22. A Wrathful Battle

This brat said that he is from the Seere pillar. If I remember correctly, they are known for teleportation? 

Heh, does he think that he can win against me with a pathetically weak ability like teleportation? Hilarious. Every devil can use teleportation, what is so special about his?

"Are you two ready?" I nodded when Arfon asked. And so did the brat.

I took a defensive stance, while the worm… was just standing? What! Is he insulting me?!

Calm… Calm… I need to stay calm. He must be doing this to taunt me.

I specialize in defense, so I don't want to make the first move.

"Are you afraid of attacking brat?" I said, looking towards him

"Eh? Well, I guess I can." He said and teleported in front of me instantly.

I barely dodge the kick he threw. He is dangerous… extremely so. His agility will definitely be a problem.

Offense specialized devils have a disadvantage against me. But an agility specialist… is my nemesis.

Since I am against a speed-type. I cannot focus on defense alone. I will have to attack as well.

Concentrating demonic power around my fists I activate my barrier ability. My barrier ability is special, as I can mold it according to my wish. And currently, I created barriers around the fists in the form of boxing gloves. 

My barrier is very tough so it should work extremely well. And it is weightless so there should not be any difficulty in using them at all.

Enhancement is one of the most basic abilities. Since I am not a natural speed-type, I decided to use enhancement to increase my speed.

Using the enhanced speed, I rush towards the bored-looking guy. Concentrating demonic power around my fist, I increase the strength of the barrier gloves, before throwing a solid hook-punch. 

Despite the enhanced speed, my punch doesn't connect as he teleports behind me and throws a kick. 

Again… I easily stop it with my barrier. Barriers are overpowered, unless it's someone with enough strength to destroy a city, no one can break my barriers. 

He doesn't stop though, using enhancements he empowers his fists and throws continuous punches against my barrier… just to be severely disappointed. He couldn't even scratch my barrier. 

I thought he would be disappointed but no… he was smiling. By the time I realized why… it was already too late.

The barrier exploded, throwing me towards the wall. 

"*Cough* Y-you bastard... *Cough*"

He used [Demonic Charge]... But *Cough* how? That is an extremely advanced enhancement technique.

[Demonic Charge] is one of the twelve advanced forms of enhancement magic. It charges an object to the point the ionic bond explodes shattering the solid into molecules while causing an explosion with it.

Barely getting up, I used my demonic power to close the wounds.

"That was disappointing… To think that a noble devil like you would go down with just a single attack." He said with a genuinely disappointed look.

I felt my Sin of Wrath screaming at me to cut this worm into a thousand pieces. But I need to stay calm. Or I will lose. 

Maybe… No I-I cannot use that.

Enhancements… I can still use enhancements!

Taking deep breaths, I decided to use 'Brain Enhancement' more specifically [Limit Burst].

It is a last struggle move, but with my demonic powers, I should be able to handle it for twenty minutes. 

"This better be worth it." I felt myself mumbling before I used the technique.

And once I did…

I felt the adrenaline rush through my entire body, my senses were enhanced by multiple folds. I could hear the heartbeat of everyone around a certain radius. My vision was enhanced to the point that I could see even the dust particles that flew around us, which should have been invisible to the naked eye. To sum it up… every sense a devil has was increased to the point that not even an Ultimate-class devil could match.

The worm who was moving at a speed which seemed out of my reaction speed, now looked slower than a snail. 

That's my change.

Putting all my strength on the legs, I darted towards the worm. The sheer strength provided by [Limit Burst] was enough to crack the floor below me. 

This time, he wasn't able to react in time, so my punch connects sending him straight into a pillar. 

"*Guhh* That bloody hurts." He said with his face covered in blood. "If you want to play it like that… then I should get serious as well." He said… before he was surrounded by lightning. 

My eyes widen at the realization of what that lightning did to his body. The sparks and shock made his cells supercharged, making his speed even scarier than before. By just using the lightning, this guy was able to match my own speed. 

'Does it also have a backlash like mine? There is no way a move as strong as that is without any side-effects.'

I mumbled as both our fists collide, destroying parts of the arena. My enhancement and his lightning increased both of our strength, thus each attack is strong enough to destroy concrete with ease.

