Distress Call

Adam meets his old university crush in a high-end restaurant and discovers her doing something unimaginable; trying to jump off the building. He manages to take her home and tie her down, in case she tries to do it again. However, when she wakes up, he discovers she was much different than the person she was while they were in university. Filled with renewed hope, he pursues her again and this time, he won't take no for an answer. Enter a serial killer into the equation, you know there's going to be drama. Warning; lots of angst and psychological elements but is still a refreshing read. There are also elements of capture so if you're sensitive to that, don't read too much meaning into it. Hope you enjoy it

Chapter 12

The other Benz cars also moved haphazardly and this way, they switched positions. The five cars then divided and took different routes.

To further their protection, the police cars created a diversion and the three cars were forced off track too. Not even looking back, Giselle continued on the path set for her.

She looked in the rear mirror and saw no one was chasing, releasing a sigh of relief. It was at that point that Adam woke up. He slowly rubbed his eyes and looked at Giselle. She gave him a short glance and looked back at the road.

"What's going on?"

"We're being chased and shot at"

Giselle looked abnormally calm when she said that. There was a fire in her eyes. She licked her lips several times as she drove, causing heat to run rampant in Adam's body. If that wasn't enough to wake him up, then he was a fool.

"...How are you so calm?"

"Adrenaline I guess. You should know by now but I don't express emotions often. I'm a bit scared right now, to be honest. I mean, we are being shot at and it's all your fault by the way"

Adam felt an imaginary arrow pierce his heart.

"I'm sorry"

"You can apologize later. Let's get out of this"

"Uh, you're a good driver"

Giselle raised a brow but ultimately said nothing, turning another corner. That was how Adam became a sitting duck during an interesting car race.

He was so confused. He was supposed to be driving, showing off to his crush but in a strange twist of events, she was the one crushing the road like it was her backyard. How could he have the face to chase her again?!

Giselle looked in the rearview mirror and swore loudly. His attention caught, Adam looked into the rearview mirror. He saw three black vans in pursuit.

"How did they find us?! I thought this plan was supposed to be foolproof. You are the real mafia, right?"

Being asked this by the woman actively participating in a high-speed car chase, Adam shrunk in embarrassment and couldn't answer.

"Can we switch?" He mumbled but she heard him.

"Switch? In this situation?"

"It should be possible"

"Don't bother. I can handle it. You should have permission to shoot at them right? Just shoot at their tires. Wait, you can shoot, right? You do have a gun in here, right?"

If not for her serious appearance, he would've thought she was mocking him. Well, in some parts she was. He was a bit disgruntled as he pulled out a gun from the glove compartment and loaded it. As he wound down the side mirror to shoot, a shot came from behind and hit the mirror, causing it to fall down. Giselle pulls him back just in time.

"I'm not sure the drugs have worn off so you might feel a little disoriented. You don't have to do this if you can't"

"Are you kidding me? I'm not a man if I let you do everything"

"Suit yourself"

Adam pointed the gun out of the car and shot at the first one. It hit the one in the driver's seat on the shoulder and it skidded off the tracks, crashing into a wall. This also halted the other cars.

"Nice" she commented. Adam didn't take this to heart as he picked up his phone and called Jellal. He picked it up almost immediately.

"Miss Cheadle, we've lost track of the pursuers. We are on the way to your location"

"Jellal, it's me. They are right behind us. How did you mess this up?"

"Well, well, boss, aren't you just waking up?"

"Shut up, I was on medication. Get here fast"

"I already said we were on our way. Don't be so impatient"

Annoyed, Adam dropped the call. He gave Giselle a short glance and heard her snort.

"So what I'm hearing is that you lot are incompetent? So much for being mafia. Reality really is disappointing"

Another arrow pierced Adam's heart, drawing blood.

"No, we're not normally like this. Today was completely unexpected. What I do know now is that we have a rat. Damn, this is embarrassing"

"Buckle up, mafia boy, we're almost at your house"

"Don't call me mafia boy" he grumbled with a pout. Giselle could understand why he was sulking but it mattered even less to her.

She pushed the car to the limit and drove it into the open compound, pressing the brakes immediately. They almost hit a wall but thankfully, they were completely safe. The staff rushed out when they heard the commotion and ran to the car to check on its inhabitants.
