Chapter 71: The Man Trapped in the Back
"Could the three of them actually be the same person?"
Having already seen many strange and bizarre sorcerer apprentices, Saul guessed at the reason for the three people in front of him being different.
But he soon realized that he had guessed wrong.
The folding door was pushed open a small crack, and a boy with the same blonde hair and blue eyes stepped out and nodded to the girl first in line.
Then turned to leave.
The man who came out was wearing the same clothes, with the same second level apprentice name tag pinned to his shirt.
The female apprentice in the first rank stepped through that doorway, and Kaz took advantage of the situation to lead Sol into the room.
Upon entering the room, the first thing Saul did was to use his afterglow to look for Mentor Rum's figure.
This room was indeed large.
It was limited in width due to the size of the wizard tower itself, but it should be quite long in length.
The reason why it should be is because the only thing hanging on the sides of the room are heavy shading curtains made of what looks suspiciously like leather.
Each curtain was a meter wide, made of heavy material, and did not sway.
There were no walls in this room, only such blocking curtains.
The female apprentice who had come in before Sol and the others had walked to the right and lifted a curtain with her hand.
Saul slightly probed to see the next "room".
He then saw a beam of light hitting the ground diagonally.
Saul blinked his eyes, feeling that the light was different from ordinary candlelight.
He was suddenly a little nervous again, but not because of the impending appearance of the Rum Tutor.
"Rum?" Kaz didn't rush into the space to his left and right, but simply raised his voice to ask.
"Hmph!" A response came from the right, only by the tone, it didn't seem good.
"Hey."
Kaz raised his hand, signaling for Saul to follow.
Together, they lifted the curtain from where the apprentice had just passed, leading to the next "room".
The moment Saul passed through, he felt that the room was a bit warmer than the rest.
He subconsciously looked in the direction of the source of the warmth and saw it – sunlight!
He suddenly burst into tears.
On the outer wall, a small one meter square window was embedded in the wall. The dark window opened outwards, and because of the thickness of the outer wall, only a small half of it leaked outside.
It was that beam of light, through the thick outer wall, as if it had traveled through a starry sky, shining obliquely on the floor, bringing a different kind of warmth to the entire cold room.
Saul hadn't seen sunlight in over three months!
"There will be opportunities later." He sighed softly inwardly, letting the tears that were about to overflow shrink back into his eyes as he took two quick steps to follow Mentor Kaz in front of him.
After a few steps, there was nothing but a faint mist in his eyes. Even as he passed the pillar of light and cut into the warmth of the light, he didn't lose his composure again.
Mentor Rum was sitting on the inner side of this room, and Saul saw a mountain of flesh as he passed through the light pillar.
He had seen big fat people of several hundred pounds on TV and on his cell phone. Many of them were so fat that they couldn't even move while lying in bed.
Even those people couldn't be described as a mountain of meat.
And this one in front of him, definitely could.
He was supposed to be a male, covered in fat that obscured all external gender features, with half-length and messy blonde hair hanging down to his chin, held up by the fat on his chin. There was no beard, and his nose was sunk into the fat of his cheeks. Only the area around the eyes was fairly flat.
And the most prominent part of him was his stomach.
The entire stomach was overlapped in layers, and it was impossible to tell where the chest was and where the belly was. A pair of legs hidden under the puffy fat were completely invisible.
But his pair of arms were surprisingly slender, growing out from his shoulders to be two meters long, and his arms were divided into three sections, seemingly not human limbs.
Could this person be Rum?
Meat Mountain didn't pay attention to Kaz and Sol who walked in, but used that pair of strangely long hands to grope around the female apprentice who came in earlier.
The female apprentice, however, was expressionless and allowed her whole body to be examined.
There was no obscene atmosphere here, and Rum's expression was slightly scrutinizing and critical, as if he was inspecting a cabbage in a vegetable market to see if there were any rotten leaves on it.
"Go get down on the stage."
The female apprentice, finally spared, walked over to a thin, cold iron table at Rum's side and began to undress.
She wore no top under her robes, but was neatly dressed in pants underneath.
