Douluo Dalu: Martial Path

In the world of Douluo Dalu, being a Soul Master is an occupation. A title above normal mortals. Yet, despite the power and numerous other abilities one would gain as they thread the path of a Spirit Master, they were no different from a normal mortal. They would still die to natural causes and a spirit master didn't have a longer lifespan than a mortal, except when they reach the limits of a spirit master but they could only live by twice or thrice the lifespan of a mortal still. Just what was good being a spirit master? Especially if one can easily kill them by the hands of either technology or natural causes? They weren't much different from a mortal. That was what Feng Qin had come to a conclusion as he turned twelve, six years after awakening an unknown trash Martial Spirit. But, on a fateful day, one single lucky moment as he had just survive from a life and death situation, changed his life forever. ... AN: Hey it's yo boi, FroztDouluo back with another Douluo Dalu fanfic! And this time, it's a concept that I've taken inspirations from Martial World(just read the story since it's a prequel to True Martial World, my favorite story and one I'm hoping to make a fanfic of someday), True Martial World, Tales of Demons and Gods, God of Slaughter, etc. I really hope I can make this story great and won't eventually turn me off. Cause my last few stories were great in plotlines at the start but it had eventually gone downhill due to several reasons.(Mainly laziness, writer's block, and school.) So, I'm going to clarify a few things and reveal a couple spoilers. One, there will be some oc other than the mc in this story. Most of them would come from other stories that I had previously mentioned or you guys can help me create some of them through comments. Two, I prioritize pa-treon more than here so if you notice me being late to update than it must mean I was either busy writing more chapters in pa-treon or I'm resting from the exhaustion of it. Three, the update schedule is 2-3 chapters a week with at least 1k words. Chapters are uploaded in Wednesday and Friday/Saturday(UTC +8, Philippine time). Four, I will try to reply to most of the comments I see but don't count much, cause I don't really reply very well because I just don't know what to write back. I just hope it'll get to a hundred, or two, chapters before I drop it, or not? It depends on life really. And positive comments and reviews, I don't really care much of power stones(tho, that doesn't mean you can't...) but positive feedback on my work really inspires me more to write. Want to check out my pa-treon and be ahead of your fellow WN kin? Well here's the link: pa–treon.com/FroztDouluo *Just get rid of the dash.

There was a complete silence permeating the atmosphere in the cell of Feng Qin and the unknown girl. The former had his back facing the latter, who still kept an icy cold gaze on him while keeping to herself in her little corner.

A bead of sweat run down the side of Feng Qin's face.

'...I don't know how to talk to her. She looks so freaking aggressive!' His lips thinned. 'What the hell should I say to her?'

He didn't want to talk to her, no matter how beautiful she is and how sexy she looks; this was just not the proper time to take a shot! Especially her potential to be a troublemaker with both her looks and personality.

One of the things that both of his parents taught him about, it was that in no dangerous situations was he to get in touch with troublemakers; especially the ones witj good looks and horrible personalities; they'd either drag you down with them or create endless for you when they're alive just because.

The silence continued on for some time, specifically just a few minutes, and Feng Qin had decided to just ignore her for now and went to the other side of the cell's corner, opposite to hers, to lean against the wall, went cross-legged, and started to meditate.

The beautiful girl flinched when he stood up from the ground but she immediately calmed down when he went to the other side of the corner to meditate.

She still looked at him coldly but there was a gleam of curiosity in her eyes that would send shivers down his spine if he had seen her look at him like that.

'Alright, set everything else to the side for now. If I want to know if there is a spirit master in their group, then I just have to draw their attention by faking a meditation.' Feng Qin closed his eyes and calmly took a slow and steady breath. 'Most average people know that for a spirit master to raise their spirit they have to sit down and meditate.'

Feng Qin's body went completely still and silent, looking like he was truly meditating. The girl huddled in the corner widened her eyes with a dumbfounded expression.

'W-What is that fool doing?!'

That fool in question controlled his breathing and fell into a steady rhythm, while still doing a internal monologue, 'But what they don't understand is that a spirit master messes with the spirit power around them; assimilating the energy into one's body and converge into their dantian, steadily filling it up constantly until it grows a bit bigger; rising to a another rank of their realm.'

'When the guard notices my posture, I have no doubt that he would start panicking and go alert their spirit master comrade. But if he only panics and don't get a spirit master, then it can only mean one thing: they don't have a spirit master; the best outcome for me and every other prisoner in this place.'

