The building was eerily quiet, as though it was completely empty. Jacob felt a tinge of anxiety assault his chest as he considered the possibility that they might be in the wrong place.
Miss Kane looked behind her, confirming that Jacob was with her, and then opened the door to top floor of the building with as much speed as she could manage without making noise.
She lifted her hand while stepping into the room, prepared to attack or defend if needed, but the empty space ahead held no threats. Jacob followed closely behind Miss Kane as she searched the seemingly empty floor and tried to cover her blind spots by mimicking the actions of police officers in the occasional movies he had seen throughout his life.
Apart from a supply closet on the far end of the room, there were no other doors on this floor, it was literally just one massive room that had an elevator shaft in the centre that doubled up as a support pillar.
