Devil's Luck[Arc 5: Worlds Apart]

Zenkichi Hitoyoshi is a young man, destined to be chained by fate in the early story of canon. He was a man without ambition, drive, will and talent to become something great. Well, that'll soon change. For better, or for worse. .... AN: Alright, let's do this one last time, probably. Here's another Medaka Box fanfic that I hope it'll get to a hundred chapters before I drop it, or not? It depends on life really. And positive comments and reviews, I don't really care much of power stones(tho, that doesn't mean you can't...) but positive feedback on my work really inspires me more to write. Want to check out my pa-treon and be ahead of your fellow WN kin? Well here's the link: pa–treon.com/FroztDouluo *Just get rid of the dash. Edit: I just changed it to Gilgamesh because... Zenkichi basically almost resembles him at this point(I didn't planned for this happen) Schedule and the amount of chapters I'd be popping out? Tuesday and Thursday(UTC +8), 2–3 chapters a week(it's usually just 2 chapters because I'm slow at making anime related stories).

Chapter 108: Ozymandias

Zenkichi's eyes widened in shock and awe as he saw the pyramid before him.

"... I've got to admit, that looks cool." Brunhilde muttered.

Nitocris puffed up her chest, feeling proud at the looks of amazement and awe on their faces. "It's amazing, isn't it? That is the wonderful Great Temple Complex of the sun king, the king of kings, Ramesses II the Great! The embodied might of the great king, the Ramesseum Tentyris!" she proudly proclaimed, forgetting the fact that she was introducing a King of the Sun to the God of the Sun.

Zenkichi narrowed his eyes, silently circulating his divine power in his body. Even if it made his stomach churned crazily.

'Ozymandias... On a one on one unarmed combat, I'll certainly win but that's only because I can't recall him having any powerful skills in a direct confrontation. But if I enter his pyramid, I could tell... that I'll probably die once or twice.'

He hoped that a fight wouldn't break, for the sake of his bowels and dignity.

"Oh, so the king you were talking about was Ozymandias? No wonder he sounded familiar," Brunhilde tapped on her chin in thought.

'Hey Brunhilde, I'm curious about something.' Zenkichi asked, talking to her mentally with their mental link. 'Did King Arthur ever existed in your world? Or Beowulf? They're human and had legendary feats known throughout most of the world, so why weren't they chosen as Einherjar as well?'

He didn't want to insult the people Brunhilde chose but, really? Tesla?

'... Yes, King Arthur and Beowulf are real. And I did want them to be Einherjars, but they were... claimed by their respective Gods and was thus unable to fight for humanity.'

'Claimed?' He titled his head at her.

'Yes, claimed. You know that people who die goes to an afterlife to the religion they believed in, with Helheim being the default for atheists. For both kings, they had accumulated many good karma from the deeds they achieved in their lifetime so they were claimed by God to be his warrior angels and has thus cut off their connection with the mortal world. It's a different circumstance for each hero, and unfortunately, they were not able to join the Einherjar ranks like you and the others,' Brunhilde explained through their mental link.

Zenkichi nodded in understanding.

'Wait, I actually about something important. Brunhilde, whatever happened to God? The God in the Bible? What's his stance on the whole Ragnarok thing and the extinction of humanity?'

It had been on his mind when he was on her reality and saw a few people that looked like angels, though it was only briefly.

'... God is dead, Zenkichi. The one in my reality, that is.' Brunhilde replied solemnly. 'Long ago, in a great cataclysmic event known as the Primordial Divine War, the Abrahamic God perished along with many other deities from various mythologies. The exact circumstances of His demise are shrouded in mystery, but the aftermath was devastating. Without His presence, the other God Kings could hold absolute power over the other deities and the angels that once served Him.'

Zenkichi listened intently, his expression reflecting a mixture of shock and sadness at Brunhilde's words. The death of a deity, especially one as central to many belief systems as the Abrahamic God, was a monumental event with far-reaching consequences.