One hour later

'...This should be enough time for the guard to notice my behavior and reported it to a spirit master. But why aren't they talking? They're probably not here yet is what I'd assume. I'll just have to wait for a bit...'

One more hour later

'Where the fuck is that spirit master?! Don't tell me that he just silently stared at me to check if I was messing with the spirit power in the air and just left after confirming that I didn't!'

Feng Qin began to panic for a moment at his dilemma and decided to just screw it and open his eyes to check to see what was going on.

'I swear, if that guard just stood standing in that position for two whole freaking hours then I'm–oh.' He blinked his eyes as a small blade mostly filled his vision.

"Well, good morning to ya, or should I say, afternoon to be precise." A deep and calm voice sounded out, making Feng Qin glance up to see a man in his mid forties wearing a white t-shirt, short brown pants and bamboo sandals. He has an average face with long messy black hair; with the sideburns completely grey, thick black eyebrows and brown hazy eyes that showed cold indifference.

Feng Qin noticed the most noticeable part of the man: the three bright circles of light around his body; white, white and yellow spirit rings slowly rotating.

He moved the blade closer and coldly spoke, "Now, you wanna tell me what you were doing just now?"

'Shit! He scared the fuck outta me. Is he the leader or the most powerful one among them? A knife for a spirit and less than ideal spirit ring configuration, I can easily take him through surprise. But I need more information, I have to make him back away from me for now. ' Feng Qin thought were lightning quick, he only had a moment to think before he started to show a fearful expression, tears threatening to spill out of his eyes and tried backing his body up against the wall, and began his act. "W-What are you doing?! Please, don't kill me! I-I have nothing to give you! I-I just wanna go home. Hic.."

"Relax kid. I won't kill you." He blandly said, trying to reassure the boy and Feng Qin visibly started calming down. But if he did this to any ordinary child, it would have an opposite effect. "All you gotta do, is answer my question and I'll leave you alone."

"Y-You promise?"

"Hm." He grunted and tilted his head down.

"Okay m-mister." Feng Qin stuttered and gulped nervously. "Well, m-my mom taught me this thing I'm doing, mediation; to help me calm down in times of crisis or when I feel troubled."

The man raised an eyebrow skeptically. "Meditation, huh? And that's all you were doing? Just calming yourself down?"

Feng Qin nodded quickly. "Y-Yes, sir. I swear that's all I was doing."

The man studied Feng Qin for a few moments longer before nodding slowly. "Alright then. I'll be keeping my eye on you though, just in case."

Feng Qin let out a sigh of relief as the man unsummoned his knife; his spirit rings disappearing in tandem and walked away. He knew he had dodged a bullet there, but he also knew that he had to be more careful in the future. The last thing he wanted was to be caught doing something suspicious and end up dead in this cell.

The man walked out of the cell and turned towards the guard that had alerted him about the boy's action and said. "Good work on letting me know."

The guard nodded, "Yes, sir. We must stay vigilant in case any of the prisoners try to cause trouble." he suddenly looked nervous and turned back towards the cell where the two kids were held. "Still, brother Xi, are you sure that kid isn't a spirit master?"

The man called brother Xi, nodded and explained. "I'm sure. The kid is meditating but he isn't cultivating; he isn't assimilating the spirit power in the atmosphere into his body like what a spirit master would do, I've kept a check on it the entire time he was meditating. So no, he isn't a spirit master."

The guard let out a sigh of relief and smiled at the man. "Thank the gods. I'm sorry for calling you in for this but, y'know how it is. E-Even if they're kids they can still overpower average people like me. But against you, our leader, the Bloody Butcher Xi Huang, they wouldn't even have a fighting chance!"

Brother Xi let out a small laugh, "Well, I hope I don't have to use force on a couple of kids, but I appreciate your confidence in me."

They both stood there for a moment, silently looking at the cell. The guard suddenly spoke up again, a hint of concern in his voice. "Do you think there's any chance that the boy could become a spirit master in the future?"

Brother Xi thought for a moment before bursting into a fit of laughter, and answered, "Hahaha! Oh, man. You're really funny man but no, that ain't possible. You and everyone in this goddamn world know that being a spirit master is decided upon when every kid turns six years old. No innate spirit power, then no spirit master. And even if he does reveal to be a spirit master, he won't be a very powerful one. How old is he?"

"Twelve at least, we examined his bone structure to be around twelve and fourteen years old." the guard replied.

"Then we have nothing to worry about." Xi Huang shrugged.