Our movements were fast, extremely fast. As I felt myself throwing over a dozen punches within a second and the worm was doing the same.

"Heh. You didn't expect that I would be able to keep up with you, now did you? You are pathetic, such strong barriers and you weren't even able to notice the [Demonic Charge]. Hilarious." His words were making me angrier and angrier. I felt my wrath sin activating, but I tried to suppress it. 

I didn't need it… yet.

"Punk. Say that after I kick your a*s." I said as I sent him flying with a kick.

So, he cannot use his teleportation ability when using lightning enhancement? That's good for me, because unlike him I can still use my barrier, even under [Limit Burst].

"You must be a disappointment… You cannot even use your barriers well. Maybe the council will take away your heir position." This snapped something inside me. 

I felt my 'Wrath Sin' laughing maniacally at me. After all, what he said was true. There were discussions about giving my heir position to my cousin. And this… worm was insulting me about my position? H-How dare he!

I felt my wrath leaking out. The Sin of Wrath laughing maniacally sending shivers down my spine. I felt it taking control over me. My eyes turned black-

…

...

 And before I knew it, I was fighting the worm using my barriers. He was bloody, I was bloody. 

I lost myself to wrath for just a fraction of time, but it turned out to be scarier than expected. 

'Weak' yes weak… that's what it told me. Who was it referring to? Me? Or the worm? I don't know. 

I felt pain rushing through my entire body. Both I and the worm coughed up blood. 

I fought the worm under the effect of 'Wrath' for a while… I cannot let that happen again.

"That… wasn't bad. But I can still keep going!" The worm said before letting out a roar.

His eyes changed into a weird pattern, his body was covered by black lightning. And he did something even scarier… he used [Limit Burst] on top of his current boosts provided by the lightning. 

There is no way he will survive this… But I cannot afford to get hit by anything he throws while under the effect of such abilities.

It has been over 17 minutes since I used [Limit Burst], So I only have 3 more minutes before the backlash gets me.

The sky turned dark as he teleported over a mile above me. The sky crackled, the temperature increased drastically and my body hair stood up. The electricity was affecting everything around it. 

With a smile the worm… No 'The Devil' rushed down the sky. The lightning around his body changed into a black Chinese dragon. The open mouth of the black dragon coming down to devour me. 

I never felt this scared my entire life. No… I refuse to lose now... There is no way I will give up. But there is only one way I can win… But I will lose something… something extremely precious in return. 

No… there is no time to think about it! I must use that move, otherwise, I will get devoured by this dragon.

Calm... calm. I took deep breaths… if not for my [Limit Burst] increasing my thought speed, I would have been dead even before I could think of moving a muscle.

There is no time. I will lose part of my soul using this… But it's better than death. Death in honor duels is not unheard of. But this guy… turned out to be better than I expected… far better. He does deserve respect.

The space around us cracked, as energy made of pure demonic energy rushed into my body. I gathered the power in front of me and it took the shape of a demon, a scary demon. Remembering that I cannot afford to lose any more time, I let the demon formed of pure demonic power rush towards the black dragon. The demon took part of my soul with as… As I felt my senses getting dull.

The collision of both the demon and the dragon was beyond my expectation. I thought the demon would easily devour the dragon… But I was wrong… totally wrong. 

The demon and the dragon were almost equal, their collision vaporized the entire arena, as well as a portion of the academy. If not for Arfon protecting the peasant girl and Diodora, both would have died. 

I was tired… tired to the point that I was barely able to stand. If he doesn't go down with this attack. I will not be able to continue.

But my worries vanished along with the dust, as both the dragon and the demon exploded.

As I looked up, the devil 'Shisui Seere' fell from the sky and crashed into the cold, hard ground… he was unconscious, unmoving, and cold. Was he dead? I do not know.

But I won… I finally won…

"Hah...hahha...Hahahahhahahh" I felt myself tired, yet kept on laughing like a madman. I have never fought such a difficult battle… Yet I felt great, I knew that I was going to be unconscious within a few seconds once the backlash gets me… but it was worth it.

"Hahahahha" I kept on laughing….
