The beginning

*A thousand years before the present day*

"Azarath, where are you?!" a creature which resembled a wolf screamed as it glowed a light blue. Its size was the size of a mountain and its body blazed with burning blue flames.

It was facing off against a demon creature which stood on its hind legs with six arms sticking on its sides. Eyes glowing red with its body bringing out black flames.

They stood growling before zipping into each other, clashing with all their might. Their combined strength leveled the mountains and the trees as lava flowed from the ground with the heavens breaking with lightning and thunder.

"You will lose, spirit wolf," the demon growled, pushing the wolf back as the wolf created new arms to match against the demon's other arms. "Humanity will be mine, and I will rule over them as I see fit."

"The gods put us on this planet to protect humans from threats all round. Who gave you the right to make yourself god and crown yourself as one?"

"I did," the demon grew out a tail to slap the wolf who grew out its own tail to block the attack. "You adapt fast spirit wolf. But there is a reason we were damned from heaven and made to be on this planet. I will show you what we demons are capable of."

The demon created clones of itself before jumping away from its opponent. It circled the wolf with its three clones before jumping on it to attack it.

Almost immediately, lightning struck the clones, sending the original flying far off into the distance.

The wolf looked behind it to see what had caused the lightning, only to find an army of spirit wolves standing at the ready with a lead wolf standing in front of the group with a crown on its head.

"Azarath!" the spirit wolf yelled in joy as it ran to the leader with the crown.

"You are injured, Carter," Azarath sighed. "You will need to sit this one out."

"I can fight…"

"No little brother," negated the wolf leader. "There are some fights you will need a pack for. Sit this one out and I will make sure the demons are sent back to the pit of hell whence they came from."

Carter nodded before running off into the distance, leaving the other wolves to worry about the threat.

Azarath paced towards the fallen demon as demons started to show up from the shattered mountains around.

"Did you think I was alone?" the demon chuckled.

"I was counting on whatever plan you had going on," the wolf smiled as lightning struck the demon, turning it into ash.

The demons around jumped on the wolves, but they were no match for the wolves for they zipped around making quick work of the threats.

When the wolves were done, they heard someone clapping in the distance.

Azarath squinted to see a horde of humans walking towards him.

"Are those… humans?" he asked in surprise. "And they can… see us?"

"Apparently so, alpha," a wolf behind him answered.

The human stopped clapping as it gave a mocking bow, "It is an honor to see the great Azarath, but if I might add, from the perspective of a human, you look bigger than the biggest mountain on the earth. Have you ever seen that being possible?"

Azarath raised a brow as it relaxed, "You are a demon in a… human. Why would you fuse with a creature we were charged with protecting?"

"No, you were charged with protecting the humans," corrected the human. "You and all your spirit wolves go around ruining my plans. Killing off my minions. Why don't I stop playing fair and be what you're supposed to protect?"

"If you are that human, then I don't think it is in my place to protect it anymore," he turned to his wolf soldiers. "Kill all humans possessed by the spirits and make sure to be quick about it. There are other things I have to focus on."

He started to walk away as his subordinate stopped him in his tracks.

"But sire," his subordinate said. "Don't you think there has to be a way to get rid of the demons in humans? They are innocent and have no idea they have been possessed."

As it was still talking, red lightning from the hordes of humans shot through the wolf, bringing it down to its knees.

"Homer!" Azarath yelled, his voice thundering through the fields, but his subordinate was dead. Its body melted slowly into the earth, turning into water.

Azarath turned to see what had caused the killing shot and found it to be from the human who had spoken to him earlier.

"Fascinating isn't it?" the human laughed. "I get to use my powers to the fullest, being able to turn myself into a weapon of destruction."

Azarath found other humans taking out bows and arrows aiming them at the spirit wolves.

"What are you doing, Roman?" the spirit wolf asked, with its eyes widened.

"Ridding the world of creatures like you," Roman said with a conviction in his voice. "Fire your weapons."

The humans let their weapons fly as the arrows pierced through the wolves, killing many of the creatures.

Azarath created a barrier of lightning which shielded him and a few wolves, but when the dust had settled, and he had a look around, he found it sad to see his comrades down on the dirt.

He had lost a lot of warriors.

With a cry of war, he blitzed into every human, decapitating them until only their leader remained.

"How did you…?" Roman gasped while looking around.

"You forget who you are dealing with," Azarath thundered. "I am the leader of the spirit wolves and you Roman are condemned to death."

Roman was not ready to go down without a fight, and he prepared to blitz into the giant wolf.

"I will end you here and now," the demon hissed.

"I'd like to see you try," Azarath growled back.
