Mother's Love

Nathan eventually made it home with ease and the time was close to 1 PM. He shouldn't have been home by now so his mom would definitely know something was up. But he could do nothing but face it.

Nathan prepared himself and opened the door to the apartment. He took a peek inside and stepped in.

"Who's there?!" His mom asked with uncertainty.

"Uh.. it's me, mom.." Nathan replied weakly.

"What? Nathan" she asked and came to the door.

Nathan instinctively looked down after seeing his mother's face.

Angelica immediately knew something was wrong, Nathan was not the type to be nervous at all.

"What happened?" She asked with a sigh knowing he must have gotten into trouble.

"I..might have gotten expelled," He said after a few seconds of silence.

"WHAT? Expelled??!" She replied in disbelief.

"How? What.." she continued seemingly finding the situation impossible.

"I'll explain let's go to the kitchen," Nathan said and took off his shoes.

His mother went to the kitchen first and brewed some coffee. Eventually, he sat down on the chair.

"So I was lost in school and I decided to eventually sit down after thinking I wouldn't be able to find my classroom." He started talking.

"Okay and?" She said curiously.

"I started trying to find out people's power levels as I was curious and this girl came up to me and started threatening me with her mana" He continued.

"Long story short she's the sole daughter of the Crestl family." He said not wanting to indulge too much in the boring things.

"Crestl? Those bastards!" His mom replied reminiscing about her past. She had some personal beef with them too.

"You know them?" Nathan asked.

"Yeah I do.. a few years ago when I was in a dungeon their members swooped it and took all the materials and monster corpses after we defeated the boss" she explained.

"I still can't forget the face of that arrogant young man.." she murmured with anger.

Nathan was surprised to see this side of his mother since he thought she was a pure angel. Apparently not.

"Okay and after I found my class this teacher started asking me questions of where I transferred and stuff. I left the classroom since he was being annoying and then he and the Crestl girl reported it to the principal so he expelled me" He said hoping his mother wouldn't be too sad.

"How dare they?" She exclaimed and broke the cup she was holding on.

"Am I in trouble?" He asked curiously after seeing his mother's reaction.

"No... it's fine I expected those families to already corrupt various schools. But there's one they won't be able to reach. The World Awakened Academy." She replied with confidence.

"Listen, Nathan, I might be able to get you there after the first semester since I know someone. I'll train you in the meantime" she said and went over the her bedroom to make a call.

She knew that Nathan had talent since he had 3 attributes at S rank and several talents.

Nathan patiently waited for his mother to return so he grabbed some cookies on the table.

Around 15 minutes later she returned with good news. Apparently, an elder of the school decided to accept him if he did some tests at the school. Why he decided to Nathan does not know.

"Okay thank you mom, I will make sure to make you proud. When do we start training?" He asked.

"In a week, I need to prepare some things so stay patient" she replied and started cleaning up the mess she made.

"Perfect," Nathan thought, he now had a whole week to deal with Andy.

Eventually, he went back to his room and contacted Charles with his phone. It had already been a few hours since they met but Nathan was expecting information to be done by now.

"Charles, how's it going?" Nathan asked in the voice call.

"I've searched on various different websites and it seems like he is a mage with fire properties" Charles replied.

"Anything else?" Nathan continued.

"Nothing much seems like he's hiding something" Charles concluded after several attempts to investigate the man.

"Okay, start making your way to school and try to find him, and then follow him if you can" Nathan ordered.

"As you wish. For One!" He shouted at the end.

"For one? Seems like a good slogan" Nathan thought inspired by it.

At the meantime he would be attempting to breakthrough to the D-rank level. He made sure to remind his mom of his breakthrough attempt and then returned to his room.

Breaking through to the next rank usually required several mana stones to help. But with his mana being so pure and his ability to absorb it Nathan would have no problems.

He started absorbing the mana and bringing it all to his core steadily. Minutes passed until he finally felt the notification sound from his system.

"Huh D+?" Nathan said.

He double checked his status window in shock and it was still displaying D+.

"I don't understand?" He then murmured to himself.

"Was it really possible to breakthrough multiple times at once?" He thought and looked at the situation strangely.

"Whatever that works I guess, I suppose I should start training my attributes from tomorrow on." He said and went to shower the sweat and dirt that accumulated during the breakthrough.