Not a single person in the room twisted their eyes.
Even Saul gazed in silence. He had seen many a woman's naked body in the corpse room, only alive, indeed, for the first time.
The female apprentice's movements didn't have the slightest delay due to the presence of outsiders, and after she confessed the upper half of her body, she silently lay down on the long iron bed, peeling back her blonde hair and revealing her white back.
Rum reached one of his slender hands over and gently pressed it against the apprentice girl's back.
In the middle of the latter's white skin, a ball of golden rune formations suddenly surfaced.
The fine runes were interspersed with some lines and Noah's words, and Sol couldn't help but look twice more as he saw this kind of spell formation for the first time.
Suddenly, in Saul's eyes, those golden runes violently changed their positions and actually formed a male face, and the eyes formed by the runes even turned to stare at Saul.
Saul immediately lowered his head and averted his eyes.
At the same time, he also missed the unexpected glance that Rum threw over.
Not long after, Rum finished his inspection and waved his hand for the female apprentice to get dressed and go out.
"Not bad, next."
The female apprentice remained expressionless, no emotions visible.
When she went out, Rum was sighing softly.
He then immediately gathered his emotions and looked at Saul behind Kaz, but his mouth was talking to Kaz.
"This is the man you recommended? He got my lab assistant killed, what makes you think I would agree to it?"
"Because he fits." Kaz shrugged his shoulders.
"Suitable? A rookie apprentice, what do you think he knows?"
"You can learn if you can't." Kaz said indifferently.
Rum lifted his lips in a short laugh, "Learn for how long? How much time do you think I have to waste on him?"
Kaz, however, didn't care, "So what if it's a waste of time? Have we wasted less time?"
Seeing that Kaz wasn't in a very high mood, Rum slowed his tone instead.
"You saw Kira?"
"It's time to call Kira-sama, she's advanced to the second rank."
"A second order wizard?" Rum was a bit surprised, but quickly turned into a trance, "She's even advanced? But I'm afraid I won't be able to advance in this lifetime."
Kaz didn't say anything and seemed to recognize Rum's exclamation.
The room was a little quiet for a moment.
After a few moments, the sound of a second male apprentice walking into the room interrupted both men's thoughts.
Rum snapped back to his senses and said to Kaz, "You go back, I'm going to test him. If it doesn't work, he'll be told to roll back alive."
Kaz was a bit hesitant, he looked back at Saul as if he wanted to say something, but in the end, he said nothing, just patted Saul's shoulder and left the room straight away.
Saul didn't expect it either.
Did Mentor Kaz no longer help him explain about Cid?
Or did he think that as long as Rum didn't get him killed, even if he suffered a little bit, it would be quite good to get rid of this matter?
Rum cast an icy gaze, making Saul instantly feel that he was also stripped of his top.
The second apprentice had already walked up to Rum by now.
Rum's interest was not high, casually pinched him twice and let him lie on the iron bed.
"Watch carefully, I'll ask you later."
"Seriously? Is that for me?"
Although he was still a bit confused, Saul saw that Rum had already begun to move, and hurriedly put himself into a semi-immersed meditative state.
This was his serious work ethic!
This time in his perspective, the golden talisman behind the male apprentice's back appeared and quickly formed a woman's head.
Sol endured his discomfort and continued to stare at the rune changes, carefully checking and analyzing what each one did.
It was just that most of the runes in this spell formation were composite runes, some of which he hadn't even seen before. So after reading for half a day, he only had a half-understanding.
But right at this moment, he suddenly saw a white translucent human head violently rushing out from the spell formation.
But there seemed to be a suction force on it that was stopping him.
The features that were pulled backward to the limit were extremely similar to the woman's head made up of golden runes!
Thank you for the big brother reward!
Surprisingly, I was on the new book strong push, unexpected joy! It's time to add more to celebrate, but I've been sick for the last week and didn't save a draft, I'll try and finish adding more this week!
Thank you all for your support, and keep reading!
(Also in a whisper: no water, the crisis needs a villain, and the new villain needs time to make an appearance.)
