Leon's face was priceless, he mocked his own intelligence. He lived in Sun Moon Sect grounds for five years and didn't even know about its history.
"Well, I can't blame you," Marcus sighed. "This knowledge is a well-kept secret, even most goons of the sect don't know that, let alone common folks."
Leon slightly laughed inwardly. 'I am also one of those goons.' He thought about something. "So sect is managing the kingdoms behind the scenes then," he asked.
"No! it's more complicated than that," Marcus said. "Kingdoms are independent, and sect can't interfere with their governing process. In the case of kingdom faces a danger of extinction, only then sect interferes. This rule was created by the founding fathers of the sect. They feared if one branch belonging to certain kingdom becomes more powerful, it might control all kingdoms and other three kingdoms will perish. So to prevent that, this rule was established."
Leon also approved their procedures. 'That is what I would do as well.'
However, this created more problems. If he wanted to enter the Tristone mountain, he would have to infiltrate the royal family. But he wasn't sure whether he could successfully do it or not, though he had death facade ability, he didn't know the extent of it, and if those with higher realm could be fooled.
"And what about revolution?" Leon said, lifting his hands and rubbing his chin. "What if someone manages to cause a revolution?"
"That's impossible!" Marcus said, shaking his head. "Founders had already thought about it, so they created a social structure which makes it practically impossible to assemble large-scale revolution. Furthermore, they have insiders at every level of society who make sure that even smallest spark of rebellion is extinguished before it turns into flame."
"So, Kingdom never faced revolution?" Leon said, narrowing his eyes. "Royal family doesn't seem like the benevolent kind, some people definitely must be unhappy with them."
"They have," Marcus said, with anger in his voice. "But those rebels are divided and don't co-operate with each other. They even have traitors inside, and those traitors directly work for the royal family."
Leon was shocked, no wonder those rebels never succeeded. For any organization, traitors and spies are the biggest nightmares, not only their plans would not work, they are bound to face an unexpected set back at any time. Furthermore, they are weak and disorganized, to begin with.
"Damn!" Marcus cursed, his face twisted and breathing hardened. "If it wasn't for those traitors, I wouldn't have been caught at the first place."
Leon finally understood, and those last words gave him a general situation of this man. Marcus surely was the part of some rebellion group and probably was betrayed by some traitor.
"Shh! Someone is coming," Leon said.
Leon already had death sense, not to mention his super-heightened senses after gaining the new supernatural body. He heard the sound of several footsteps, coming from the behind of the main iron-gate. He could even hear an angry shout from one of those men.
*tap tap tap*
THUD!
The door pulled open, several guards following behind a handsome middle-aged man could be seen. From the man's clothes, he could tell that this man belonged to some nobility or even royal family. But his biggest suspicion was that Lord Kesler. From the words of that officer–Yale back then, he knew that Kesler would personally come to welcome him.
Indeed, his suspicion came to reality. Those men walked towards him and stopped at his cell. Suddenly, three guards came forward, one opened the door while others entered the door and came straight at him.
He looked at these two guards, and before he could think or say anything, both of them furiously kicked his each lower leg respectively, which caused him to lose his footing and kneel on the ground. Finally, they pointed their spears at him, hinting not to make any irrational moves.
The middle-aged man came forward and looked at Leon. He looked furious, his face was making shapes that could blemish his nobility, but he didn't care or his anger made him not care.
He was obviously Lord Kesler, a man filled with anger, arrogance, and pride. Leon definitely could relate with this man to someone he knew, he had seen several people like him in the sect.
"Where is the item you stole?" Kesler asked, his voice contained a hint of command. "I can spare your life if you tell me obediently."
He didn't ask Leon about him or his background. It was obvious that he was informed about Leon and his unimportant background. And even if Leon had some background, he didn't care. No one would dare to cause trouble in the capital city. Here, he was the god–only inferior to his older brother, King himself.
"Ha Ha Ha Ha! That the biggest joke I have heard," Marcus said while laughing from the next cell. "When did royal family become so humble? don't you people kill someone's entire family just to hide humiliation and satisfy your self-esteem. Would you really swallow humiliation and forgive this man?"
"Oh! Its Lord Marcus of Grey's," Kesler glanced at other cell and hinted two guards with hands. "Consider this a welcoming gift from me."
Those guards immediately went to Marcus cell and started beating him, who was already seriously wounded from the beatings of another guard before.
*AAAHH!*
Ha! Ha! Ha!
*AAAHH!*
"I will not... let you.. bastards go... even... if I am dead..." Marcus said with a slow and fading voice.
Leon could hear both scream and desperate laugh from Marcus before he lost his consciousness. His face contained anger, though Marcus was not his friend nor did he knew much about him, he knew, this man had some tragic story to hate royal family to this extent.
And furthermore, he was already wounded and nearly verge of death. But these people still beat him without caring for killing him.
'For what? just because of few words? Is this how royal family rules? No! This has to be stopped.'
Leon had made a resolution in his mind.
'I will destroy this royal family. Besides, I have already made enemies with the sect so I have to start somewhere. Sect already cleared its intention that they favor the Third elder over my this outer–no-one–disciple. I really don't mind destroying their foundations. One can call this a revenge, a payback or – A retaliation.'
