Chapter 10

Trevor was glad that at least, he got the support of the older men and the female villagers. They all liked his idea; regardless of this, there were still some who were apprehensive considering the fact that the only young men who were capable of putting up a fight and protecting the villagers would be leaving. But they said nothing about it. What had to be done, had to be done.

The sun was just rising, the cock just waking, another new day was here. In the darkness of a new dawn, 4 silhouettes could be seen moving out of the comfort of the village. Each one of them having one thought in mind 'will we succeed?' unfortunately, only time could answer that question.

Liza had woken up to the rustling of the fire that was made not too far from where she slept. Looking straight ahead, she was met with a sight that was normally portrayed in movies or comical novels. An exquisitely handsome man was roasting a piece of meat with a smile on his face. The rays from the sun hitting down on his face give him an unearthly charm. She was for a moment, lost as she stared at what appeared to be a scene straight out from a movie. " You're awake" his voice startled her out of her daze. Against her will, she replied "yes" He chuckled and said " you know, for a talented assassin, you sure know how to wake up early" he said with a grin on his already breathtaking face. She just frowned her face trying hard not to laugh. She couldn't say she trusted him and she didn't want to give the impression that they could get along. So she just kept a cold and indifferent face towards him. 'This is going to be harder than I thought' he said to himself realizing that he was the only one laughing and that he couldn't get as much as a smile from her. He knew his joke was funny so, either she didn't like him, or she was a good actress and could really hide her emotions. He hoped it was the latter.

After walking for five hours without rest, they finally decided to rest for some time. Under the watchful gaze of Trevor, Frank sniffed the air for some time and said "If we rest at a five hour interval for 30 mins, we should be able to get there in 10 hours." That was his way of telling them that they could only rest for thirty mins. Bella looked like she wanted to say something but bit her lip and said nothing. She wanted to complain but she also didn't want to be seen as a burden. Frank's voice echoed again " we can't afford to stay till night fall." Trevor understood what this meant. Of course they had talked about the beast around these areas. Beasts that only came out at night so if they dared to stay, not only would they have to cope with the cold, they'd also have to cope with Ferocious beasts. They walked on and on with Frank taking the lead. ' The inevitable will occur' Frank thought to himself. Just as he was about to talk, Trevor beat him to it. " we'll camp here. It's useless trying to get there before nightfall. Besides we'll take turns in watching. One person stays up while the rest will sleep." "And her?" this time Luca spoke. "What about her?" Trevor asked with a raised eyebrow. If what Luca was going to ask was what was on his mind, then he'll be damned. "Will she be taking part in keeping watch?" "No" it was Frank who replied him. As he was about to retort, Trevor spoke again "She's a lady Luca and she's the reason we can make this trip." He immediately kept quiet and didn't say anything else but he still grumbled. Some minutes later, they all sat around a fire to keep warm. "it sure is cold out here." Trevor said. "hmmph" Luca snorted coldly. He was enjoying the warmth of a woman and he still complained. Frank looked at him and a glint of jealousy flashed in his eyes. It was only for a moment and soon, he had that nonchalant expression on his face. Bella just clung tightly onto Trevor. They had had their dinner and she didn't mind falling asleep in his hands. As for the cold, she had been through worse weather conditions but she had to play her cards right so occasionally, she would shiver ever so slightly causing Trevor to tighten his grip around her. She was so close to his chest. listening to his heart beat, she fell asleep. Soon, he joined her after saying good night to the men. He gently placed her head on his broad chest and went to sleep hoping that he would meet his mother. Sensing that Trevor was asleep, Luca looked at Frank and said why don't you rest for a bit partner? I'll keep awake." "Nah, I don't feel so sleepy" Luca had a mischievous smile on his face as he said " why you need me to cuddle you?" Frank stood up and walked 5 feet away from them and said to Luca in a semi playful and semi threatening voice " don't come any closer or else I'll cut off your little soldier." this prompted Luca to let out a loud laugh. "shhh. you'll wake them up." he made an 'ohh' gesture and covered his mouth with his right hand. Right now, these two men were behaving strange. Normally, Luca was the talkative one while Frank was more reserved but presently Frank was the one bringing up the dirty jokes. They talked and talked as they ignored the two couples that were sleeping beside them. They didn't notice how ever so slowly, the sun was creeping it's way up to the night sky and snatching the moon's position. They didn't notice it but unlike what Frank thought, no one else kept watch asides him and Luca. It was dawn and The two couples were slowly getting up.
