The regular

When I was 19 I got a job serving in a pub. It was a neighbourhood bar, and we had a lot of regulars. Most sat in groups (like the "Harley Boys" who all rode their bikes to the bar) but there were a few loners too. One guy, who was about 40, would come in a few times a week. On weekdays when it wasn't too busy the servers could chat and this regular overheard me telling my coworker that I wanted to be a book reviewer or copy editor - anything that meant I could make money for reading. When I checked on the regular next he mentioned that he did some writing in his spare time, and would love for me to take a look at a novel he was writing. I said sure, and he said he'd bring in a copy the next day.

So the next day when my shift rolls around, there he is, sitting at his regular high top with a small stack of papers. He waved me over and excitedly gave me the pages. I started reading them while standing at his table and he was intensely staring at me. Well, turns out his "novel" was hardcore erotica...the male character was clearly him, and the female character described sounded a little too familiar. I stopped reading and told him "I do not feel comfortable continuing to read this." He then tried to get me to take the papers home, insisting I should read it by myself and let him know what I think. I firmly said no, which made him visibly upset. I left and went to the kitchen, and told my manager what happened. He switched me to a different section and kept the regular away from me. I got the heebie jeebies whenever I spotted him in the pub after that.

The regular was banned from the pub a few weeks later though, when he followed another server out to her car after her shift. Thankfully our bouncer saw him follow her and intercepted him before he could do any physical harm
