When one thinks of a challenge most don't picture reading a book to be one, well I do. It's been a week since Dembe and I made items from DnD. Since then I have been focused on two things, one my business and meeting with some of Luthor's old contacts that decided to part with Lex corp after his death, and two, trying to finish reading the book I stole from Luthor at the start of this whole thing.

It was weird, each time I tried to read it I felt like I was back on the island, my instincts have never been sharper, and even when I dumb down my reflexes to spar with Dembe I am coming up with attack strategies and moves I have never even used before much less heard of.

At this point, I was fed up with the damn book I couldn't deny it was helping me just from the small part I could read but, it was also mentally and physically draining.

I once almost completed it and needed to rest for the rest of the day, I'm a vampire and a book defeated me.

Gripping the book tightly my easy-going expression turned calm and cold, my eyes narrowed and I exhaled the breath I was holding.

Tonight, I best the accursed book.

I gently opened the cover and flipped to the first page, instantly my mind was whisked away.

-Inside the book-

I looked around and saw I was dead center on a battlefield, with what seemed to be my allies who were getting brutally slaughtered by our enemy.

Clutching my sword I began to fight back ruthlessly, *shickkk* my sword plunged into the neck of one of my enemies his blood sprayed all over my armor.

*shickk*

"GAH!"

"ARGH!"

"*SHICkk*

"AHHHH!"

The screams of pain and chimes of death filtered through my ears, I was in a state of zen as I wiped away all who opposed me, my sword dancing in between my foes slicing any who dared to come at me.

I could hear the faint voice of my General ordering for us to retreat, I tried to follow but my body wouldn't listen.

Suddenly it was like I was floating above the battlefield, I watched as everyone left but me and my enemies.

Just as suddenly as my view changed to above I was thrust back into the first-person perspective, it was as if I was shown how I stood no chance, I was shown how helpless I was.

I began to battle again, arrows pierced my skin, swords opened gashes, and spears thrust into my body but I didn't stop.

My enemies began to back away from me in fear, a circle was formed.

I looked ahead and saw the enemy general riding forward on his horse his eyes seemed to glow with flames and battle.

I sprang forward, my injuries didn't seem to hamper my movements, it was more of a mental pain.

Jumping I tackled the General from his horse, landing on the ground I tried to slice his throat when he touched my stomach and gave me a light push.

*shoooom* I flew backward landing on the ground

I was grabbed from behind and forced to be ok my knees, the general strode forwards his blade resting on his shoulder.

He looked at me with indifference as he raised the blade. I knew I could back out now and try again later, I knew it would just be another failure but, something nagged at my mind, I must try something I have never tried before.

Mustering up my resolved I stared into the blazing eyes of the general, conviction filled my very soul and mind.

The general seemed to pause for a second, I smiled I was right.

The next second the blade cleaved downward, suddenly I was looking at a headless body.

Oh, that was mine.

In an underground research facility news of Lex Luthor's death was just discovered, they were so disconnected from the world they had no idea.

One scientist stood frozen in place, not from sadness nor shock, but from trying to hide his happiness.

He quickly began to type away at his computer, clicking the one final button he watched as the facility went into lockdown.

"What are you doing?!"

"Hey!"

"Stop!"

"Luthor is dead who will pay us? I'm not stating here let me out!"

He didn't listen, opening his drawer he pulled out a weapon that looked like a gun but more sleek and futuristic.

"W-w-what are you do-oing?"

*bang!*

*bang!*

*bang!*

*bang!*

*bang!*

As he killed the rest of his colleagues a large smile bloomed on his craze-filled face.

"Ahhahahahahha!"

"HAAHAHAHAHAHA!"

"It's mine, all mine," he said his eyes sparkling with madness as he celebrated Lex Luthor's death

He truly owed someone a favor out there.

-Lucas pov -

I opened my eyes calmly, unlike the other times I was perfectly fine, my breath was smooth and there was hardly any mental strain.

It was like I came out with a new mindset, and better instincts.

The best part of everything so far was the growth I received in my magical power, it was truly a wonderful feeling almost as good as the first time I drank blood.

I didn't feel physically stronger, no I felt as if I could beat the demon head in pure skill. Stretching my limbs I stood up and walked downstairs. I could definitely go for a celebratory glass of blood.

While walking I could instantly tell something was different in my gait, my steps barely made any sound, and my body was in a state of tension like I could fight at any moment.

I smiled lightly to myself, I really did it. Who knew the method was to accept defeat? To accept death.

As Lucas came downstairs I immediately could tell something happened, usually, he would walk into any room and show grace and manners almost commanding respect. This time he walked as if he knew he had that respect, his movements were sharper and more precise, and the ambiance in the room changed it felt like I was in the presence of an aristocrat but a warrior at the same time.

Lucas did it, I summarized it easily enough.

He did it and became even more dangerous.

"Congratulations sir," I said with a small genuine smile

Lucas turned to me a grinned, "thanks, I can finally put my mind at ease beating that damned book,"

I chuckled, sometimes Lucas can be playful and humorous but, other times deadly and downright terrifying to most.

Looking down at the ring he got for me I smiled, despite his behavior sometimes he is a good boss and friend to have.
