Chapter 10: Mass recruitment
" that'll be 15 gold coins sir" the shopkeeper told Richie
Richie then passed 15 gold coins over to the shopkeeper who, upon receiving the grinned stupidly. This was the shops biggest sale of the month.
"Have a nice day good sir"
Richie picked up his newly bought clothes and left the store, 15 coins was an exorbitant price for just clothes, but Richie had over 10,000 coins, so he didn't really mind spending a few more coins than usual, he did buy some high quality clothes though.
upon entering his room, Richie immediately changed clothes and headed off again, it was a big day today. The alchemist guild's mass recruitment.
A mass recruitment worked by allowing lots of people to take tests, like a grammar school test, and those with the tops scores in the 'knowledge', or the first section would go onto the practice assessment where they would be judged, if they received a high score, they would get in, simple as that.
The mass recruitment for the alchemist guild was being held at the alchemist guild itself.
After asking about the location of the guild, he finally arrived at the guild, just minutes before it was about to start.
a few minutes later, outside of the alchemist guilds...
"Welcome, fellow alchemists to our guilds MASS RECRUITMENT SESSION!" A middle aged man wearing a red robe with a 3 star alchemist badge announced.
" I am Zhang wei, the deputy head of the alchemist guild, i will be supervising this test."
" woah, it's the deputy head of the guild, why would he be watching over this test?" a person in the crowd asked.
" I heard it's because the young projedy of the Wang clan is participating" another person replied
" why is he participating in the mass recruitment, he could just ask to join and no doubt, the guild would let him, he's already a 2 star alchemist!" Many people were puzzled by deputy head Zhangs appearance to a seemingly unimportant event, But it seemed to be because of the young projedy of the Wang clan, Richie's enemy
Everyone, exept Richie erupted into a cheer. There were hundreds of thousands of people in front of the guild, packing the nearby areas fully so the synchronised cheering of so many people rattled Richie's ears making him dizzy.
Almost everyone here was there to join the alchemist guild. By being part of the guild, one would have various privileges, the first and most important privilege was a backing, if you had a powerful backing, you would be safe from most things, this was what Richie wanted the most, to be protected from the Wang clan.
The other privileges consisted of things like discounts on products, proper teaching and rare items usually not available to purchase.
The middle aged man then retrieved something from his storage ring, it was a jade talisman, he then tapped on it twice before ti expanded to a huge size around 50 meters by 50 metres.
" Alright, this first examination, it will be a knowledge examination, there will be 100 questions, all about the basics of alchemy, to pass, you need to get at least 75 questions right." Deputy Zhang stated.
"To start the test, all you need to do is send your consciousness into the talisman and you will be able to answer the questions."
Suddenly, right before Richie's eyes, thousands upon thousands of people were collapsing onto the floor, they had all sent their consciousness into the talisman.
" you all have 7 hours to complete this test" Zhang wei announced.
Richie, right after hearing this immediately sent his consciousness into the talisman aswell.
Inside the talisman, richie found himself sitting in front of a desk with a large stack of papers on it, the world around him was entirely turquoise for some reason.
"so this is the test huh" Richie said to himself. He opened the first page and 5 questions were all layed out before him.
However, of Richie was going to pass any of the tests, the knowledge test would be the one he passed on. Richie, from young, had been extremely determined to become an alchemist, he spent hours on end reading countless books on alchemy, if anyone was going to pass this test, it would be him.
He immediately answered the question in his head and the corresponding question in the paper completely disappeared.
" hmm, These questions are way too easy!" Richie exclaimed, they were only questions on the different types of herbs and their properties. it was all way too easy. I can probably complete this in only an hour, he thought
However, if any of the other participants were to hear his thoughts, they might just immediately pass out. The questions might have been easy for him but for everyone else, it was extremely difficult for them to complete the test within 7 hours.
Meanwhile...
" Ugh these questions are so easy, why do I have to do this stupid test anyway" Rachel asked herself. she was a 2 star alchemist but her family forced her to take the assessment whether she was a 2 star alchemist or not
" Hmm this question is quite difficult, good thing I was specifically taught this" she said to herself.
She was talking about the 100th question, if it were any other person, they would immediately become stumped by that question, but not her, she had been taught the answer specifically.

Richie had finally reached the 100th question, but what the question asked had completely stumped him, it read ' when a pill reaches 100% purity, what can it develop?'
The question was extremely vague, but even if Richie knew what it was asking, he wouldn't have known the answer.
- IMPOSSIBLE, HOW DO THEY KNOW ABOUT THAT- The system suddenly shouted.
" what, what is it? " Richie asked puzzled by the systems earlier outbreak.
- the answer to that question is 'divinity lines'
pardon me but I've got to check something out.
- god I hope what I think is going on isn't true- the system muttered
- I will have to shut down the system whilst I'm gone, sorry but this is really urgent-
- system shutting down -
"D-did my system just abandon me?" Richie asked himself in disbelief, it had only been a few day since he got the system, and it had already abandoned him, how unreliable!
Meanwhile in an unknown place...
