I hate that you are not mine

The ride home was silent; Kim was upset.

"What's the matter, Kim? Today is meant to be filled with celebration and happiness and yet you seem upset."

"What's going on between you and the Doctor?"

"I beg your pardon?"

"Don't play coy with me, I noticed the way he looked at you, he was constantly finding his way to be by your side the entire night and you encouraged it."

"I was simply being polite, what are you accusing me of?"

"Nothing, but I find it very disrespectful that you seemed to encourage the Doctor's advances."

"Advances? Your jealousy insults me."

"Well, am I wrong? Is the doctor not romantically interested in you?"

Delilah was silent.

"I thought so, do you desire him, Lilah?"

"I will not be subjected to such interrogations; I had no idea he was going to be at this ceremony. You are ruining what should be a perfectly happy night. Listen to me, said Delilah as she touched his thigh. I love you, Kim, isn't that enough for you."

Kim took in a deep breath; "I am sorry Lilah, it's just the way he looked at you. It drives me crazy knowing other men desire you the way I do. And the thought of losing you scares me."

"You have nothing to worry about, the doctor was simply being nice asking about my health. It's ok my love, I'll make you feel better once we get home. Tonight is all about you and your brilliant achievements, let's not ruin it."

Once they arrived home, they opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate some more then made love.

***A week later...***

It was Tuesday afternoon, and the sun blistering hot. Summer in New Orleans was an amazing time, the air was filled with adventure and music.

Morian was in his office at the hospital finishing up paperwork for his patients and preparing to take on new interns from the university. His hand began to shake uncontrollably.

"Useless flesh, whispered Morian to himself as he attempted to calm his nerves and agitation. Being housed by a human body was proving rather difficult. He was using his magic to keep this flesh fresh but it was proving rather difficult. Being death and living in the body of a now deceased man was something he didn't imagine he would ever succumb to but there was nothing he wouldn't do for Mortala. He would endure being confined to the limitations of the flesh and being human until he finally won her heart.

Suddenly Grim appeared

"Hard at work, eh?" asked Grim as he sat on a chair opposite Morian.

"Didn't I warn you about showing up here unannounced? When I left the Nether realm, I was sure I saddled you with more than enough responsibilities to occupy you."

"Do not be upset my lord, I simply wished to check in with you."

"Go on, what news do you bring?"

"The residents of the Nether realm are wondering where their master is. You've been on earth for weeks now, how long do you intend to continue with this escapade?''

"Do they question my authority?"

"No, they wouldn't dare, not at all my lord. They just think it's absurd how you abandon everything for this one soul. It's no secret that you desire this woman, A woman whose heart and soul are bound to another."

"How dare you?" asked Morian as he stopped writing and looked at Grim. His forehead was riddled with a frown.

"Forgive me, Mori, you've spent so long pining after her. You are Death, a force of nature, not some lovesick fool."

Morian's eyes bulged from their sockets, his eyes lit up with rage, and his brows wrinkled in annoyance. "Grim, watch your tongue; I am still your master."

"Exactly, you are my master which is why I feel obligated to caution you against this fool's errand. Even if you do succeed in winning her heart, what will you do when she dies? I asked you this last time and you didn't answer because you know the truth. She will remember her soulmate and wish to reunite with Ciaran, as she has always done every time she died. How would you explain that you've tortured and imprisoned him for centuries, that you are the reason why she has been apart from her soulmate? She will hate you."

Morian was upset, with his arms crossed, he replied, "make no mistake Grim, I will have Mortala for my queen and she will rule at my side as queen of the Nether realm. Now leave me before I lose my temper with you." he moved the papers on his desk.

"You intend to make her queen? She has bewitched you and taken your senses, my lord. You forget there are powers far greater than you that control the universe. The powers that be will never let you pluck a soul from existence and make her your queen."

"Oh, we shall see," said Mori as he smiled, "Now leave and don't show up here unless it's truly important." Grim got up and bowed then disappeared.
