CHAPTER THIRTY

I woke up on the couch completely drenched in sweat, the leather stuck to my body like glue, I looked around, I was completely alone.

Confused, I sat up, and noticed a note on the glass coffee table and picked it up to read.

"Dear Colby, I went to work but I'll be back later, make sure to eat something, I love you."

I sighed, and put down the letter, the thought of her eight months pregnant and still on her feet all day upset me.

'It should be me out there working instead of her, but we have enough money for everything we would need for the twins so I don't understand why she continues to work.'

I got up off the couch and walked to the bathroom, and looked into the mirror.

My hair was way past my ears at this point, my eyes were sunken in and my skin was pale.

That's what you get for sleeping for almost a year though I guess.

I yawned and turned on the tap to the sink as water poured out I let my hand go underneath as the hot water slowly burned my skin.

I cupped the water with my hands and brought my face closer to the sink, and washed away the sleep from my tired eyes.

Without looking I reached for a towel that was placed on a hanging bar, to dry my face with.

It smelled like Chloe, the sweet scent of body wash and the scent of her skin.

I didn't want to let her go yesterday, I wanted to show her just how much I've missed her in my time of the coma.

I remembered now yelling at her and remembering what Jason had said, she came to see me almost every day just to tell me how her day went.

I feel like such an ass hole.

A flash back to the time on the beach our bodies were all tangled together and her soft moans that came from her lips, the ring on her finger when I asked her to marry me a second time.

The forgotten drinks that surprisingly didn't spill when we made love.

The towel still against my face I placed back where I found it and went back to the living room, to mugs of coffee; I'm guessing one decaffeinated.

I picked them up and found my way to the kitchen, I went and turned on the taps, picked up the dish sponge and put some dish soap and finished the rest of the dishes.

I'm going to have to get a new phone since mine is nowhere to be found, not that it mattered anyway since the people that mattered to me are still in close proximity.

Suddenly I remembered that the suitcase of money was still around somewhere, my eyes were directed to the closet by the bathroom and went to open it.

Lord and behold that's where the money lies, I picked up the suitcase and opened it, it seemed Chloe was telling the truth about not using any of it.

It looked as if money was even added to the suitcase.

"Was she saving even more money?" I asked myself out loud.

Chloe's P.O.V

I unlocked the door and walked into a room that had thousands of dollars all over as Colby was counting it.

"Hey, what are you doing?" He placed the money on the table and looked up at me from where he sat on the couch.

"Do you have any idea how much money was in this suitcase?" He asked putting his hand through his hair.

I shook my head, I never had a reason to count all of it before.

"Six, hundred, thousand dollars." He says raising his voice.

"Is there some missing?" I'm not understanding what hes upset by was there money missing from it I thought I added a lot more to it.

"No, there was five grand extra." He says raising her voice a little.

"I don't understand, are you mad?" I asked slowly.

"A little but not for what you'd think," he says more gently.

"I really don't like you being on your feet all day, and you must have saved every paycheck you have earned," he says standing up now.

"Yeah, I needed the money.." I say trailing off.

"For what, you have all the money you need right here," he says, waving his arms around the room as he raises his voice, making me shy away.

"I'm sorry, just come here for a second...please?" He says softly now, looking more vulnerable than he did when he was in his coma.

I hesitatingly walked over to him as he wrapped his arms around me gently, he kissed the top of my head as he held me close.

"I'm sorry, it's just that it's my responsibility to take care of you, and our growing family," Colby dropped his hands to my stomach now caressing me gently.

I looked up at him as his face was contorted in sadness and anger, not towards me but himself.

"It's not your fault, Colby." I say in a whisper, he laid his head on my shoulder.

"-but it is though, I put us in that situation." Colby whimpered against my neck as he pulled me closer.

"-But I did okay, we are okay, you are okay and that alone makes me happy," I say tearing up.

He sniffled and looked up at me and his sea filled eyes were filled with tears.

"I," he began.

"Sh, I have you, you're okay now." I whispered.

Colby's P.O.V

She wiped away my tears as I hiccupped on her shoulder.

'This, this is the love I've been craving for so long, of course Chloe was the one who would give it to me.' I thought to myself, now beroughing into her shoulder, I wanted to stay like this forever for once as I remember I feel whole.

A few minutes passes and the front door squeaked open, I held Chloe closer I'm not ready to let go of her yet.

"Heyy, guys." Hayley slurred stumbling inside.

"A-are you drunk?" Chloe questioned now letting me go.

I sighed and got up from her embrace.

"N-no," Hayley says, darting her eyes away from us and throwing her keys down on the table.

"Uh-huh, sure." Chloe says rolling her eyes.

"I'm," she hiccups. "Not," she added.

"What are we doing for dinner, also I have to go meet Jason in an hour," Chloe says looking at her new phone.

"Jason, why?" I questioned as jealousy filled me.

"To talk about what we found out last night." She says with a sigh.

"Oh, right I forgot," I say awkwardly.

"Are you still coming with me?" She asked looking at me.

"Of course I'll," I got cut off.

"Woah, why is there cash all over the apartment, did you guys rob a bank or somethin'," she hiccups again.

"No this the money Colby had saved." Chloe sighs.

"Oh," she says giggling, while staggering to the kitchen.

"Who'd you get drunk with anyway?" Chloe asked, raising an eyebrow.

Hayley leaned out the door way as she answered.

"It's a secret," she replies with a wink and disappears back into the kitchen.

"Is she normally coming home like this?" I asked, snickering.

"No, but she deserves to have some fun; having me around all the time tends to be overbearing at times, you know living with a pregnant woman all the time," Chloe explained laughing.

"Oh, shush, you know I love you!" She hollered out her mouth obviously filled with salt topped crackers as she came out and sat on the sofa.

"Yes, yes I know all that," Chloe said laughing while shaking her head.

"What time are we meeting Jason?" I asked, putting my hands in my front pockets.

She looked at her phone again and muttered something under her breath.

"Shit, no time for dinner. We have to be there in half an hour." Chloe replies with a sigh.

"Why don't we just get something on our way?" I asked.