'No wonder he wasn't there. Still, what kind of... threat were they facing that ended His life and many other Gods?'

Brunhilde frowned and shook her head, 'I'm sorry Zenkichi... but sharing this information to anyone else, even if they're a God, is extremely taboo. It would kill me.'

'I understand,' Zenkichi responded solemnly through their mental link. He understood the gravity of the situation and the importance of keeping certain knowledge hidden, even from fellow gods.

'No need to apologize, Brunhilde. I won't press any further,' Zenkichi assured her, a sense of respect for her boundaries evident in his tone.

Brunhilde nodded gratefully, her expression softening slightly. 'Thank you, Zenkichi. Your understanding means a lot to me.' she paused for a moment and let out a sigh. 'But, the most I could tell you, is that it involves the strongest deities and those of... outer origins.'

'Outer...?! That means,' Zenkichi widened his eyes in realization, connecting the dots.

'I get it, but what about the strongest deities are you talking about exactly?'

'Zenkichi, do you know the... grandparents of Zeus? Of Odin? Of Amaterasu?' Brunhilde inquired, her tone tinged with a hint of apprehension.

Zenkichi's brows furrowed as he pondered the question. 'The grandparents of Zeus... Odin... Amaterasu...' He paused, his mind racing as he tried to recall any mention of such figures from his extensive knowledge of mythology and history.

After a moment of contemplation, Zenkichi's eyes widened in realization. 'You mean the primordial gods, the ancient beings who existed before even the Olympians, Aesir, and Shinto gods?' he ventured.

Brunhilde nodded solemnly. 'Yes, precisely. They are beings of immense power, far beyond anything we can comprehend. It is said that they were the ones who shaped the very fabric of the cosmos, laying the foundations upon which all other gods and beings were born.'

Zenkichi's expression grew serious as he considered the implications of Brunhilde's words. The thought of beings even more powerful than the gods he knew was a sobering realization.

Though he also wondered, without relaying it to Brunhilde, if the system came from a primordial being.

'But wait a minute, if the Abrahamic God is dead... then how were king Arthur and Beowulf claimed then?'

'Well, this is just a secret only the God King's and high ranking officials in heaven know. But before the Abrahamic God died, he left behind a... system of sorts, it had a bit of his will so it could help judge someone for either Heaven or Hell. That system also chooses a human, who had archived great good deeds in their life, a chance of becoming an Angel.'

'Huh, makes sense.' He scratched his cheek and looked up at the sky, especially the giant ring in the sky.

'...If those primordial gods were involved in the Primordial Divine War, then it's no wonder that even the Abrahamic God fell in battle,' Zenkichi mused, his voice tinged with a hint of awe.

Brunhilde nodded gravely. 'Indeed, their involvement in the conflict would have tipped the scales decisively. Whatever their motives may have been, their actions have shaped the destiny of my world and the fate of all who inhabit it.'

'Well, it did result with the remaining Gods wanting to eradicate Humanity.'

Brunhilde's eye twitched.

'While ours haven't done shit. Is it because they don't give a damn or they're just more benevolent?'

'...'

'Or is it that such a war did not happen in my universe and others, meaning that the primordial beings and the Abrahamic God are still alive.'

Brunhilde scoffed, 'Yeah, not possible.'

'Why not?'

'Well, you're here.'

'...'

"Dear great divine guests,"

Nitocris interjected, breaking the tense silence that had settled between Zenkichi and Brunhilde. "We have arrived at the entrance to the Great Temple Complex. Shall we proceed inside?"

Zenkichi and Brunhilde exchanged a knowing glance, silently acknowledging the need to set aside their discussions for the time being. There were more pressing matters at hand.

Such as getting this man a toilet!

"Ehem, Nitocris. Please postpone my meeting with your king until tomorrow," Zenkichi proclaimed, a dignified expression on his face. Subtly turning his sweat into steam.

'Please... I... can't hold on... any longer....'

Nitocris blinked, visibly confused, and started stammering. "B-B-But, my lord, the king has been eagerly awaiting your arrival! Are you certain you wish to delay the audience?"

