Distress Call

Adam meets his old university crush in a high-end restaurant and discovers her doing something unimaginable; trying to jump off the building. He manages to take her home and tie her down, in case she tries to do it again. However, when she wakes up, he discovers she was much different than the person she was while they were in university. Filled with renewed hope, he pursues her again and this time, he won't take no for an answer. Enter a serial killer into the equation, you know there's going to be drama. Warning; lots of angst and psychological elements but is still a refreshing read. There are also elements of capture so if you're sensitive to that, don't read too much meaning into it. Hope you enjoy it

Chapter 3

Adam waited till the other man left before taking the file and tearing into it. Ever since he had free time, he asked his secretary to look into little things for him about Giselle. The last thing was her work information, which was something that crossed the line. Then again, taking occasional pictures of her like a stalker pretty much did.

Giselle worked as a Psychologist and also in protective child care. She co-owned a clinic in the industrial district with her former coursemate and unsurprisingly the class representative of her department. The man was married with a kid though so he knew it was safe.

It was one of the most popular clinics around that area and part of the reason was that both of the owners were a sight for sore eyes. They were also good at what they did.

Adam compared their lives. She was a well-known doctor with a steady income while he had just taken over a mafia family and was in the process of turning their relations legal. If he were her, he would never agree to a date.

Adam clenched his fist and made a resolution. He would just have to work harder then.

The next day when Giselle awoke, she found her wardrobe filled with clothes, and most of them were close to her size. She picked black suit pants, a turquoise shirt, and black flats to wear for the day. After taking her bath, she changed into it and went down for breakfast.

Finding the stairs was easy because it was close to her room but she could note that Adam's house was terribly big. And glittering. She even wondered if he had a gold obsession.

From the stairs, the sitting and dining rooms were visible. Even more visible was the man seated at the head of the dining table, reading the morning news with glasses.

"Good morning"

"Good morning Giselle. Did you sleep well?"

"Mmhm"

Adam gave her a blinding smile. She returned it with a small one. Speaking of which, she wondered who still read newspapers in this time and age. He was a weird one, that's for sure.

What she didn't know was that Adam was reading something else in the newspaper. It was something she absolutely couldn't see.

Breakfast was a simple toast and jam with honey tea. Adam took her to the garage and watched the car go off in the distance, the driver taking her in one of his cars.

Giselle's office was about two hours away from Adam's house. Noting that, she frowned. It was going to be much harder to get to work.

She opened her phone which Adam had returned earlier and texted her partner, Matthew, that she was going to be late.

The driver dropped her off and asked her the best time to pick her up. She told him and watched him drive away. She wondered if he was returning to Adam's house or going to park nearby.

She was accosted right from the reception area by her staff and surrounded immediately.

"Dr. Cheadle, spill the tea. Where were you yesterday?"

"Did you go on a rendezvous?"

"Tell us, we want to know!!"

"Don't you guys have anything better to do than to bug me this early?"

"Nope. We've got tea on everyone else except you. Come on, spill it. Dr. Park already told us you were going on a date the day before yesterday. Tell us!!"

"Get to work before I fire all of you. You know there are many people who would die to be nurses and workers here" she said with a scary smile.

"Tsk. So stingy" they all commented and left.

She sighed. The details of the date always left a bitter aftertaste of awkwardness.

"You can fire them but what about me?" she heard a voice say from behind.

She slowly turned to find her long time partner and only school friend Matthew staring at her with his arms crossed. She knew there was no way out as that was his gossip stance. He was a bigger gossip than all of the other staff combined.

"Care to explain why a man picked up your phone and told me you couldn't make it to work because you were sick?"

"Do I really have to?"

"Do you want to live?"

"Why so violent, Dr. Park? It's not a good look on you"

"Spill. The. Damn. Tea"

"Tch, fine. Do you know an Adam Denver?"

"Do I know him? He was voted the most handsome guy in the faculty for three years in a row till the other guys found him ineligible because he was hogging all the girls. He is also super-rich and an artistic genius. Who didn't know him?. However, when we graduated, I heard rumors that he was in the mafia. With that face, he could be a top model at any time. I'm thinking the only person who didn't know him was you. So, what's this about him?"

"He took me home the day before yesterday because I was dead drunk and apparently wanted to kill myself and told me to rest throughout yesterday in his mansion. He made a proposal to me in exchange for saving my life. He said I should live with him for one month and he would find a way to make me fall in love with him in that one month. Pretty silly if you ask me…...wait, why are you looking at me that way?"

The moment someone asks you out and all your friends want to know lol.
