Who was this coming up from the road like a column of cloud? A white train of Mercedes Benzes!
{Mate! ~ <3}
Escorted by a squad of motorbike warriors, the noblest Blue Demon Warriors, all of them wearing their navy blue Betamen jackets, all experienced in battle, each armed and prepared for the terrors of the night.
It was really a sight to behold - one that apparently inspired Lycan verse.
Or maybe it was just this ONE PERSON whom I knew was in the white convey riding up to us.
{Mate! ~ <3}
I found myself making my way down to meet them on the road. When did I get up from the picnic mat? I didn't remembering excusing myself at all, but here I was, winding down the slope, side stepping between families on picnic mats, only slowing when I had reached the roadside.
My heart beating in anticipation.
{Mate! ~<3}
If anyone else had called out to me, I didn't register it. Suddenly, there was only one fact that mattered: Mate was here.
{Mate! ~<3}
The roads were closed, but Mate was not the kind of man who'd let something as trifle as plastic barriers and road closure signs stand in his way. The car horn called for immediate attention, and the warriors stirred to move the road barriers aside.
The only problem with removing road barriers to drive through closed roads was that usually the roads were closed for a reason. In this case, the reason was a long buffet line running down the front of the packhouse road and then ending with a stage at the other end. There was really no where for the cars to drive by.
This resulted in a traffic jam at the start of the buffet line, and a bit of confusion among the wolves around it.
"Why are the Lorries gatecrashing?" Gamma Endo stomped out from amongst the picnickers. He looked irritated, "Who let them in?"
"I think that's our Luna Bell's car." Nix pointed out from behind him.
The convoy was also accompanied by our own blue demon motorbike escort, not the light grey Lorent soldiers, but Gamma Endo was still testy about the white cars. Morning Light wolves weren't all that fond of "the Lorries".
Our packs had always been on friendly terms, but this was only because Dad believed that there was no reason to pick fights with our neighbors over petty trifles like their stuck up noses.
And I guess, on their end, our stuck up neighbor never went out of their way to bother us - for most part anyway. We were just the barbarians next door. The Glorious Lorents seemed to truly believe they lived in a land surrounded by poor Barbarians.
Sometimes the young males would fight - a little like the shooting incident along the border, but the shooting was them going too far. Usually it was just fist fights, over girlfriends or staring too hard or verbal insults and other dumb reasons guys got into fights for.
Most of my interactions were very much like that with the Lorent ladies at the bake sale. They said all the nice things and didn't seem mean at all, but Shannon had been sure they were just acting sorry for us pitiful Babarian pups. Shannon had always been more suspicious of nice adults than I was.
Oh, and I guess the episode on 16th Street with the Lorent highschool girls should've been expected. Come to think of it, I'm not sure why I was surprised at the way our meeting turned out. It was exactly like how the other girls like Jessica had described them.
"Nothing good ever drove a white Benz." Was something I've heard Morning Light warriors say. Not to me of course. I was just a dumb pup who went back home and stupidly repeated it at the dining table - that did not go down well.
Wasn't it just a little ironic that my soul mate was now driving up the road in a white Merce. It wasn't just the car… they were behaving exactly like a Lorent Convoy. Just stopping there as if our ENTIRE picnic had to up and move for them to pass through.
"It's our Luna Bell." I heard the wolves tell each other.
The cars were now stalled behind the buffet tables.
Gamma Harry was in the buffet line, but it looked serious enough for him to leave the line to come over to check out what was happening.
"Endo! Why did you let cars in?" Gamma Harry yelled the moment he reached the other man, "It's dangerous for the food."
Urm… yes, because that was the priority.
"What the f***." Gamma Endo grumbled.
It wasn't that the warriors weren't going to shift the entire party to the side of the road just so their next luna could drive his stupid car through, but that the tables were just covered with plates and trays of food. It wasn't like they could just shove everything to one side without making a mess of it.
So now we know. If you wanted to stop the Blue Demon warriors in their tracks, don't bother with road blocks or whatever. Just put tables piled high with food and you'd have these big guys wringing their hands. Should they take the trays off the table first? But there was no empty table to put the food down on. Could they put the food directly on the road? But it was a two tier chocolate cake! Who put two tiered chocolate cakes on the sidewalk?
We may be barbarians, but you wouldn't catch us disrespecting good food.
"Just leave the cars there and come and eat!" Gamma Endo ordered.
"Apologies Gamma." It was Owen who was the lead biker in the convoy, "Luna Bell wants to move his car into the Alpha Garage."
