Chapter Sixteen_Burnt

Detective Kesley had just finished submitting some reports to Deputy Chief Kant, at the Fourth Bay Police Station, and was driving home.

As he drove home, his mind wandered, and he began to relive the day's events in his head.

He remembered Karen.

Picking up his cell-phone, he dialed her number.

+++++++++++

She answered on the fourth ring.

A deep male voice talked back to her, but she couldn't fathom who it was.

Certainly not a member of the Organization, because the red light wasn't blinking on her phone.

So who was it?

"Sorry, who's this please?" She asked, her eyebrows furrowed.

There was a brief silence, then the person answered:

"My name's Herbert. The guy that dropped you off at work earlier today..., surely you remember."

"Yeah, I do...." She grunted, not sounding eager at all.

"I'm sorry I didn't introduce myself properly to you. I guess I'm really lucky to have gotten your number." Detective Kesley enthused.
