The next day, Lila had been discharged but had requested to be taken back home rather than to the Knight's mansion. Apparently, she was giving Tyson the silent treatment and needed space to process all that happened the previous day.
On the other hand, Skylar and Tyson were to go meet his family together. They heard about his marriage on the news and needed answers and also needed to see the so called wife and if she was really worthy of Tyson.
Skylar, sensing fully well that she would not be liked no matter what she did, decided not to put in so much effort in dressing up. She wore a simple flower patterned A cut dress and packed her hair in a messy bun. She put on a light and simple makeup; that consisted of only eyeliner, lip liner, lip gloss and powder. After being satisfied with how she looked, she left for the hospital.
When Tyson was done with signing the necessary documents, they left the hospital together.
"How do I look?"
"Really? You're asking me now, on our way to see my family?"
"Eh." She shrugged nonchalantly. "I really don't care what they'll think about my dressing but I love wearing comfortable outfits that I can walk and breathe in. Either way, how do I look?"
"It's girly."
"And?" Skylar arched her brow.
"You don't give off the vibe of a feminine person. Your aura is masculine. Like that of an Alpha. I don't know if that makes any sense, though."
"It does." Skylar smiled widely. "It makes a lot of sense." From there on, the ride was a quiet one.
After driving for about an hour, they finally arrived at the Knight's mansion. It was humongous. Even from the distance she could see just how high the buildings were. After verifying it was Tyson, the guards opened the gate and he drove in and into the garage. Tyson turned off the engine of his car and glanced briefly at Skylar.
"Ready?"
"Let's just get this over with."
"Before we go in, I have just one advice for you. Don't run your mouth."
Skylar grinned mischievously. "Not making any promises."
Tyson shook his head and sighed. He was just going to have to deal with the consequences of whatever happened. Together they walked out of the car and headed for the door leading to the entrance.
Once they stepped into the foyer, waiting for them was a tall, slender and beautiful woman dressed in tight pants and a tank top. She had on a Bob cut and a very deep frown on her face.
"Hi, Mom." Tyson said and rushed out again, leaving just his mom and Skylar alone in the foyer.
"Welcome home, son." She responded without taking her eyes off Skylar, silently assessing her.
Michelle looked at the woman in the flower patterned dress and sallow face with bored eyes. No matter what one would say, you couldn't associate your excellent son with such a woman. She looked to be way beneath her Tyson.
Going over what Lila had told her earlier when she had called, it was this woman who had forced her son to marry her and she couldn't help but get angry. No amount of good upbringing and self control could conceal her anger at the moment.
"Skylar, right? Do you think such a twisted marriage will be happy? A marriage done only out of convenience?
Skylar said nothing since the person in front of her was Tyson's mother and she didn't want to disrespect her. No matter how tough she sounded and acted, she knew when not to cross the line.
Unexpectedly, her silence aggravated Michelle's anger and her nose flared up. "Don't think you can be with Tyson just because you have a marriage certificate. I won't allow you to be a part of the Knight family. I will never acknowledge your marriage."
When she heard this, Skylar looked up into Michelle's eyes solemnly, calm and firm.
"It really doesn't matter ma'am and I really don't care. As long as I am married to Tyson, it doesn't matter if you approve of it or if you refuse to acknowledge me as a Knight." She said calmly, no malice or contempt in her voice.
Michelle sneered and turned her nose up in disgust. "Well, if Tyson wasn't the heir-to-be of the Knight family, will someone like you have married him? Will someone like you have given him a second glance if he wasn't swimming in wealth?" The tone of disdain in her voice did not come as a shock to her. It was completely expected but she wasn't going to just stand there and let his mom disrespect her.
Skylar suddenly decided to let out a little bit of her anger. Enough for his mom to know she was starting to cross the line but not enough to appear disrespectful. She tightened her lip line. "You know nothing about me Mrs. Knight so please do not assume things about me. I won't try to convince you that my reasons for marrying your son was not for financial purposes because it will be pointless, but please ma'am don't just assume that I am a gold digger because I am not. I am not interested in the Knight wealth or your son's. I'm well to do on my own."
After all, when she met Tyson for the very first time, he was not the son of the Knight family at all. If she could, she'd rather he'd never been a Knight, just her Tyson.
Michelle was born into a large family and married into the Knight family as an adult. When was Michelle ever spoken to in that manner? No one dared speak to her in such a way but here was this woman, brave enough to say such in her face. She felt greatly insulted and was immediately fuming with anger.
"Well, you are so ambitious and have your own reason for wanting to be a part of the Knight family but you should not contradict your mother-in-law and disrespect your elders. Come then, be a part of the family! You are very much welcome!" She said with contempt. Skylar on the other hand, was not moved.
"Mabel!" She yelled and the maid quickly rushed in. "Do you think the rich and powerful are so easy to marry?"
"Of course I do. I see no difference between the rich and the poor. We're all humans after all."
"Why you..." She gritted her teeth as she glared down at Skylar. She raised her palm but Skylar didn't even flinch.
"Do whatever you want to me Mrs. Knight. You don't scare me."
A second later, a loud smack was heard echoing around the room. Mabel winced, feeling sorry for Skylar. She had lost count of how many times she had been on the receiving end of Michelle's slaps.
Skylar's cheek had started to turn red from the impact and the imprint of Michelle's fingers could be seen on her face. A second later, another slap landed on her other cheek and then another and another, over and over again. If Lila could see her, her joy would know no bounds.
"ENOUGH!" A loud booming voice said that stopped Michelle in her tracks just as she was about to give her another slap. "I left her alone with you for five freaking minutes and you abuse her?! How could you mom?!" Tyson snapped.
Skylar blinked as he slowly came into focus. She had started to feel dizzy from the impact of the slaps and her head had started to hurt badly.
"She has no right to force you to marry her! No right for her to be a part of the family."
"That is not for you to decide! It's my marriage not yours and that is not an excuse for your abuse. Apologize!"
"How dare you speak to me in that manner Tyson?! Has this tramp bewitched you?!"
"APOLOGIZE!" He yelled out loud, scaring even Michelle.
Michelle turned back to face Skylar. "I'm... I'm sorry."
Skylar barely heard a thing, her ears were starting to ring real bad and the dizziness had got even worse.
"I don't feel so good." She murmured, barely even hearing herself.
"Shit! Mabel call the Doctor. Tell him it's an emergency." Mabel nodded and ran out of the living area to make the call.
"Tyson." Michelle called, suddenly feeling bad about the whole thing.
For a moment, he refused to turn around.
"Please Tyson, I was just really blinded by anger and I overreacted. You know I didn't really mean to."
"Enough mother. Now isn't the time for your pity."
"Tyson?" Skylar called softly and then passed out in his arms.
"Skylar?" He called and shook her gently. "Hey Skylar, wake up."
"God damnit Mother! You know she just had her kidney transplanted. Couldn't you have cut her some slack?!"
Without another word, Tyson carried her in his arms and upstairs. He walked into the Master's bedroom which happened to be his room and placed her gently on the bed. Softly, he tucked her hair behind her ear and sat down on the bedside stool as he waited for the Doctor to arrive.
