“I miss you.” My voice came out as a croak, and I didn’t even bother to clear my throat. “I can’t wait to see you again.”

“Same for me. I miss you both.”

“It looks beautiful there today. How’s the lake?” Preston’s voice sounded casual, and I gave his thigh a squeeze in appreciation at his attempt to steer the conversation into neutral waters. Heh. A water pun. I’d have to remember that for when we lived on a boat.

Which wouldn’t be right away. Not only was the boat too small, but Pres and I needed to acclimate. A night on the lake was fine, but we didn’t have our sea legs yet. Wade had found us a sweet little apartment over the bakery in town, and it wasn’t more than a seven-minute drive from V Wilderness. It wasn’t ideal, but we all needed to ease into living together. The important part was that we would be in the same place and see each other every day.