"We can't move the food. Put the car behind the packhouse." Gamma Endo pointed at the driveway next to the convoy.
"It has to be the Alpha Garage, Gamma." Owen stood his ground politely.
Yes, because my luna can't just park his car with EVERYONE ELSE.
Gamma Harry frowned, "I don't understand…"
"F***ing lorries." Gamma Endo told Owen who politely shrugged.
And then Gamma Endo turned around, "Where's the princess? I thought I saw her here somewhere?"
"Sam?" Gamma Harry turned around to look, "Where?"
It wasn't like my blue hair would help me blend in, especially since it's been waving in the breeze like a celebration banner since Mate's car had pulled up. I stepped off the pavement and onto the road to join the Gammas.
"Alpha Princess is here."
I turned around in surprise at Ki's voice. He was wearing his usual smile and standing just one step diagonally behind me - in the proper beta position.
This was when I also noticed Wolfgang and Barry in their guard positions. Dad was serious about not letting me walk about on my own.
Was it just me who found it ridiculous that they were letting Sabre run freely around while I couldn't take a step away from the family's picnic mat without an escort? There was only one reason for this - it wasn't that my parents thought any of the wolves here were dangerous. It was me that they were protecting the pack from. That had to be the only logical explanation for this security detail.
"Good, you're here." Gamma Harry nodded, "Please. Talk to your luna. We can't move the food."
"Look here, Harry." Endo stepped in front of me to block Gamma Harry off, "You can't tell the future alpha what to do."
"But I was very polite. I said 'please'. 'Please' is very polite." Gamma Harry protested.
Gamma Endo shook his head, "No, no, let me show you."
And then he turned to me and said, "Look here, princess. We can't move the food. Something is bound to spill. But your luna wants to park his car in the Alpha Garage. Tell me what you're going to do about it?"
I'm sure Gamma Endo meant this to be an example of respectfully submitting the situation to me as the alpha, but he just sounded like he was trying to pick a fight with me.
"You didn't say 'please'." Gamma Harry prompted.
"Please." Gamma Endo grumbled.
I had to exercise a lot of self-control to not laugh or turn around and check out Wolfgang's expression. Part of me half expected my tutor to start lecturing the Gammas on etiquette, but Wolfgang was uncharacteristically silent. The one thing I hated more than Wolfgang's constant lecturing was probably Wolfgang's unpredictable silence. Was Professor Hotstuff "observing" me again? The scrutiny was annoying.
Even more so than practically everyone else watching from the sidelines.
"I'm not telling you what to do, but go talk to your luna." Gamma Harry decided he should inform me. And then because he was determined to prove to Gamma Endo that he was a properly polite Gamma, he added, "Please. Okay?"
And I had to say, I was very impressed by how respectful Gamma Harry and Gamma Endo were being to me in front of everyone. Because we weren't Lorries (don't tell my parents I said that). We were the barbarian wolves next door. 'Please' WAS very polite.
I reached over to Bell's car door - on the passenger's side because Bell liked to wear a sling and pretend he couldn't use his arm whenever he was in his Lorent Prince mode.
Let's just say my luna was ECCENTRIC. Someone who had to continue wearing a sling like a fashion accessory would just have to park his stupid car at the Alpha's garage on the other end of the buffet road.
I pulled the car door open so that my Luna had to step out. I mean it was either that, or he continued sitting in the car looking up at me - and Bell was the type of guy who was more comfortable looking down on the person he was talking to. This didn't necessarily reflect on his character (although if it did, it would be accurate.)
"Bell!" I said the moment he stepped out.
"Princess." Bell merely nodded a charming bow and lifted the nearest lock of hair to his lips.
The sighs from the female onlookers were audible. I don't think they were even trying to be discreet about it. I shook my head in an attempt to remove my hair from his hand. I wasn't going to be fooled by Bell's charming façade. My mate was a lot of things, ladies, but he wasn't this lovely and charming gentle luna.
"You can't drive on this road right now." I don't even know why I had to tell him this. Wasn't it obvious? The road was closed. C.L.O.S.E.D.
"I need to move the car. Move the tables." Bell was, as usual, the boss.
Immediately the warriors returned to the tables to consider how they might shift everything without spilling anything.
"No. Wait." I said. I was, as always, the alpha.
The warriors stopped. They looked from Bell to me. Which annoyed me a bit. I was the Alpha! Why were they undecided?
"Why are you hesitating?" Bell demanded, "I said move the tables."
"But I said wait." I flared. I mean, seriously!
Now the warriors looked lost.