The guard nodded, but still looked uneasy. "I just have a bad feeling about him. It's like... like he's hiding something."

Brother Xi raised an eyebrow, "Hiding something? What do you mean?"

"I don't know, sir," the guard replied, "It's just a feeling I have. He's too calm, too focused. Like he's waiting for something. And the way he looked at me earlier... it was like he could see right through me."

Brother Xi frowned, "That's just your imagination playing tricks on you. We have nothing to worry about, trust me."

The guard nodded, but still looked unconvinced. As they turned to walk away, he couldn't shake the feeling that there was something more to the boy than meets the eye.

'Bingo~' Feng Qin lowered his head, to hide the massive grin that split his mouth. He couldn't believed that worked! Now he just has to wait till nightfall and he can start beating the shit out of these shitty people. 'I just need to knock out all those people first before I start freeing the others.'

'But I know for a fact that just my fists wouldn't cut it. Where can I find a weapon–' He was just about to start planning out his plan when he was suddenly interrupted by his cellmate.

"Hey. What the hell were you trying to accomplish there?" Her voice was as cold and harsh as her facial expression, though thankfully it wasn't loud enough for the guard nearby to hear as she had come closer towards him; by standing just a couple feet away from him. She looked down at him with contempt, her arms crossed beneath her large breasts. "Are you trying to get us killed?"

Feng Qin narrowed his eyes and stared at her with an equally cold glare. "No. I'm trying to get us out."

The girl's eyes widened in surprise at his sudden shift of behavior, different from the one he showed earlier at Xi Huang, but she pressed on with a scoff. "Yeah, right. You think you can take on all those guards? You're delusional. Especially that Spirit Elder when you're not even a spirit master yourself!"

Feng Qin stood up to his full height, towering over the girl. He neared his face towards hers and whispered, "When did I say I wasn't a spirit master?" He took a brief glance at the door only to find no one was there, the two had gone to get something to eat, and he summoned his spirit.

There was a brief flash of an orange light on his chest, underneath his white shirt, and a vibrant yellow spirit ring appeared around his body.

The girl's eyes widened, surprised at the sudden transformation but unexpectedly, she scrunched her nose in disappointment. "So, you're a spirit master, literally; with one ring. Wow~ Brilliant!" she sarcastically started clapping, her eyes turning flat. "You really think you can take on a Spirit Elder?"

Feng Qin scoffed and replied. "I'd rather fight for my freedom to my last breath than be sold off to become a slave and die with dishonour." he narrowed his eyes and pointed his finger at her. "You're a spirit master as well."

The girl smirked and tilted her head up higher, and arrogantly responded. "Hmph. Of course I am. If someone like a hum– you could become one, then why can't I? Especially since it looks like I'm more talented." saying that, she snapped her fingers and Feng Qin suddenly felt a suppressive feeling coming from her.

Her irises turned red and her pupils contracted and changed vertically like a dragon. Both of her hands, from the fingers to each of her forearms; lean and sharp rhombus shaped golden scales replaced her human skin and her fingernails into large black talons of a dragon. Two yellow spirit rings popped out around her waist and slowly traveled up and down her body.

The girl's lips curled up into a wide grin, completely showing her sharp teeth to Feng Qin. "Well, am I a spirit master or not?"

Feng Qin didn't respond. He just blankly stared at her with an open mouth.

The girl was immediately confused and started snapping her fingers in front of his face.

"Hey! Hey! You okay? Hey–"

Feng Qin went unresponsive because he could no longer hear her or anything around him. He could only feel himself.

Because the moment she used her Spirit Body Enhancement, he felt his chest had tightened, like a knife had inserted into his chest twisted it, but that's not all. He could also feel an excruciating burning pain, spreading across his entire body.

'W-What's happening? Why am I feeling like my heart is about to burst out in flames?! No wait, this feeling. I-It's not coming from my heart or any muscular part of my body, it's coming from my...' Feng Qin looked down at where his spirit was located with abject horror, as he saw the Orange Gem brightly glowing. '–spirit?'

The Orange Gem gleamed forebodingly and Feng Qin's eyes briefly glowed orange at the same time.

"–hey! You alright? Don't tell me you went into shock when you saw my martial spirit Spirit Body Enhancement?" she let out wry sigh and shook her head.

Suddenly, Feng Qin's eyes turned completely orange as his mind was quickly overwhelmed with a sudden strange urge.

The urge to suck her blood.

'Her neck... it's so pretty.' That was the last thing he remembered before blacking out.
