Chapter 3:Magic and Attribute
Hailey was shocked by Rex's words that she has been using her ability all along. To the best of her knowledge, she has never shown any superhuman traits. Regardless she immediately became excited to find out what it is and how to use magic." Hey I know you just saved my life but would you mind teaching me magic", she asks smiling.
Rex looks into her eyes and says, "sure I don't see why I can't teach you and besides with an attribute like yours it will be interesting".
Hailey immediately became excited but managed to keep herself from bouncing around. Rex of course could feel her excitement so he did not delay. First, he explained how magic is separated into two main parts. One is the element that has seven possibilities and the other attributes which there are near-infinite. Attributes can be used with an element to create special effects. For example, if someone has a blood attribute was to use the fire element. The result would be a flame that ignites from blood. That being the case it can be said that for every attribute there are hundreds of possibilities for magic.
Still the main is a person's attribute meaning unless they are talented there will be some limits. As she was listening Hailey continuously nodded her head. Finally, she couldn't hold back anymore so she asked, "since the attribute is so important why haven't you could mine yet". Hearing her question Rex realized that he had forgotten to tell her.
"Sorry I was so focused on explaining how magic works that I forgot to let you know about your potential", he paused "Your attribute is a pretty rare one that when used correctly is quite strong. Your attribute is misfortune or infortunii".
Rex was surprised that all of her excitement completely disappeared after he told her what her attribute is. During his research into magic he learned about quite a few different attributes. Of course one of them was misfortune. Misfortune is actually considered a close cousin to the curse attribute. It's main feature is that it causes people to suffer bad luck. This feature unfortunately also applies to the owner as well. Unless they were to meet a powerful master most with this attribute would normally cause their death. With that in mind, it can be said that Hailey is quite lucky. Currently, there are very few that are stronger than Rex. It was only after a few minutes of silence that Hailey recovered from her shock.
"Since my attribute is misfortune does that mean I can not learn magic", she asked cautiously.
"What are you talking about, of course, you can still learn magic. One part of magic is learning to control your attribute and besides misfortune is actually one of the most powerful", he responded.
After he said that he then went on to explain all of the benefits she would get from her attribute. The more she listened the better her expression became. Finally she could no longer hold back her excitement and started to beg him to teach her. Without any further delay he started to teach her magic. A brief test revealed that she has an affinity with dark and water elements. With that out of the way it was finally time to explain magic cultivation. To be honest the process is to simply first form a mana core. Then you just pour mana in it. Of course later stages will have special requirements. Hailey was impressed as she listened to him explaining even the way her mana should circlet. This was another thing he discovered in his research that happens improve one's body. It was only after a few hours of hard work that Hailey formed her mana core. Once it was formed she could already feel it was constantly being enhanced. "Now that I have formed my core can you start teaching me spells" she excitedly questioned.
"Normally you would have to figure out one on your own unless we have the same attribute. Luckily for you I can use any attribute I wish so I can show you one", Rex answered.
When she heard his words Hailey instantly became curious about what Rex's attribute was. Before he taught her Rex had them move to some other spot. Once there he told her the method of how to combine her attribute how an element. After a hour filled with several failures she finally managed to create a ball of water. As for what it did according to Rex anyone hit by it would suffer water based bad luck. Originally she thought it was a little weak until Rex went into deeper detail. To summarize it would make the target loss their resistance to water. As for the fact they could also end up slipping in a puddle Hailey ignored that for now. By this point in time the sun was already settling so Hailey invited Rex to stay for the night. Since he got to know her, Rex decided it should be fine to stay for the night. That night Rex went on guiding Hailey on magic cultivation. Before long it was time for them to get some sleep. As Hailey was a sleep Rex spent the time trying to think about what he will do later on. Right now he has two main choices. He could either stay with Hailey or leave. If he had to be completely honest he would rather stay with her,but he was worried if she was OK with that. It would not surprise him if she wanted him gone as soon as the sun rises in the morning.
Meanwhile, Hailey, who should be sleeping, was wide awake thinking about how to keep Rex from leaving. Rex was the first person in this world that has been kind to her since the apocalypse started. Not only did he save her life but even taught her some magic. Hailey desperately wanted him to stay but she thought someone like him wouldn't need her. As her mind wondered a thought randomly crossed her mind 'what if she swore to be his servant'. Immediately she felt embarrassed such a thought came in her mind. Something about Rex mind feel only natural that she submit to him. This feeling while being strange it was not unpleasant. Likely due to the fact that it gave her a sense of security. At that moment she did something she hasn't done in months. She fell asleep and it wasn't a light one either.
