Douluo Dalu: Martial Path

In the world of Douluo Dalu, being a Soul Master is an occupation. A title above normal mortals. Yet, despite the power and numerous other abilities one would gain as they thread the path of a Spirit Master, they were no different from a normal mortal. They would still die to natural causes and a spirit master didn't have a longer lifespan than a mortal, except when they reach the limits of a spirit master but they could only live by twice or thrice the lifespan of a mortal still. Just what was good being a spirit master? Especially if one can easily kill them by the hands of either technology or natural causes? They weren't much different from a mortal. That was what Feng Qin had come to a conclusion as he turned twelve, six years after awakening an unknown trash Martial Spirit. But, on a fateful day, one single lucky moment as he had just survive from a life and death situation, changed his life forever. ... AN: Hey it's yo boi, FroztDouluo back with another Douluo Dalu fanfic! And this time, it's a concept that I've taken inspirations from Martial World(just read the story since it's a prequel to True Martial World, my favorite story and one I'm hoping to make a fanfic of someday), True Martial World, Tales of Demons and Gods, God of Slaughter, etc. I really hope I can make this story great and won't eventually turn me off. Cause my last few stories were great in plotlines at the start but it had eventually gone downhill due to several reasons.(Mainly laziness, writer's block, and school.) So, I'm going to clarify a few things and reveal a couple spoilers. One, there will be some oc other than the mc in this story. Most of them would come from other stories that I had previously mentioned or you guys can help me create some of them through comments. Two, I prioritize pa-treon more than here so if you notice me being late to update than it must mean I was either busy writing more chapters in pa-treon or I'm resting from the exhaustion of it. Three, the update schedule is 2-3 chapters a week with at least 1k words. Chapters are uploaded in Wednesday and Friday/Saturday(UTC +8, Philippine time). Four, I will try to reply to most of the comments I see but don't count much, cause I don't really reply very well because I just don't know what to write back. I just hope it'll get to a hundred, or two, chapters before I drop it, or not? It depends on life really. And positive comments and reviews, I don't really care much of power stones(tho, that doesn't mean you can't...) but positive feedback on my work really inspires me more to write. Want to check out my pa-treon and be ahead of your fellow WN kin? Well here's the link: pa–treon.com/FroztDouluo *Just get rid of the dash.

Chapter 40: Ice Witch Douluo

"...Is this really a battle between a Spirit Elder and a Spirit Scholar?" Cang Yuyue uttered, dumbfounded by what she was watching. The other geniuses and competitors that was standing around her nodded in agreement with solemn expressions.

This was just too ridiculous! Feng Qin and Cao Fengzi match wasn't anything they've ever seen before between young spirit masters.

Especially those moves they used before using their respective spirits. It was like they were using spirit abilities but without spirit rings!

What the hell was that?!

One of the competitors, a Spirit Grandmaster, nervously gulped, "I-It's like a battle between Spirit Kings but not at the same time?"

"Spirit King? Really?"

"I-I've seen a couple of matches between Spirit Kings, so yeah it kinda looks like one. But none of their intensity of spirit power doesn't compare to a real Spirit King."

"Whatever the case, those two are probably the most powerful competitors in this competition."

"No wonder Cao Fengzi wasn't allowed to fight in the early matches. He would've torn the other competitors, especially the kids that participated either for training or fun, to pieces."

Li Fuji had a solemn expression as he clenched his fists, cold sweat on his forehead, "What the hell's up with that kid?"

"Which one?" One of them asked.

"I'm obviously talking about the one with a thousand year old spirit ring!" Li Fuji spread his arms apart in disbelief, glaring at the match between fire and lightning, "Just the fact he managed to absorbed one is frightening enough, but his physical capabilities and spirit power is comparable to a spirit elder!"

"And as if that isn't enough, that kid, as well as Cao Fengzi, are using some unknown self-created spirit abilities that only those from higher places would have the opportunity to use them. Just who in the hell are they?!"

"Cao Fengzi's background has always been a mystery, but there are rumours that he's from some fallen noble lineage." Lin Tong lightly said, deep in thought for a while.

"And as for that Feng Qin, I honestly have no clue but I can give my honest opinion that he's either a once in a thousand genius or someone lucky enough to meet a fortuitous encounter."

"...Hah?" Li Fuji and some other competitors opened their mouth incredulously, what kind of answer was that?

Cang Yuyue rolled her eyes and ignored their discussion as she continued to watch the truly amazing match.

Even though Feng Qin was showing battle prowess comparable or even above her own, she wasn't scared.

Instead, it just made her more excited to finally meet him on the stage.

