Chapter Three | Awakening

Blood started rushing back up my throat and I started violently coughing it up onto the paramedic. I wanted to scream, but nothing would come out. My body felt like I was being boiled alive, my heart was ready to explode and I could barely breathe.

My head started killing me, it felt like something was breaking through my skull. I wanted to grab it, but I couldn't move. I could feel my teeth being forced out of my mouth, hearing them fall onto the metal floor, then something growing in their place. Along with everything that was happening, I could see my fingernails growing.

All of these happening together, the pain was going to kill me.

'I can't take much more of this!'

I was about to pass out from all the pain, but the pain suddenly stopped. I could move and breathe easily again. I looked up at the ceiling and closed my eyes, taking deep breaths.

'It is finally over, I survived.'

When I opened my eyes I was greeted by what looked like a video game screen.

Once I said that my head started killing and I collapsed to the floor of the ambulance. I grabbed my head and could feel my nails digging into it, causing my head to bleed.

I was laying in a pool of black, boiling liquid and could see in the reflection of a cabinet that's what was coming out where my nails were digging into my head and dripping from my mouth. It was my blood. My blood was not the only thing that had changed, my whole appearance has become different, demonic.

My vibrant red hair had become a snow white, while my eyes were now a light purple and pure red, the pupils slit like a cat's eyes. The teeth that had fallen out were replaced by fangs, but the most worrisome thing was what was that I had two small horns coming out of my skull.

The pain in my head finally stopped. I grabbed the stretcher to help me sit up and my hand was covered in the black blood. When I was finally sitting up a horde of screens filled my view.

'God how many screens are there?! Just go away!'

When I yelled that in my mind I didn't actually think they'd go away, but they started vanishing one by one. Once they were all gone I saw the paramedic sitting there. She was just looking at me like she was used to this.

Before either of us could say anything my body started to hurt all over again, a little less painful than before. I started coughing up the black, boiling blood that slowly turned red. My nails and fangs started falling out and onto the floor, where they then started to grow back.

The most painful part was the horns. I could feel them retracting to the base of my skull and as that happened they scratched against my brain, which caused the pain to go over tenfold. Once the pain was gone I looked at a cabinet, I looked normal again.

I looked human again.

"Are you done?" The paramedic asks.

"Huh?" I say.

"Are you done with your 'Fit' is what I mean." She says.

"I think so?" I answer, unsure of myself.

"Let me guess, this is the first time this has happened?" She asks.

"Y-yea." I stutter.

"My name is Monica Lex." She tells me, "Listen, I'm assuming you went through something that changed your life. I also remember hearing on the radio that a young girl was taken near where you were found." Monica says, "I'm guessing that she's your family and I would recommend going after her right now since you seem in good health and all."

"Do you know where the report came from?!" I shout.

"It was near StoneCold if I remember correctly." She tells me.

"Thank you!" I tell her, standing up and starting to open the ambulance doors.

"Before you go…. Take this." She says to me, handing me a card, "When you can, come and see me here."

"Yea." I tell her, opening the door.

"Stop the ambulance Billy!" Monica yells at the driver.

"Huh? Why?" He says to her.

"Because I said so!" She yells.

The ambulance stops and I quickly jump out and start heading to StoneCold. As I got further away I could hear Monica yell in the background.

"Billy get back here!" She yells at him

"Coming! What's going on?" He yells coming to the back of the ambulance, "W-what are you doing?! Monica!"

After that, I heard a loud thud, like a body hitting the ambulance floor.

'Please tell me she didn't just kill him.'

Even though I was thinking that I needed to get to StoneCold and find my sister.