Zenkichi's expression remained resolute, despite the discomfort gnawing at him. "Yes, Nitocris. I'm afraid it's urgent. I must attend to a matter of utmost importance before I can meet with your king."

Brunhilde, sensing Zenkichi's distress, chimed in. "Nitocris, please understand. My... lord, has been slightly exhausted from fighting those unruly knights earlier." She leaned in to her ear and whispered, "He might not show it, he's a God after all, but trekking through the desert for many months without eating, drinking, a comfortable bed and having to fight high class servants... please understand."

A complete lie but she didn't need to know.

Nitocris hesitated for a moment, torn between her duty to her king and her fear of displeasing Zenkichi.

Ultimately, she nodded in acquiescence. "Very well, my lord. I will inform the king of your request. Please, let us make haste to attend to your needs."

'I hope Ozymandias understand.' She thought, inwardly crying.

With Nitocris's understanding, Zenkichi felt a wave of relief wash over him.

'Finally...!!'

"Please, follow me to your room," Nitocris said, leading the way with a respectful bow. Zenkichi followed closely behind, grateful for the chance to rest and recuperate before facing any further challenges.

As they walked through the grand halls of the Great Temple Complex, Zenkichi couldn't help but marvel at the ancient architecture and intricate carvings that adorned the walls. Despite his discomfort, he found himself growing increasingly fascinated by the history and culture of this legendary place.

Eventually, they arrived at a spacious chamber appointed with luxurious furnishings and a comfortable bed. Nitocris gestured for Zenkichi to make himself at home, offering a warm smile.

"Please, my lord, take all the time you need to rest and refresh yourself," Nitocris said, her voice filled with genuine concern.

Zenkichi nodded gratefully and entered solemnly with Brunhilde behind him, the latter closing the door behind them as they stepped into the chamber. The room was dimly lit by flickering torches, casting dancing shadows across the ornate walls.

Zenkichi took one appreciated look at the bed before looking around the chamber and locking his gaze at a certain door with a... modern bathroom inside it.

"...I've decided to help out Ozymandias."

"Huh? Et tu, Zenkichi? What about the Last Master? Fixing this world?"

"We shall fix this world, with the judgement of the Sun."

"..." Brunhilde stared at him in disbelief at his choice of words. "So, you're saying that we should help Ozymandias in... whatever he's planning to do?"

"YUP!" Zenkichi replied before heading into the bathroom, leaving Brunhilde to shake her head.

.....

"Hmph, so this is the Divine Spirit that I've sensed from afar..." Ozymandias narrowed his eyes from his golden throne, his chin resting on his fist. As this pyramid was basically like his Reality Marble, but manifested into the physical plane, he could see every ongoings within it. He was a God in this place, he could even inflict a serious injury on his guests with their guards down.

But no, he was no coward or snake.

Although Zenkichi delayed his meeting with Ozymandias, it didn't anger him. He could sensed the strange discomfort from the Divine Spirit so he let it go and casually waved off Nitocris' report.

But what really got him into thinking, was their identity.

As the Sun King and incarnation of Ra, he had the ability to see through the truth of the world and even a bit into the future. It's why he could see the arrival of the last master of this world in this singularity to fix it and save the world from the... supposed king of magecraft.

But this... Zen, a God of the Sun and a whole other arsenal of abilities, he couldn't recognize him. Not a single record of him in the world's history was ever recorded. And that Brunhilde... she wasn't like the Brunhilde he recalled from history and the throne.

That could only mean one thing, they were outsiders.

'Has the situation really fallen that deep for the Magician of the Kaleidoscope to interfere?' Ozymandias looked up at the ceiling, his gaze piercing and alight with a golden glow.

A wide grin spread across his lips as he burst out laughing, causing his head to slid across from his neck but he quickly caught his head on time.

"How amusing, how utterly amusing! So that's how it is. Very well, I'll play along with you... only because I have grown bored sitting here for so long."
