Should I ask him?' Meredith thought as she saw Kenric entering his room, though they had been kept away from what had happened by Guylian there were rumours about the time when the Bann had gone on a rampage against the high-ranking Templars and seekers.

But the incident had been hushed up, but she was sure it involved Kenric, as it had been just a day after her promotion that the raids in lowtown had picked up to the point that there hadn't been a single place they had overlooked.

and it had stopped only a month later, with many false prosecutions and arrests as the tensions between the Thernhold and the Templar order reached an all-time high.

Meredith hesitated, no matter what he had been selected as a seeker candidate personally travelling with the high seeker, so prying something could backfire on her. She hesitated before leaving.

The Trevelyan was here for a few days, she could get it out during that time.

Before that, she had to deal with those old mages trying to ask for exemptions and relaxations on the templar watch.

Hopefully, Guylian wouldn't interfere like always to keep things as they were.

Mages needed to be curbed, having them free would only invite disasters.

It was late evening when Kenric stepped out of his room, hesitating lightly before closing it.

He couldn't just sit there to avoid the problem no matter how much he wanted to avoid it. He decided to head for the training grounds maybe swinging his swords would clear his head.

'We shall not fail with such powerful blood~' Kenric shook his head as the words rang in his head it had been five years it was about time that he moved forward.

He descended the steps heading right at the training field, a rectangular field with training equipment, duling rings, and training dummies.

Kenric breathed in, as it felt similar to how it was back at Ostwick as he placed his swords on the side and picked up two wooden swords of similar weight and size.

Tak...TAK ATAK TAK TAK!

He started attacking the training dummies as the attacks echoed through the field, things started to fade out in his mind as his attacking speed increased,

thud.

thuk

thuk thud

He didn't know how long it was before he felt a different impact looking up he found a sword blocking his, as he stared at the blonde who had stopped his sword.

"Your hands are bleeding sir Kenric" she spoke as Kenric looked at his palm that had started bleeding due to the constant attacks, he was drenched in sweat his muscles aching.

"Thanks for the help there, I just wanted to clear my head" Kenric spoke as Meredith nodded pulling back as Kenric did the same looking at the woman.

She seemed like she was in her late to mid-twenties, with sharp eyes and ambition behind them her physique not being able to hide the strength in her as even without the armor someone would hesitate.

Looking at the destroyed dummy she raised an eyebrow, "that doesn't look like clearing the head to me"

"well clearing a load"

"I don't know what had happened..." she was still saying that when the two of them were interrupted by Guylian.

"Meredith can we talk for a minute" he spoke as Meredith looked at the commander before nodding who for sure knew what had happened.

"I will see you later" Kenric spoke as she smiled at him before heading over to her commander
