Chapter 76: The Promise

~Third POV~

At the time Tatsumi managed to return back to the previous locations around the Goldy Pond location as he heard commotions all around the area that piqued his interest.

"Whoa! Is it true the adult with a sword beat the demon!"

"Yeah sister the mama with white hair beat the monsters!"

"Wearry? Did you see the one with red brought back the whole Monster!"

"No way! But then I saw a brother with pink skin save us!"

Tatsumi hearing this smile at the scene seeing the young kids being safe but then surprise as he sees Ruby coming towards him, "Tatsumi!! Where have you been! Echidna and Law already began interrogating the demons!"

Hearing this Tatsumi smiles at this as he scratches the back of his head as he responded, "Yeah sorry it took some time to find you guys. But anyway have you learned a lot of what we're going into here?"

Ruby then expresses a serious look as she began to explain what she knows, "A few things that made sense but mostly we got the gist of the general idea of how this world works."

Tatsumi hearing this listens as Ruby leads Tatsumi back to where the others went as she spoke in a sad tone, "Yeah… apparently 1000 years ago, He made the deal with Julius Ratri that became known as the Promise; the demons and humans would be partitioned between two worlds, unable to access one another. The human world would be free of demon predation, and in exchange, the demons would be allowed to farm the humans stranded on their world."

Hearing this Tatsumi looked very surprised to hear the news about the promise as well as how the demons want to harvest the humans in the demon world like cattle.

But that was when Tatsumi caught on the words when Ruby said to him in a confused tone, "Him? Who exactly is Him and the Ratri clan? Care to explain that to me, Ruby?"

Ruby nodded at this as she began to explain what she knew from the brief conversation she learned with Leuvis, "Yeah basically the Him that I mentioned earlier seems to be the God of this world. Leuvis explained it like this His origins are unclear, but he is considered deity-like by the demons and was the one capable of making Promises on their behalf."

Listening to the words coming from Ruby's mouth he couldn't help but shiver a bit in fear as he was reminded of the promise that someone was able to separate worlds.

Tatsumi couldn't begin to imagine what kind of power that would need to be possible but then shakes his head clearing his head.

Returning to his senses Tatsumi quickly began to ask in confusion to Ruby, "Wait a minute Leuvis? The demon you got your info from?"

Ruby nodded her head as she continues to speak with the same tone, "Yup. He seems to be friendly once I beat him and he's like REALLY old too which was a nice bonus. But anyway, now onto the Ratri clan apparently, they were the ones responsible to create the promise."

Listening intently to Ruby she then expressed a disgusted expression as she speaks out of her mouth, "Listening to him the story began were that the original betrayed his allies then met the God here to make the promise except for the Ratri family line to keep the order."

Tatsumi just glares at the idea as their mission just got more complicated more than ever listening to the information provided.

But that was when Tatsumi then asked the reason they took them as captives, "Wait a second here… why did you capture them? Couldn't Echidna just look up the answers?"

Ruby listening to this just shows an awkward expression as she began to talk about the issue with a weird tone, "Uh… yeah about that… it seems that Him has a way to interrupt Echidna gospel at best she can get bits and pieces of this world history."

Tatsumi hearing this could only gulp at the situation they were in, "Gulp… oh… that is like really bad. I guess the good old fashion way of searching from nothing it is."

Ruby could only giggle awkwardly at the response as she also came to the same conclusion as well.

Next Tatsumi began to speak asking about what happened to the demons, "Ok so what exactly happened to the demons anyway? I assume that you three finished interrogating them."

Ruby remains silent for a bit as she replies an answer in a conflicted tone, "We… we had to end them once they gave us the info. Law did them in and even though they eat kids I can't help but feel it wasn't fair."

Tatsumi remains silent as they both traveled to where Ruby was leading them till, he finally spoke, "… Maybe so but then again, the world itself is unfair Ruby. It's just best to adapt and learn from what you can but never let yourself be something you're not. Just be Ruby Rose the best you can be and believe what you think is right."

Listening to Tatsumi Ruby remained silent but a small smiled form on her face for the kids to see as they travel to their destination…

Then they finally arrive at a windmill as Tatsumi looked on with a curious look but they both enter inside the building as Tatsumi was met with Echidna with Beatrice talking to an adult man with both his arms.

Tatsumi was surprised seeing an adult man here as he thought only kids were the ones being cattle but not adults.

Echidna glances over to the two as she introduces her to their new ally to help, "Ah! Ruby! Tatsumi! I'm glad that you have arrived on time let introduce you to our new ally here mister Lucas."

The adult Lucas looked very shyly at the two but with slight surprise as he began to give out an open father aura, "Oh? Miss Echidna I didn't expect these two to be kids and you two really took out the demons? You have my grateful happiness for killing them and capture them."

Tatsumi seeing this returned the kindly manner to Lucas as he smiles at him, "Oh… The name Tatsumi, Lucas a pleasure to meet you in person and I guess you already know about Ruby here."

Lucas nodded at this as he began to thank Ruby as well before returning to the topic at hand with Echidna, "Anyway I still have to thank you people for saving us and taking care of the demons. You have my thanks for saving them and me from this nightmare. I might not help with much, but I wish to help in any way I can."

Echidna with Beatrice next to her began to speak in a soft tone, "Yes, Lucas here has been really helpful especially about this William Minerva person that created this town."

Lucas nods at this as he also expresses a happy look as the other kids armed with guns look at his arm in awe, "Yeah and that doctor of yours is a miracle worker to give me an arm again with Echidna help. I can at least be more useful being two arms again."

Noticing that Law isn't around Tatsumi asked Echidna with a confused tone, "Wait then where is Law anyway I didn't see him around do you know what happened?"

Beatrice then spoke out as she says to the group in her childish voice, "Hmph! Law is busy taking care of the injured in the middle of town at the moment I suppose. He seems very busy as he left us in charge in dealing with this mystery were in, I suppose."

Ruby and Tatsumi listening to this both nodded their heads in agreement as Echidna and Lucas both began to explain to the both of them of the information they gathered and safely concluded…

Meanwhile at the center of town Goldy Pond fountain Law was in charge of taking care of the kids in the area with others armed acting as bodyguard.

Law found them acting as body guards as amusing as he was busy bandaging up another kid from a broken bone, "And… there that arm of yours should take about a few weeks to heal but just take extra care of taking care of yourself ok?"

The kid that her arm broken cried a bit but put up a brave smile as she responds to Law, "Thank you very much Doctor Law sir! I…. promise to take care of myself."

Law nodded his head at this as he goes to examine another kid that was in need of bandaging along with the others.

Just as Law was busy three other people have entered the Goldy Pond with clear surprise shown.

The three in question were Yugo another survivor and along with Emma and Ray glancing at the scene with clear surprise in their eyes.

Emma speaking in a surprised tone with her eyes wide responds to the scene before them, "See Ray and Mister! I told you that this place is safe just like from Minerva map from the pen says it was!"

Ray being the cautious one here noticed something really off as he points out Law, "Emma I know that your happy seeing an actual place for humans but with that adult there something is off?"

Yugo being the most surprised as his plans to get Emma captured by the poachers of demons failed as one didn't show up was forced along but was surprised to see an adult man here.

Emma being the optimistic of their group hurried along to ask Law in a hopeful tone, "Ray I'm going ahead to make contact to see what is going on alright?"

Before Ray could argue Emma already went on ahead to meet with Law as Ray was cursing under his breath with Yugo also tagging along.