'Ahh~ Fire boy, I can't wait to see you on stage and unravel all your secrets. Fufufufu.'

For a moment, on stage, Feng Qin paused as a shiver run his spine and felt a disgusting feeling.

'What is this? Did someone cast some kind of mental attack on me or something?!'

'An opening!'

Cap Fengzi didn't miss this kind of opportunity and went to attack him with a swing of his hammer and punched out with the power of thunder his other hand.

Of course, Feng Qin immediately recovered and used his sword to block the hammer as he used his other hand to counter Cao Fengzi's fist.

Bang!

An explosion of lightning and fire resounded in the entire arena.

On the other side of the arena, Mei Lin coldly watched the match of Feng Qin and Cao Fengzi.

"That boy, did he find a divine inheritance?" She muttered, her eyes narrowed in thought. After all, she knew more than most old generation Spirit Masters.

Her true name was Xian Qinxin, the once number one spirit master expert of the Xian Family 300 years old and was called the Ice Witch Douluo that had reached a terrifying spirit rank of 98 at her peak.

If it weren't for the war with the 4 Great Families, she would've reached the fabled rank 99 and finished her Ice God Trial and become the first ever new God of Soul Land after a thousand years!

Sadly for her, the previous heads of the Four Families had not only annihilated most of her great family, they also killed off her husband and children, and also destroyed her physical body when she was in midst of a breakthrough.

Fortunately however, she had learned a forbidden technique during one of her Ice God Trial that lets her soul possess an inanimate object, which was a book, so she could hide and heal her soul, whilst waiting for someone to wake her up.

And that day happened, for the girl named Mei Lin woke her from her three-century slumber by accident and Xian Qinxin proceeded to steal her body.

Although she's a cold and ruthless individual, she wasn't a monster, except for when a member of the Four Great Families appear before her, she would not hesitate to torture them and eating their souls.

But Mei Lin was just an innocent girl, so she just locked her soul at the moment in the far corner of her Spiritual Sea and would wake her up when she recreate her own body back.

Normally taking over someone else's body wasn't supposed to be done so quick, that is if the person was a Spirit Master and was a very high level one.

Fortunately however, taking over Mei Lin's body was an easy task due to her lack of innate spirit power.

With her soul in control, Mei Lin's original spirit was sealed along with her with Xian Qinxin's spirit replacing it.

Normally when a spirit master dies their spirit rings would disappear as well but Xian Qinxin managed to save her first to fifth spirit rings and would get them back as soon as she recovers her cultivation.

And sure enough, using the few remaining secret stashes that her family hidden away all across the city, Xian Qinxin used them to rapidly increase her cultivation to Spirit Elder realm.

If it were to spread that someone managed to reach the level of a Spirit Elder in just a few days, chaos would surely ensue whether they believe it or not.

She would've stayed in Mei Lin's home for an entire year or two to cultivate to Spirit King realm, if it weren't for the competition that she saw from a posture in her room.

There was a reason she didn't just accept death and went towards the afterlife to be with her family.

She wanted revenge for her family and clan.

The royal Dai and Zhu families, which are the feline clans; the mysterious Dragonseal family, which is the dragon clan; and the aloof Xiao family, the flames of an ancient God spirit master flowing in their veins.

She will never forget that humiliation, that loss, and that pain.

She will hold them accountable! Every, last, one of their descendants.

And most of them are present in the true maun National Youth Competition in the capital Star Luo City.

Xian Qinxin watched Feng Qin and Cao Fengzi with interest, especially the former.

'Just who are you?' She looked through the memories of Mei Lin and knew him as the original's acquaintance she met at the library.

In her previous life, she had never seen someone who managed to absorb a thousand year old spirit ring as their first spirit ring whilst having the battle prowess of a Spirit Elder.

She was suspicious that he was also a reincarnated old spirit master. Especially since he was using self-created spirit abilities that she had never seen before.

'Although that other boy, Cao Fengzi, was showing off some self-created spirit abilities as well, but his looked to be more flawed, sloppy and overall inefficient compared to most self-created spirit abilities I'd seen.' She saw through him in an instant, having learned a lot in her previous life.

'It was quite shocking to find out I've been asleep for a long time, but finding out so many talented geniuses have appeared in the city I once ruled is giving me mixed feelings.'

Especially that flaming, sword wielding boy. Although he was an outsider.

Moreover, she also sensed something familiar from him, something that reminded her of an encounter she had in the Ice God Trial.

Was it a divine inheritance? Or was it something else?

Xian Qinxin was intrigued, and decided to keep an eye on Feng Qin. She had a feeling that he might be a great ally to her cause.

Or an enemy. But she'll just get rid of him if that ever comes to pass.
