However, the door opened. Alanna was surprised. But soon she discovered the reason for that: someone wanted to get in. She quickly moved out of the way and a plump lady entered the pantry. Alanna took advantage of the open door and left the room.

She recognized the crest on the rug that hung from the ceiling. That was Aillard's castle. She heard footsteps then. She knew no one could see her, but still, she moved close to a pillar, staying out of the way.

Two guards rounded the corner.

"I can't wait for the festivities to begin." The lowest of them spoke.

"Me too! There will definitely be plenty of wine!"

They laughed.

Alanna didn't recognize them. She knew all the guards who had access to those corridors and those two weren't part of that select group. Were they talking about celebrating her marriage to Aillard?

"Mormae deserves it. He is good. He was bestowed with a big boy, from what I heard from the midwife."
